Jimmy Smith done for the season

377 posts in this topic

His contract would have to be on par with Webb which is scary cap wise. so much money going to waste potentially with pitta surely rice, webb not playing near up to par with what he is paid... and i'm sorry to say Flacco. I love flacco but number 1 QB in the league money was a stretch.. When Webb got his contract he was a top 5 CB now we have Jimmy who is a top 5 CB. a big contract with Jimmy and this injury lingers we are in a really bad spot.

Webb, Flacco, Pitta, Ngata, Suggs, and worst of all RICE very crippling contracts.

Here's what I predict.

Even with our busted up secondary, we're playing such a soft schedule right now, we'll still probably win the majority of our games. We might even squeak into the playoffs. Then we'll get annihilated by whatever decent team we play, since our offense is complete trash against good defenses/on the road, and our secondary couldn't cover high school WRs. We'll do just well enough to draft in the bottom half again, while having 0 chance at a playoff run.

Soft schedule? The Saints (in the dome), Chargers, Dolphins, Texans, and Browns will all give the Ravens problems. Not going to say they'll lose each one of those games but three teams with a winning record and a team with an even record in their home isn't a soft schedule.

Flacco only makes 14 millón, cheap actually. Rice contract not big deal THIS year. Webb restructured. Contracts arent really that bad.

You must not be watching the same season I have because torrey looks horrible. Ravens would be stupid to give him #1 or #2 WR type money.

He did have a slow start but the past couple of games he is improving. Torrey is a solid number #2. He is a great complement to Steve Smith. Steve does the dirty work torrey is the Speed receiver, PA -deep Ball- Receiver.. We will keep Torrey and Jimmy

Losing Jimmy Smith is a major blow to this Defense. Smith is probably the player we could least afford to lose on that side of the ball. Sure it's a great opportunity for Gorrer and Jacobs but even if they play above their heads they are not going to come in and play at the same level Jimmy Smith was playing at. The fact that Lardarius Webb looks a shadow of the player he once was doesn't help matters either.

Is there any chance that Terrence Brooks could be converted to a corner for the rest of the year?

I really haven't seen much of Brooks(although I did notice him blow a coverage the other night against Pittsburgh) but the scouting reports I read on him said he had good speed and coverage skills. Perhaps it's an option we could look at.

Gah, this sucks.

we are done,,it sad cause our coaches lack the intellect to compensate areas of weakness and areas of strength,,,

This really seems like 2 years ago when Webb went down and Ray in the same game. And webb at the time seemed like a star in the making. Now he's nowhere near what he was after injuries.

season won't be over if the offense does not turn the ball over and the defense causes turnovers pees needs to crank up the heat and make opposing qb's get rid of the ball quickly. or the alternative play zone rush four and get picked apart there is alot of money upfront they need to earn it and put constant pressure on the offense'

Ahhhh how good training camp seemed. Chykie brown proving. Asa jackson poised to make and impact. Webb returning to form and Jimmy continuing on path to super-stardom.

Appears to be position of strength even with unknown entities.

I really don't think the season is over but losing Jimmy is a big deal. The Patriots almost won a Super Bowl with a worse CB corps. Guys just have to step up and I'm not confident they can do that to win a Super Bowl. I think we can definitely make the playoffs. I just don't see us winning it all. We'll see though. Never give up until it's over. Jacobs and Gorrer could impress. It's possible Webb could step up and return close to form. Jackson could also step up when he returns.

I do think we can make the playoffs. I'm just not sure we can win it all.

My question is, do you pay Jimmy the big contract...both Smiths (Torrey) actually. I love Jimmy's talent but he can't stay healthy like Torrey can't run a varied route tree. Fan favs, no doubt but are you comfortable investing a 4-5 yr contract in him?

I'm sorry but this us complete bs and you don't know what you're talking about. This is his first major injury. Every player gets hurt. Get real.

not at all one bad loss at the end of 4 of 5 on the road if not for turnovers and a couple big plays this team is 7-2 i believe what i posted will happen less turnovers by the offense and the defense will create more.

Create more turnovers? You must only be talking about fumbles. I don't see many Int's for this teams. Our safety's suck so do our CBs

I seen alot of the ravens beat reporters say chykie brown had a really really bad camp. Constantly was giving up deep balls and big plays. I am so thankful he is gone.. I hope to god they dont bring him back.

All offseason I was crying about I cant believe they went into the season with a bunch of injury prone CB's with no depth and that was one of if not the biggest need going in.. It's a passing league.. My worst fears have been realized.

This thread makes me sad.
I mean I was sad already for Jimmy, but reading the stuff here.

Good grief.

Could you really go into a team meeting look each player in the eye and say " we are done "  " we loose out the rest of the season "  " just tank the rest of the season "

Man I would loose complete and total respect for the Ravens is such words are spoken.  I would seriously consider giving up on being a Ravens fan is they lay down the rest of the season.  I would go be a Bills fan.  At least they have heart and they try.
I fully expect the few remaining Ravens to give their all the remainder of this season.
Dont get me wrong.  It stings like a son of a gun, but its not over.  Not even a little bit.

Thank God the players dont come on here and read this dribble.

If you're talking about the 2011 season where we lost to the Pats in the conference final, their secondary wasn't this bad. We're horrific. We have no consistent play from any of our DBs. We can't tackle or cover.

need to pressure opposing q.b. into making bad decisions not sitting in the pocket picking us apart the strength of the ravens is the d-line and linebackers turn them loose and hope the 25 safety's can keep everything in front of them and make tackles.

Our pass rush been playing lights out.... Our cbs got to tighten up their coverage, so we can have some time to get to the qb

The only possible silver lining i can imagine is that this will light a gigantic fire under the offenses ***.  There is nothing good that comes from not having Jimmy, he's my favorite part of the secondary and has been since we drafted him.  If our defense can just hold on long enough to let the offense win games, that's the only positive outcome i see...
