Afraid to pull the trigger?

15 posts in this topic

It always seems like we are a step or two behind from doing what needs to be done.  Cam was the prime example, we got rid of him and made it to a Super Bowl the same season.

We lived with McKinnie and Oher until finally deciding to replace them with better players.

This season, we waited until a complete disaster to finally get rid of our cornerbacks.  It feels like these moves should have come earlier but we wait until the last possible moment to make a move.  Now we are stuck with fishing from other teams practice squads and what is left on this completely dry free agent market.

We had enough cap space to pull off a trade and a future pick for a corner seems perfectly plausible in my opinion.  I hate how we wait so long to finally pull the trigger on moves that should've been made a long time ago.

That's the problem... its plausible for the RAVENS to make that trade, but there's no indication its plausible for another team to want to make that trade.

Every team in the league sees the same thing the Ravens do... depth/talent at corner is important. Unless we were willing to part with something who is more than depth on our team (not realistic)... what incentive does another team have to make that trade?

I will say this... those kinds of trades (dealing high draft picks for basically what amounts to average corners) is the type of move that teams with a small window to win a SB do. That's a move I'd expect somebody like SF, Denver, NE, etc. to make. The Ravens don't fall into that class, and therefore it really doesn't benefit them to trade a quality draft pick for a even a decent corner, especially when there's no guarantee that corner is with this team long term.

I think too many Ravens fans are treating every season like its the last season, which of course is not the case.

We would have lost a lot of quality ( quality not necessarily great, but that too ) players by being too quick to pull said trigger.

Trade. Such an easy word to say, but a very difficult feat to pull off. Many fans do not seem to understand that.

A lot of important details go into making moves earlier than expected. If we replace Oher and Big Mac who would have replaced them at the time. Cam was a long time friend of Harbaugh, and he was gonna get every chance to succeed, that was common knowledge. The corners that were cut were backups, meaning that our starters are out too often. Webb was out for a while and hasn't return to form, Asa Jackson is currently out for a while, and now Jimmy Smith out for the year. so we were using our 4th and 5th corners to start. My main bone to pick with the FO is that it feels like they are almost angry they can't draft a good WR, So they avoid them more. I always hear Ozzie at the end of the draft interview when asked about drafting a receiver always says he feels good about what we have, and how he believes in our current receivers. Last year they were so many talented WRs who came out early, but we drafted a WR at the very end of the draft. It is very telling that our current receiving core consists of undrafted free agents, a free agent in Steve Smith who is 35 years old, and only one drafted player at that position in Torrey Smith who is a one trick pony whos one trick isn't as good as first perceived. The Ravens have utterly failed at drafting Wrs, and more importantly they are starting to miss on a lot of draft picks in general since 2010. Cody, Sergio Kindle, Jah Reid, Tandon Doss, Ed Dickson, Christian Thompson just to name a few. We need to reconsider what type of players we want in the draft.

aside from, Mckinnie coming into camp out of shape. he is a dam good left tackle.

He OWNED James Harrision every time we played the steelers. He pan caked him every single time we played them.

I dont care what you say, he was light years ahead of Monroe , who im still not sold on. But he is better than Hurst.

What corners were on the trade block? Name me a corner that is great and on a rebuilding team/sub 500 team?

Baseball and Hockey have a lot of trades, the NFL never has.

I think that was year when Harrison was playing with a injuried back or  some sort.  It was good that Mckinnie owned him but Harrison wasn't healthy for the majority of that season.

Yeah his back was messed up because McKinnie folded him over backwards in the first game of the season when we annihilated then Steelers

Three things I hope would've happened this year.

1st: That the Pittsburgh game was the week before the trade deadline.

2nd: That we would've sign Brandon Flowers when he was a free agent.

3rd: Signed Ed Reed.... Just to help our young safeties... Stewart doesn't deserve to be a Raven.
