11/4/14 Roster Moves (merged)

So here's two questions:

1. Are we moving in a different direction with these two, as far as man/zone coverage?

2. What do they see if Gorrer that they didn't see in Franks?

Was there anything to be seen in franks? Lol

I don't have problem with Chykie his coverage was lacking in training camp, preseason and now the regular season as well. He's not improving with his awareness at all.

But I'm still trying to understand the logic in having 5 or 6 safeties even know that W.Hill is back from suspension.

Because Elam is basically playing the slot.. Terrence brooks is more or less a backup CB now..

No other option but to have that many safeties

Not really, but what's to be seen in Gorrer? That's why I'm sorta confused by this move. It feels like it's a lateral move, not forward or backward. They both suck as far as I can see.

The only differece I can see is that Gorrer was pretty decent in man coverage when he was here, and Franks is more of a zone guy, I think. That's all I can see here

Not going to happen. It seems quite unreasonable to have two fairly new cornerbacks start in a game. I know Gorrer been a Ravens before but it's been about 3 years since he has been on our team.

Quoted for wrong...

Taking a shot on some guys.  It really can't get much worse, so we might as well see if someone can stick.

Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider  ·  15m 15 minutes ago

Ravens cutting cornerback Chykie Brown, according to a source

Never want to see someone lose their job but it's a business and Chykie doesn't belong on sn NFL roster, Frank Walker 2.0

Like the move being made now. A game to play so we can see how they play then the bye to assess them and get them semi up to speed. Honestly, the way our guys were playing, what did we really have to lose anyway. I did like Gorrer when he was here too.

this may or may not result in a spike in production but I'm really happy the FO actually wants changes now. I like that we don't allow a lot of points other than last game, but is Dean Pees safe ?

Have hill back there and we run more man coverages..

Not sure how Jacobs will be used but prolly have Elam in slot some again and webb playing outside?

I just hope jimmy is back for NO

Asa could come back in week 14 at the earliest. Getting Danny Gorrer back reminds me of times when we actually had CB depth. Good Times.

Don't know for certain and could be wrong but with the signing of Gorrer it seems the FO is also sick of Pees soft zone. Gorrer is better at man coverage, though I agree it appears to be a more lateral move, I thought he had his shining moments when he was here and Franks has only had those bad bad moments.

Pees plays plenty of man, and the move to cut Chykie wasn't surprising, and considering that Gorrer hasn't really played poorly this season, he's an upgrade over Franks in all likelihood, considering he got worked in all his games here

Also think some fans may be overreacting to these moves anyway. It does show that at least the FO/coaching staff is aware of Chykie and Franks struggles, but keep in mind that those same guys (Franks in particular) were competing with guys like Jacobs for a corner spot in training camp/preseason, and Brown won that job. That tells me something alone.

As fans have begun to realize, there almost certainly isn't going to be a player that the Ravens sign, promote, etc. in 2014 that is going to immediately shift this secondary into something much better. We MIGHT be able to find better players, but its not like Gorrer or Jacobs are going to be Jimmy Smith or even Webb-level players most likely.

Its going to take a lot more than just a couple of FA/PS signings to make this secondary a lot better. As Harbaugh already referenced, at least one or preferably two of these safeties (where I think the bigger weakness is) is going to have to start playing much better and much more consistent. That includes fan-favorite (including myself) Will Hill, who was pretty awful against Pittsburgh.

all we can hope is that Danny Gorrer performs SOLID when he jumps into getting a lot of game snaps.... He doesn't have much game experience and even at 28 could break out with real game time reps. i guess we shall see..

Gorrer has seen a lot of snaps this season with Detroit in Teryl Austin's defense. He is probably more ready to contribute right away than any other CB out there

If these corners can just play decent press coverage then we're in good shape. Our defensive front is elite, but it's hard to get sacks when our corners, other than Jimmy, are playing off the wide outs... Seriously??? Why do we play off man coverage on short downs only to get beat for the first by a hitch???
