Just so sick of the inconsistency of ref calls - not blaming them for the loss - there's much more material than just refs.  Suggs, what were you thinking?  Jones, thank you for that beautiful return, 108 yards!  Corey Smith - great catch!  Our secondary, are we that weak that we appear to be playing a prevent defense:  Steeler receivers open all over the place!  Flacco, you didn't see that defender (like last week)?  We are beating ourselves!  Seven games to go, can we win seven, sure we can!  Just do it Ravens!

I can only speculate but I think it goes back to last week. Refs seem very reluctant to blow the whistle for forward progress being stopped. We lost to the Bengals because of it. Blount got extra yards a few times earlier in the game when it seemed he was stopped. Heck, our offense even did it on that one short yardage play. He shouldn't have done it but it is frustrating watching a RB have his forward progress clearly stopped yet the play continues and he falls forward for 3 or 4 more yards.

He missed a couple of open looks, including one where Steve Smith was pretty much going for six, but overall I agree he wasn't the big issue.

Was at the game and don't remember seeing this. Can you pin point a time frame?

I'am really just wondering if we are going to address the fact that we are going into games with 3 CB's anytime soon ...

could even say brent urban looked pretty good before his injury

Urban looks like one heck of a player. I was a bit iffy on him when we took him but I got a good look at him when I went to training camp and he has so much potential. We were lining him up in quite a few places and I think he is a guy who will factor into a lot of what we do in future years. Pity he got injured and he needs to prove he can stay healthy but that potential is there.

You saw what happened on 3 and 1 right? That is what happens when you only run.

All those years we had that amazing defense and were ground & pound, we won 1 SB. One. In the 14 years since then, only 1 other ground & pound team has won that SB. One. In 14 years.

The Steelers stuck to that ground & pound- it got them into the playoffs, their defense even got them to the SB. They lost to a passing team.

The runs on 3rd and 1 drive me nuts, because it's so obvious they're going straight up the middle.  However, they had only 17 rushing attempts last night, and 3.5 yards per carry, while not great, isn't terrible either.  Now, obviously they fell behind and felt the need to pick up some more yards, but rushing the ball is a good way to slow the pass rush, both by burning it when they get too far up field, and by fatiguing the players.  It shouldn't be run the ball 3 straight times and punt, but it turned into passing it 3 straight times and punt, which isn't better.  What's distressing is against both Indy and Pitt, Kubiak didn't seem to have any adjustments when things weren't going well, and in both games, the rush was abandoned early and the pass to rush ratio became extremely lopsided.

Both the Bucs and Seahawks relied heavily on the run during their Super Bowl runs.  Others certainly had a balance to their games.  The 2009 Saints were 7th in rushing attempts in the regular season, and 5th in rushing attempts per game in the post season (although they favored the pass in the SB).  The 2001 Pats were 8th in the regular season, 5th in average attempts in the post season.  The 2003 Pats were 4th in the post season in rushing attempts per game.  In 2004, they were 5th and 4th in regular and post season attempts.  It's interesting that both the Saints and Patriots generally had less success in the seasons when they were pass-happy.  Shoot, even in the Ravens Super Bowl run, they averaged 34.8 rushes per game, 2nd among all teams in the post season.  They were only 7th in passing at 31.5 per game.  The days are over of winning the Super Bowl with a below average quarterback, but keeping a balanced attack, as well as controlling the clock, are still advantageous.  I think ball control is even more important for this current team, because the pass rushers need to remain fresh since the secondary is currently swiss cheese.

Hopefully you listened in on your own home town radio show 105.7 The Fan, The Bob Haynie Show. His very first line when he hit the air was "Spare me with your complaints about the refs". The Ravens didn't play well enough to win. Period. They got thumped. Just like the Steelers got thumped in week 2. Its the NFL and this is one of the best rivalries in the league.

These games are always a war, always chippy and the refs are always going to assert themselves in games like this.

Were there bad calls. Yeah. There's bad calls every week in every game. It just depends on each individuals perspective as to what calls were bad based on what team you're rooting for.

Bottom line - the best team won last night just like the best team won in week 2

Were just a bad team simple as that. Tired of hearing all these excuses, id be surprised if we make the playoffs. Saints, Chargers, Dolphins and Browns with Josh Gordon are going to be tough.

The team played bad, but its not an excuse to call out the referees for some of those calls. They let the Steelers get away with holding all game, both their pass-blockers and their DBs. They call PI on Webb when the WR pushes off, and then miss the OPI again after Brown pushes Webb down. They call PI on Mosley when there is almost zero contact plus he was playing the ball. They dont call an obvious PI on the Steelers DB in the EZ who is tugging on Torrey's jersey. They dont change the spot on the Roethlisberger QB sneak when it was obvious he was down. They give Dumervil a 15 yard penalty for shoving when the Steelers player is doing the exact same thing. They call Offsides on Dumervil even though it was an obvious false start on the offense. If the Ravens played a perfect game and dont turn the ball over once it would have been a struggle with how the game was called.

The Ravens are not a bad team. They got worked over by a team that was playing better last night, but you cannot tell me the officiating did not influence the outcome of the game.

you forgot two offsides calls on dumervil where Bell moved and deCastro moved a mile first. With That said, the ravens got handled/embarrassed...however you want to put it. If the game would have extended another quarter we still wouldn't have been able to stop roethlisberger and he would have thrown another 2 or 3. I'm not at all confident we win even with more representative officiating.

Steelers definitely outplayed us, no question. I just know there were a lot of penalties that extended their drives.

I know all of this Gene and I agree.  However, I am not blind to the fact that the bleeding we're seeing from week to week needs to be stopped!

@Mili

This is pretty much what Tomlin said…they beat us by 20, we beat them by 20…were even. Its gonna be a dog fight to the finish in this division…there are still a lot of interdivisional games remaining. Odd thing for us is we are done with the Browns and the Ravens and haven't even played the Bengals yet.

I knew that Tomlin wanted that last TD to "even" the score of a 20 point game like the Ravens beat the Steelers in week 2.  Tomlin is from my area so I know how we think.  Lol!  Other than that, the Ravens are done with both the Steelers and Bengals with 2 losses to the Bengals and a split with the Steelers.  We're already 1 up on the Browns who play the Bengals Thursday night.  And I believe that your Steelers still have to face the Bengals?  It is far from over for the Ravens!  I expect them to kick, scratch and claw their way into the playoffs and once they are in the tournament anything can happen!

Sure- but if that BS penalty wasn't thrown in the Bungels game, SSS adds 80 more yards to his reception yards.

flag was thrown and the Cinci games over, but just saying......

I'm just saying they need to adapt and get others more involved and not rely so heavily on Steve Sr. If they can't develop/adjust then the season could become painful.

I like how the Steelers dig James Harrison out of retirement and our Oline just immediately plays scared of him like its 2008-2010 all over again and not like he's 37.  The fact that the left side couldn't pick up simple stunts and loops and play with the same intensity as a 37 year old in a rivalry game is truly pathetic.

Well, this is a what have you done for me lately league and this is definitely not that 2012 Ravens team brah!  This team still has to prove themselves!

Blind with rage. The D plays into their palms and our Secondary played high school level.  We got a TD, FG and a Jones highlight.  That is it!   This hurts and with the Cincy loss it now sucks.   However, I can get by this by tonight and aim for the Titans.  We got to go 6-4 and capture 4 of 7 next.   Thats minimal,.

Dude, Bengals are done and we only have the Browns as the last game.  Hoping for saving gracefor us  between those 3.  Cincy plays Pitts in the second half of the season.  Who do you want??

He may be 37 but Ray was up there too.  Manning and Brady are old too.

WOW! Awful game, I really wasn't expecting that. Man my prediction was so close but so off. I predicted Jacksonville would upset Cincinnati, didn't happen cause Jacksonville's defense turned stupid in the end. And this loss....

Ok, where do I start, O-line played bad....Really BAD....Made James Harrison look like Lawrence Taylor. Corners played absolutely awful! Started out well, faded in the end. Jimmy Smith's value just rose to unbelievable level's, I'm pretty sure when he becomes a free agent, he'll become the highest paid Corner, seriously, All-Pro, Pro bowler, Ozzie truly found a gem in him. I hope he still makes the pro bowl even though he might miss a few games.

Thank God this team get's a bye week, Baltimore needs him back by the time they go to New Orleans. BADLY! That game could be a blowout if he's not back.

One HUGE problem is the lack of a No.3 WR, Brown and Aiken didn't play well, I would be surprised if Campanaro doesn't get the nod to start at the 3.

I don't care about Taliafero's fumble, if it wasn't for him the Game against Cleveland would've been a fat L, not only that but he also came up against, Cincinnati when we needed a boost the most.

Also, I know Flacco doesn't like taking the sack, but when he threw it while getting hit I knew that was a pick.

Ok, Oline and CB's was the reason for the loss. Eugene Monroe and Kelechi Osemele struggled but it's not shocking, they're pretty rusty, I loved Osemele's hit on that defender though >:) it was totally Awesome!

I know everyone knows we are in last place, but does anyone realize we are currently 2-3 in the division and can do no better than 3-3 or no worse than 2-4 in the division? The Bengals have only played two divisional games and they were against us. The Steelers played four divisional games and split them and the Browns played three and lost two. That means the Steelers have two more divisional  games, the Browns have 3 more divisional games and the Bengals have 4 more divisional games. Pretty remarkable, if you ask me. It's very possible the Bengals could lose this game against the Browns on Thursday, which would drop them below Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

Fortunately, we still have a heartbeat because of the fact that Cincinnati has a lot of divisional football ahead of itself and could lose those games, whereas those games are behind us. I'm not sure we will win this division now, but I do think a wild card is certainly in the cards. The biggest issue is that we're struggling right now, so it doesn't lend confidence to the team going forward. These next three weeks are big, because we will either pull together and rise or we'll fall. That's how I see it. This reminds me of how things fell apart after the loss to the Texans in 2012. Hopefully, we learn and grow from this game.

We did that with Dallas Clark and look how that turned out.

All with ya.  However, Cincy has won 9 of 10 at home against the Browns. So, that is a sure bet. Give Pitts the win at the Jets. We have to win 10 to get a shot.  This week and all remaining home games (4 0f 7).     We need a wake up call and different game tempo. Joe had got to go on a different mission. Put Jus and Daniels in position to assist when Joe screws up.

Your posts are the kind I don't get. Of course, its okay to complain about refs. Most fans think the calls go against them. Yesterday, some questionable calls didn't go your way. However, on one of our early possessions, Webb broke up a key third down play with a hit that was too early…a missed PI. I saw our guys held at the line a few times. I saw our receivers grabbed a  couple times…and the calls weren't made.  But my real point is this…calls went against your team yesterday and suddenly its a conspiracy? The NFL or the Refs are against the Ravens and for the Steelers? This is where it gets way over the top. Then why, coming into this game were the Steelers the most penalized team in the league and the Ravens one of the least? And thats not just this year. The Steelers were one of the most penalized and fined teams during their super bowl runs. (I know, I know, those were good calls and the Steelers were dirty.) Complaining about refs is one thing…conspiracy theories takes it to a twilight zone level.

Where or how did you read "conspiracy theory"? Where did I say the "NFL and refs are against the Ravens"? What I said was that there was an obvious bias to the squealers in the way the game was called last night. period. I'm sure if you were honest with yourself you would say the same.
