We need Rex Ryan back

328 posts in this topic

Or at least to be able to coach a girl scout to be a 100+ YPG running back ?

Hey, as long as the coaches are doing their job anybody they tie a pair of cleats on is a 100 yard back right? Its all about the scheme!

Do you think any one understands what we are taking about?

What is Rex supposed to do?  Will he make bad players good?

Considering what a trainwreck the Jets are, I would think long and hard before I brought Rex Ryan back to Baltimore.

I didn't want to give this thread life but....We need Rex.

Did you watch the 2007 season when Rex's defense struggled with a bad secondary, or are you one of those fans that came in when we started winning?

Lets be real. I mean this rotating safeties thing is ridiculous. Going into the season with a bunch of injury prone liabilities at cb was a joke though..what did we start the season with 3 or 4 cbs? 7 safeties on roster.. is that real? I mean there is a reason no team in NFL history has rotated safeties like we do and been successful.. if it worked people would have done it. You are seeing it now the guys are not getting into the flow of the game and are getting beat and you are getting a ton of missed assignments. I'm not saying we need rex but the scheme in the secondary blows..

yeah I remembered, corey Ivy, darrick martin and whatnot. But I know he would be able to generate pressure with this front 7 better than Pees.

And we have been talked about as having one of the best front 7... that was not our issue last night....

Typically, teams that are second in the league in scoring defense don't fire defensive coordinators...

1st reply death shot. Thread starter is done!  :banana1:

well, we did allow Ben to extend plays forcing CB's to cover beyond the normal QB drop and throw. You need to push back the middle of the pocket and have the D-ends or blitzers contain. we couldn't do it all game long...and you pretty much have to do it all game long to control ben.

I know the steelers have players too...but if we contained Ben the whole game I think we would have had a better chance to win. He was able to step up into the pocket or get out of the pocket a few too many times.

Ideally we should only allow the QB to drop back 3,5,or 7 steps plant and throw. If a QB can step into the pocket or get out of the pocket we failed as a front 7 in my opinion.

No no it wasn't. Ben was under fire and Bell had duct tape over his fat mouth.

The secondary just gives up first downs in 1.75 seconds

we need Jimmy back, not Rex. If there was a more glaring showing of why we need to lock him up long term, tonight was it. Web looked bad, everyone else looked horrible.

It was one of our issues.

When your Defense gives up less than 60 total yards, and notches 3 sacks, that is not an issue. They played pretty well. Would you like to see more pressure? Sure, but they were getting the ball out too quickly most of the time to develop any.

That was probably the most stout part of our game last night...

did they do it the entire game? you never saw ben run outside of the pocket or step up into the pocket?

Ben was not plant back foot and throw every time when he got up for plays.

yes, the 2ndary had issues....but some of those issues we have had historically against the steelers . they get the ball in the window especially when we play zone and then they have some quick feet receivers that can move well in tight spaces and we look stupid. Every game is different and with the steelers talent our front 7 has to play perfect because dropping a lot of people in coverage is not very effective nor is relying on coverage.

You have to remember too, that there were many plays that the refs handed over to the Steelers when we actually did stop them...  like the play on the 50 where Ben clearly moves the ball after being down in the pile.....  Would have been 4th down, and they get 1st down...  bad call.... or the one where Brown clearly throws Webb to the ground....  again 1st down.  Maybe not enough to change the outcome of the game.... but they surely helped change the momentum.  There were many series that were extended by bad calls...  I'm sorry...  that referee crew was awful last night......  The steelers weren't wearing their striped uniforms, but they sure as hell provided a few to the referee crew last night.

It was funny how Tonio fell down when webb was guarding him that drew a flag, but when tonio drops webby it wasnt called. I'm not going to act like the officiating didnt cost us because it did. All of their scores came off of a BS call that extended the drive.

'We have 3 fouls...all on the defense....I'm like REALLY?!

Meh, Webb just got beat. Embarrassed, honestly.

it's called adjustments, they adjusted we played the same.if we are weak in certain areas then we adjust,43 points is absurd !! OL'DANNY boy, he is good meaning average, not hating on him.We the RAVENS do need a more aggressive def cord,we all know REX will not be back(wish he would come back) but who else is out there,we have waaayyyyy to much talent on defense not talking about the back end.ELAM,do not have the right coach to play to his strength ,,, but who is the next head coach from our defensive ranks,,it's not OL'DANNY BOY,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I agree, we did not adjust, I would blame more on the Offense though. Pitt's offense adjusted, and played very well, although remember 14 of those points given up came off short field. If our Offense had adjusted, instead of taking deep drops and waiting for receivers to get open, we would have probably moved the ball much better as well, and kept Joe up right. When we did quick passing, we were effective, we just didn't stick with it.

Yes our secondary is pedestrian but the problem also lies with Dean Pees. He's too soft of a coordinator.

With the Jets not going to the playoffs, you have to believe there is a possibility to bring Rex Ryan back.

For the first time in over a decade it's the defense that has been liability so far.

Our Defense was good for the past 14 years becuase we had good coordinators. Unfortunately Pees broke that trend.

If we expect to win another Super Bowl we need to fix our defense and it starts with the coordinator.

Bring back Rex Ryan and the Organized Chaos!

You all have to agree with me despite my reputation on these boards!

I didn't like Greg Mattison either. I wouldn't mind Rex back. But I also think we should get some new blood and see what he could do. Any coordinator who coach Ray Lewis plus Ed Reed job was easy. Let's get someone new in and see what they could do.

No, I actually DON'T agree.  First, I don't believe that Rex comes back working under Harbaugh when he was passed over for the Head Coaching job...  And Thank God for that.  The Jets are a mess....  No way.  The "Organized Chaos days were a completely different era, and I just don't see it.  You can't go backwards, and expect to move forwards.

Edit:  and I'm not giving Rex all of the credit for all those days of that defense.  Look at the other HC's around the league, and many of them have a history of working with the Ravens.
