1:00 games and scheduling

16 posts in this topic

Can someone shed some light on scheduling? Why do we have 2 night games zero 4 o clock games and these teams all have 5 night games including some teams having back to back prime time games.

5 Prime time games

Saints

Packers

Cowboys

Bears

Broncos

Pats

Sucks waking up from a crazy hangover every sunday at 10 to go watch a game. Miss being in Baltimore, sleeping in waking up and turning on the TV and boom. Gotta drive 25 minutes now to the place closest with NFL ticket. (Louisiana)...

Every team gets one Monday game and one Thursday game. It's kinda stupid, but them's the rub.

Beyond that, the primetime games are given out based on how big the game is (sorry Bills vs Jags) and the size of the team's tv market. So that's why you see a lot of New York, Philadelphia, Washington, Pittsburgh and so on and etc.

Baltimore's a small market, so we don't get a whole raft of primetime games. On that note, it's why the notion we're somehow "disrespected" or hated by the media is full of it. Reality is that no one cares about us, so the media doesn't either.

The 4 o'clock games are based heavily on time zones if I'm not mistaken. It'd be why those games are usually on the west coast and why we don't get that slot.

Personally I love having the early games. Means I can watch the whole thing before work.

Night games are painfull for season ticket holders who work a normal M-F 9-5, especially Thursday and Monday. I always figured the Ravens like their fans more and ask for fewer of them, unlike the teams previously mentioned with 4-5 such dates.

Personally I wish they'd drop Thursday night football.  It's getting to be too muchn following the sport already takes up all day and night Sunday plus Monday night.

I'd be happy if all our home games started at 1:00. I hate 4:00 home games and I'm not at all fond of late-season night games. When they're on the road I don't much care what time the game starts.

Every team gets a Thursday game... not every team gets a Monday game. There are multiple teams (Giants, Colts, Redskins, Saints, Eagles, Bears, Steelers, maybe some others) who play two Monday night games this year, and there are several who don't play any.

The 4pm games are, in general, reserved for West coast or central time zone home games. Given that the Ravens don't play any road games on the West coast this season, it doesn't make sense to schedule us for those time slots. Sometimes if one of the networks wants a high-profile game to be shown in a more "primetime" slot, they will move an east coast game to the 4pm slots (like they did yesterday with Indy/Pittsburgh), because they think the ratings will be better there.

Some years, like when we play the AFC West or the NFC West, we might play 3-4 4pm games, and some years, like this one, we may not be scheduled for any.

And I do agree with the Baltimore is a small market concept. I know Ravens fans like to pretend like we should be a great media draw because of our recent success, but high profile QBs and great storylines, coupled with big media markets, is what draws ratings in the NFL. We don't have any of those benefits realistically, and we can't sell the Ray Lewis persona anymore.

with our secondary the only chance we may have against San Diego at home is that its a 1 pm start. SD may not have a hangover but hopefully they will have jet lag.

Players will tell you consistency and routine supposedly helps them. By that note, the player's should and likely are very happy about the time of these games.

The 1pm games suck for me too since I've been on drill for a lot of that games this year.

thanks for chiming in everyone, i figured the west coast games would get 4 o clock slots but then i started noticing some that weren't so wasn't too sure. also nothing worst than a drill weekend when the ravens play at 1 vs pitt or something... we had cable in our office and for some reason they recently cut all the channels that would have aired a ravens games.

I'm not allowed to have my phone when I'm on drill due to what I do on my unit. Sucks big time. Lol. I'm hoping next year we get more 4pm games. I'd kill for a TV but nope. Not at my unit. It sucks big time.

We will be playing NFC and AFC West entire divisions next season, so I guarantee we will have several.

I know for certain we will be playing Arizona and SF as road games, and we should be in Oakland and Denver I believe also. Can easily see 2-3 4pm games out of that alone.

That will be great. It really sucks having to watch the games on replay. I hate going to the west coast but not much you can do it.
