Official Vent thread vs Bengals

I love Joe Flacco and everything I'll defend but I'm furious with him right now. He had way too many mistakes imo. He could've run for a first down at least once, he made two absolutely stupid interceptions, he overthrew guys a few times more than he should've. I'm really mad at his performance this week.

Defense was extremely inconsistent and the DL did not win the battle. I'm really irritated that we couldn't blow up Bodine at center. The guy's a rookie and he's not that good. Then kept losing guys due to injuries. It was ridiculous! Are we getting best up out there or something? Defense looked a lot better than the offense though.

I think I need to cool off after this one. I'm really pissed right now.

I only put the first interception on Joe (he absolutely stared down Torrey and for someone who's in their seventh year, that's terrible), but he did make a lot of bad throws. The offensive line didn't impress me much. Joe was feeling a lot more pressure this week than he had in the past two. It was clearly affecting him to have that many bodies hitting him or in his vicinity. Definitely lots of high and low throws that he normally makes. Something was up this week.

The defensive line just really disappointed me. The way they allowed those quarterback sneaks to go for like three yards was really bad. For a defensive line that big, they should not be getting manhandled that way. No push whatsoever

This was a team loss but he was absolutely the biggest factor. This is two weeks in a row he went for it all too often and got burned. Last week we were against a terrible team so it didn't matter. But it bit us this week.

A loss next week and we're officially in trouble.

1. No realistic person thinks that wasn't a penalty on Smith. Its about as obvious OPI as you're going to see in this league. You can argue and debate whether or not the flag should have been thrown, how often it gets thrown, whether it was DPI also, etc. all day long. It changes nothing.

2. We were outplayed for at least three quarters in this game. That's why we lost. The only aspect of football that we were better than them at was probably the running game. Their QB played better, their defense played better, their receivers played better, their offensive line in pass protection was better, and they were better on ST.

When you get outplayed in the overwhelming majority of the aspects of football, winning the game becomes incredibly difficult.

They keep trotting Elam out there because they don't want to admit they whiffed in the first round.

People will bring up Jimmy being lackluster his first few years but Jimmy was derailed by injury, and still had a promising game-changing play at the end of his first year (the INT in the AFC title game). I see very little improvement from Elam, and I'm tired of watching him launch his body into nothing. Caldwell knew what he was doing luring Ihedigbo to Detroit.

There's literally not one thing that Elam does well.

No way you can make that OPI call to decide the game. They got tangled up, both had their arms on each other, the defender fell and Smitty stayed on his feet. Say what you want, we was robbed.

It is true that referees don't typically call those penalties at the end of the game, especially when you didn't call them earlier in the game. That's the key. We would've been mad if it was reverse.

I don't think it should've been called because referees don't typically want to put themselves into that position but nothing we can do. I'm not even angry about that. I'm angrier about not calling the nonsense on Torrey Smith when he went out of the game to get evaluated. That was a penalty if I ever saw one.

First pick is on Joe. Second one was a good or maybe illegal defensive play. Torrey had incidental contact with a CB that screwed the timing. Not on Joe. He still didn't play well in general today.

John Harbaugh's decision to go or 4th and goal instead of the 3 points in the 1st qtr is why we are not playing in OT and whey we lost this game. He did the same thing versus Green Bay last year and we lost that game too. Someone please tell coach, unless it's the 4th qtr and we're behind, take the 3 points and keep fighting instead of going for it on 4th and goal. Always take the points especially in the first half. Thank you.

THIS f'n THIS! He needs to stop that damn garbage. We have the best kicker in the league for what?! We're on the road and we were down TAKE THE POINTS.  Someone better ask Harbs this question.

For what it's worth, we're still on track to go 10-6 and we've arguably got the three toughest games on our schedule out of the way.

No way in hell this season's over. A good team lost to another good team, so we've just got to move on and focus on next week.

No not writing the season off or anything like that at all. Just do not like refs deciding games in that fashion on penalties I see go uncalled or off setting all day long every single Sunday.

Especially given the non-calls that went all day long as the Bengal defenders mugged our receivers.

I want to agree, but Cimcy could just as easily argue that we called a pick play. The refs probably saw it as incidental contact.

Good thing a lot of people on here aren't realistic

I'm with you here.  We may not agree on everything but this is one instance where I share the exact same thoughts.

yea i felt like im the only one to notice that. mosley reaches in front and gets a rock solid swat on the ball, and because his left arm was touching the receivers back its a PI.. i thought if the defender gets a hand on the ball then the receiver is fair game, i know the ball wasnt swatted before the contact, but they both occurred so close to eachother in terms of when it happened, that im not so sure it should be called.

on the other hand, the ball had just left joes hand, and pacman runs face first into torreys facemask, i mean just charges right through him and almost knocks him out cold before torrey even has a chance to turn his head.

we didnt deserve to win today the way we played, but there is no denying there were some questionable calls that took away what wouldve been a miracle win.

Yeah I mean both of those calls gave the Bengals points there. I am fine if they want to go one way or another but be consistent with it, if they want to get ticky tacky, then call the PI on the int, and if they want to let them play, don't call the Mosely PI.

I put both on him but I might just be a little pissed off right now and might not be thinking too clearly. Really irritated after that loss. Stupid things like I saw really irritate me. Going to need a good episode of Walking Dead tonight.

DL did not play well. Not at all. Ngata had some great plays, though.

Stop being petty and blaming refs for deciding the game. They're doing their job. If you blame the refs you are a blind homer.

Joe Flacco with his boneheaded picks and the defense with its pathetic missed tackles lost us this game. Not even arguable.

Gotta agree. Can't blame the refs.

History shows we can beat them. We have beaton them before we can do it again. Just because it hasn't happened recently doesn't mean it can't.

Not recent history brah!  Smh!  Recent history, um...the last game of last season and their 2 meetings this season shows that the Ravens can't seem to beat the Bengals.  They are presently 0-3 against them.  So my statement stands!

It was a timing play on the second one and the defender and Torrey ran into each other, messing up the timing. It happens sometimes.

The 2nd INT is tough.  Torrey clearly stopped his route there when he was knocked under the chin, and Joe was definitely anticipating Torrey to continue that route.

I have to disagree on that. Even if it's a blatantly terrible call of Fail Mary proportions (which I don't think it was, but I digress), we had plenty of other chances to win that and we couldn't take them. The frustration's one thing, but the loss was still more on us not executing. It happens (look at Seattle or even the Steelers), and we just have to move on and focus on the next game in front of us.

Um...yes it does. It makes it a BS call if it is never called in that situation any other time. It makes it a BS call if that contact is called DPI 99% of the time other than that one.

It doesn't change the loss but it does change the nature of the call.

I'm not even saying it wasn't OPI. It clearly was OPI but it was contact from the defender first to Smith Sr's chest - DPI. Even the announcers thought it was intially DPI and were all surprised and excited when it turned out to be OPI.
