Official Vent thread vs Bengals

99% of the time I agree and yea there was some ugly ugly plays by every phase of the team but I mean

We legitimately scored the game winning TD and it was called back... Not like pulling something out of our butt here

It pains me to say it but Smitty did commit OPI. A lot of people are saying it never gets called. Those people haven't watched much football this season. It's getting called often this season.

Rules are rules, guys.

Oh and side note

Supposedly this is same side judge that didn't throw the flag against Tomlin in that sideline incident last year

Carry on

Flacco needs to stop making terrible decisions. The Zebras needs to learn to do their jobs. The injury bug needs to go bother some other team, we just can't get/stay healthy.

forget Flaccos interception.. We had this freaking game in our hands being up 24-20. Literally all the D had to do was make a stop. We use to be able to make game winning stops in close games especially in the Ray Lewis era. Not sure why we continue to choke at the end. I'm going to be bummed all day.

That's were missing Asa and Jimmy came in... they picked on the secondary and scored with ease.

The Bengals mugged us all day. It is zero coincidence that all of our star players were getting hurt. They Held our Pass Rush EVERY SINGLE TIME just like week one.

Disgusting.

I'm gonna do the uncool thing and call a BS penalty a BS penalty. We played awful, we deserved to lose. OTOH we made that play, we deserved that TD. And the zeal that ref had when he announced it to the stadium really irked me.

Steve Smith turned and stopped and Iloka's momentum was carrying him past (so he didn't restrict his movement) and Smith was more than able to put his arms on Iloka and shove him off (so it's not like he barred him from catching the ball). No call on Iloka.

First touch is by the defender on Smith Sr's chest - DPI. Period. Watch it again. Yes it does restrict his opportunity to catch the ball.

Aight so our only disagreement is whether he grabbed or not..

I'd say it was a flop or the worst it was his natural motion taking him...

How could smith change his direction to coming back for the ball and extend arms grab and shove a defender and change the defenders direction all at one time?

It looks a lot like Steve was using Iloka to stop his own momentum

For what it's worth, we're still on track to go 10-6 and we've arguably got the three toughest games on our schedule out of the way.

No way in hell this season's over. A good team lost to another good team, so we've just got to move on and focus on next week.

I know you're all in a knee-jerk reaction stage now, but after you all cool off you'll see that it was OPI.  Our defense played okay today but at the end of the day they couldn't stop the Bengals when it mattered.  Is no one talking about that?  Or how about Flacco's two INTs?  It's easy to blame the refs, but they got it right this time.  We lost as a team.

You're being so biased it's not even funny. Not only does it look like Iloka never touched Smith's chest, his hands came back to him in less than a second. He barely touched Smith, and it didn't restrict Smith's ability to catch the ball because Smith was able to use his arms to push off Iloka and stop his own momentum

We have like what 6 safeties? 1 reliable cover corner Jimmy smith, one injured decent corner Webb and then there is Franks. I understand not playing Chykie. But man is there anybody in FA that can play any because these Safeties can't play the backend let alone line up over a WR lets stop acting like its creative or creating havoc on Offenses. Nobody is walking to the line of scrimmage trying to figure out which group is out there if it is Elam, Stewart or Trawick,Brooks, Hill is out there.

Defense allows two soulless red TDs.

Flacco wildly inaccurate.

WRs sucking.

If not for Ngata and Mosley giftwrapping 10 points this wouldn't have even been close.

Even if it was DPI, which I don't really think it was, it would have been offsetting and we'd still be stuck back on our own ~20 with 30 seconds left to go.

That call wasn't what lost us the game.  Would have been nice if they didn't call it though.

I love Joe Flacco and everything I'll defend but I'm furious with him right now. He had way too many mistakes imo. He could've run for a first down at least once, he made two absolutely stupid interceptions, he overthrew guys a few times more than he should've. I'm really mad at his performance this week.

Defense was extremely inconsistent and the DL did not win the battle. I'm really irritated that we couldn't blow up Bodine at center. The guy's a rookie and he's not that good. Then kept losing guys due to injuries. It was ridiculous! Are we getting best up out there or something? Defense looked a lot better than the offense though.

I think I need to cool off after this one. I'm really pissed right now.

Yeah, that's a big thing that people seem to be forgetting. Given the success of the Ravens on deep passes throughout the game, and on that drive, does anyone really believe the Ravens would have had success if they had gotten offsetting penalties?

Harbs stop playing those garbage butt Safeties Stewart and Elam. I know he had the Strip but he missed the safety on Dalton.

Why do we not start our 22 best players. Please tell me why. You mean to tell me Stewart and freakin Elam are better than Brooks and HILL!!!! ARE you SERIOUS?!

We are playing players that have no business being in the NFL. Franks? are you kidding me?

Webby, burned on that double move. You suck too, greg little? Are you kidding me. That first catch you allowed to Sanu was awful. Knock the damn ball out of his hands it was 3rd down.

I know we're going to miss Jimmy.

Joe STOP BEING f'n greedy, that first pick was terrible. You don't need to go deep every play, its on kubes now to rail Joe back in and play within the system. I

Torrey Smith is soft! Softer than his little baby boy's butt. You quit media. No start learning how to run routes. This is pathetic.

Can we stop f'n passing it on 4th and 1!!!!!

Bobby Ingram needs to get his guys and do some drills or something like yesterday.

OZZIE We need another CB or WR. don't just say it do it.

Ok....

on a lighter note how about our Rookies

1-7 all did well IMO

Mosley Brooks (until that last coverage), Camp, LT, All played well

Breaking News- According to AP reports from the post game locker room, Marvin Lewis stated "We played great on all phase, offense, defense, special teams, but this game ball goes to a team that stay focus, who was there when we needed them the most. This game ball goes out to Clete Blakeman and his officiating crew." Clete accepted the game ball on behalf of today's officiating crew. According to other sources, several Bengals players, when returning to the locker room stated. "Check is in the mail. Baby, the check is in the mail"

Mod Note: just in case anyone fails to immediately realize it, this is NOT true.

It was clearly OPI. The safety flopped and should probably go get a career in acting but I can't blame him for playing smart. The penalty was legit.

They keep trotting Elam out there because they don't want to admit they whiffed in the first round.

People will bring up Jimmy being lackluster his first few years but Jimmy was derailed by injury, and still had a promising game-changing play at the end of his first year (the INT in the AFC title game). I see very little improvement from Elam, and I'm tired of watching him launch his body into nothing. Caldwell knew what he was doing luring Ihedigbo to Detroit.

No way you can make that OPI call to decide the game.  They got tangled up, both had their arms on each other, the defender fell and Smitty stayed on his feet. Say what you want, we was robbed.

I don't care how much we lost by, whose fault it is, or who we're playing. A loss is a loss, and we need to work harder to get it done next week in Pittsburgh. Hopefully Jimmy Smith will be okay, along with Michael Campanaro and anyone else that happened to be taken out of the game due to injury. I really hope Harbaugh gives Champ Bailey a call this week, yeah he's old but a veteran thats had as good of a career as him would be better then Dominique Franks.

I love how everyone panics after a 3 point loss meanwhile we have the same record as the defending champs. We've got the Steelers to worry about next week, then the Titans and our bye. Hopefully after the bye we can have everyone healthy and back to full strength.

I hate to put a loss on the refs but the noncall for PI on Torrey is getting to me. They threw a ticky tack call on Mosley the drive before and then took points off on the Steve offensive PI but they couldn't call that? I am sorry but that is just ridiculous and had they called that, it is 3 points off the board and we are playing in OT right now.

yea i felt like im the only one to notice that. mosley reaches in front and gets a rock solid swat on the ball, and because his left arm was touching the receivers back its a PI.. i thought if the defender gets a hand on the ball then the receiver is fair game, i know the ball wasnt swatted before the contact, but they both occurred so close to eachother in terms of when it happened, that im not so sure it should be called.

on the other hand, the ball had just left joes hand, and pacman runs face first into torreys facemask, i mean just charges right through him and almost knocks him out cold before torrey even has a chance to turn his head.

we didnt deserve to win today the way we played, but there is no denying there were some questionable calls that took away what wouldve been a miracle win.
