Official Vent thread vs Bengals

Don't even know how it can be argued that it was DPI. Smith Sr initiated contact and pushed him down.

He flopped for effect. But it was still OPI.

He cannot run into the receiver and not even be looking at the ball. That is considered DPI.

Please watch that play. He didn't run into Smith. He ran beside him and put his arms up. In no way, shape, or form was Smith's positioning or body moved or changed, which is where it would be DPI. The defender is allowed to put a hand on him as long as Smith's chance to catch the ball isn't altered, which it wasn't. The bias here is so real.

By rule isn't offensive player allowed to establish contact just not extend arms and push defender?

Yes, players are allowed to put their arms or hands on each other as long as you don't change their positioning (push off, grab, run into them, etc) or bar them from catching the ball. Smith puts his arms on Iloka, grabs (in my view), and executes a clear push off.

Stop being petty and blaming refs for deciding the game. They're doing their job. If you blame the refs you are a blind homer.

Joe Flacco with his boneheaded picks and the defense with its pathetic missed tackles lost us this game. Not even arguable.

Our defense didn't force turnovers... we took them... Our offense gave them the ball. That was the difference in the game. We had 1 legitimate corner (he didn't play well either)out there and a bunch of strong safeties. Missing Daniels hurt us. Our rbs had a great game when given the opportunity... Flacco had an inconsistent game. His only good plays were when he threw to the rbs.

When are coaches in the NFL going to realize that possession (especially at the end of games) is more important than scoring?  When you have a 1 point lead with 5 minutes to go, you cannot give the ball back to the other team.  The way the rules are written (and called) now, it's useless to kick a field goal to go up four if you give the other guys 3:30 to come back and get a touchdown.  Unless you get another miracle sack/fumble or strip fumble, the other team is always going to come right back down the field, and you will be facing 1st and goal at the 7.  Even if you have to go for it on fourth down with a one-point lead, the first down is more important than a field goal there.  It happens every week.  The best defense is:  don't let the other QB have the ball.

"Contact by a defender who is not playing the ball and such contact restricts the receiver’s opportunity to make the catch."

He was not playing the ball & did indeed restrict Smith Sr at the time of contact. Yes his contact then had him going backwards but when the intitial contact was made - he was indeed restricting the opportunity to make the catch.

"Cutting off the path of a receiver by making contact with him without playing the ball."

same.

I hate to say it but If Jimmy is out for the season or an extended period of time I don't see us making the playoffs. Franks, a guy we signed off the street 6 weeks in the the season, would be our starting corner. Maybe if Webb was playing like he did a couple years ago we could overcome it but Webb is playing average at best right now.

Lardarius Webb is a massive disappointment.

I only remember one throw to his coverage and it was incomplete.  Granted it should have been a TD, but Dalton overthrew the guy.

Aight so our only disagreement is whether he grabbed or not..

I'd say it was a flop or the worst it was his natural motion taking him...

How could smith change his direction to coming back for the ball and extend arms grab and shove a defender and change the defenders direction all at one time?

Stop complaining about the refs or that last play.  We "bungled" up so many opportunities prior to that last offensive pass interference.

This.I put this more on the defense.Outside the recovery and return by Darryl Smith, the D did nothing in the second half. The Bengals seemingly converted every third down they had.

The guy flopped but it's still offensive PI.

If Flacco put it in front of Smith Sr then he probably doesn't initiate contact.

Yes there is contact on both players part. The D-Back got the 1st chest touch with his right hand when the ball was in the air. (PENALTY)  Smith Sr got the second (more physical) touch (PENALTY) and the guy clearly flopped (PENALTY). It's a no call or a call on both...not one. My thoughts: You put away the flag on that one (You've allowed that type of play all game).

forget Flaccos interception.. We had this freaking game in our hands being up 24-20. Literally all the D had to do was make a stop. We use to be able to make game winning stops in close games especially in the Ray Lewis era. Not sure why we continue to choke at the end. I'm going to be bummed all day.

I don't want to use the "b" word but Elam is getting close. So sick of watching him tackle air.

I don't know how the 2015 safety class looks but we need a competent one badly. Ihedigbo is deeply missed.

Plus the usual drops and WRs quitting on the routes.

None of that was on the refs.

99% of the time I agree and yea there was some ugly ugly plays by every phase of the team but I mean

We legitimately scored the game winning TD and it was called back... Not like pulling something out of our butt here

Both Bengals games we had the lead late, both we lost.

But this is still mostly on the offense. Without the defense we wouldn't have even had a shot.

Our pathetic offense couldn't run some time off the clock instead taking a 52 yarder and giving the Bengals O plenty of time.

And twice in the same game.

They killed us with screens Week 1. It was like Pees had never seen one before.

I guess Sanu's name wasn't on his list. By next year he'll figure out how to defend it. Maybe.

Steve Smith turned and stopped and Iloka's momentum was carrying him past (so he didn't restrict his movement) and Smith was more than able to put his arms on Iloka and shove him off (so it's not like he barred him from catching the ball). No call on Iloka.

What about the first pass to Sanu to start the td in the first quarter.

If some of y'all want to think we were robbed I won't stop you. But the gif clearly shows OPI. I don't see DPI at all, and neither did the refs.

I thought the PI call on Mosely earlier was pretty BS

Yeah that is the thing with me, it isn't that I can't see any of these calls being overturned(besides the Torrey play) but they were pretty inconsistent, if you are going to let them play like when Torrey got hit, then let them play on the Mosely playe. Either that or call it when Torrey gets hit like that.
