Official Vent thread vs Bengals

592 posts in this topic

Why is everyone saying the Bengals aren't good? They are in 1st place in our division and beat us twice already. If that equates to them not being good, then we are bad. There is no argument to be made that we are better than the Bengals. We played them twice and lost both times. SMH.

Please tell me why the Ravens CB's play 10 yards off the receivers on 3rd downs.

This,..... and going for 60 yard passes on 3rd and 2 are the things that have driven me insane this season

That call was correct. Steve Smith threw the guy to the ground. Flop or not, its offensive PI.

If the shoe was on the other foot you all would have been saying it was clear PI.

Stop blaming this on the refs. This loss is on Joe for his horrendous throws, the receivers for not getting open at all during the game, the defense for their horrendous coverage, and the special teams for being a sieve.

You guys sound like Steelers fans sitting around blaming the refs. Its embarrassing.

I have to disagree about the call, it was a dive all the way, and yes the refs stole a win from us.. However, was that why we lost? Or did we lose because Flacco started the 2nd half with two interceptions? Or the defense surrendering the lead late?

So, yes the refs ruined the Ravens chance of winning that game, but it never should have come to that.

Nothing to say - that call was a valid call; maybe wouldn't have been called on other teams, but it was a valid call. Smith pushed him right off - didn't even need to, either; he had the vision and extension to catch that ball in coverage.

Had he done so and just taken the tackle, we could've run down, spiked it and gave Tucker the FG for the tie - and we'd be in OT right now...but no, instead we're walking into the locker room in shock.

Just....

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..

This.... And unfortunately that's how the refs are calling it this year. It's how they called the preseason too. Many thought that it would change once the regular season started but it hasn't. And it's not just the Ravens, it's league wide. It's really unfortunate because it's ruining the game. But it is what it is. Game over.

Was at the game and I couldn't believe that play came back. Even multiple Bengals fans at the stadium that I spoke with knew that they caught a huge break.

Still doesn't change the fact that our secondary is garbage (couldn't even hold a team without their best receiver), Pees is garbage, and that Flacco's picks to start the second half did not help at all.

I didn't cite it as a problem, that's your interpretation, not my intent. When you originally asked for the information it was at the top of the previous page. I cited the page for you.  I think you are making more of this than it needs to be. lol  The information is there if you wish to review it, if not its not a problem.

That's fine, I was just saying your attitude came across as rude

Honestly came on here just to ask you that.. Just saw it myself while at work and about wrecked my forklift...

WOW

All I could see was that side view and it was no question, but when I saw that other view, I have to seriously wonder how they called it in that situation. Mega flop probably did it considering it would be very minor OPI

Its not so much losing.

Its the fact that we were up in the 4th quarter of two of those losses. And the colts game we found every reason not to win it.

The falcons, Panthers and Steelers all got thoroughly dominated by us. Those types of losses I can deal with. When u can tell who the better team is. Hasn't been the case in any of our three losses.

Torrey smith is hurting this team right now! Either he gets his crap together or he needs to ride the pine . 0/0 and caused an INT that's Torreys stat line.

The Oline is giving up far too many free runners to the qb. Joe has done a decent job getting free but it's alarming how in our losses we had TONS of guys coming clean to the QB.

We may have the worst safety duo in the league, depending on the rotation. Matt Elam can't tackle... He did force a fumble yesterday but he's not a fundamentally sound tackler. Coming into his rookie year, that's all we heard... How he tackles.. I personally don't see it! Guys are throwing him off and gaining YAC... It's inexcusible ! Brooks hasn't played horribly, but gave up the huge 3rd down conversion for about 50 yards... Failure to locate the ball.

Either Webby is used up and injuries have taken their toll or he's just still shaking rust off... But this guy can't cover right now! GREG Little burned him ... GREG LITTLE... One of the slower WR's in the league.. That's a joke. Webb still has the fire in his heart, but the legs look really tired!

That whole crew is a bunch of OPI fanatics

That game was way too important to lose like that especially since we didn't even really deserve to win

I really like Torrey but I have to agree. Some guys elevate their game in contract years but I think the opposite is happening with Torrey. His frustration whenever he draws a PI penalty tells me he wants his "stats" for when the season ends and he is pressing. I'm also frustrated that he is still little more than a deep threat. Joe even came out and pretty much said that's all he does.

Outside of the first and final drives, the defense did an outstanding job and the two forced turnovers in the 4th quarter were the only reason we had any business being in that game.

Mosley built on his strong rookie season and Daryl Smith played a nice game, too. The pass rush was on and off, we had a number of holds called but a lot that were missed, too - happens every game, to every team.

Dominique Franks was being picked on once Jimmy Smith went out (hope he's okay). Franks let up plays and almost had an INT running down the field but 'almost' doesn't count in the NFL. Webb thought he had an easy pick in the first drive on what he assumed was an overthrow but Sanu is huge and got the ball on a nice catch. In the final drive, Sanu again got a long pass when Terrence Brooks was caught out of position and couldn't adjust (or look at) the ball. Brooks is a rookie so it's a growing pain but, man, it hurt. That play was on a 3rd and 10, too. Elam played more than last week, from what I could tell, and missed some tackles but made the huge play that ended up with the Mosley INT.

Bengals didn't get any traction running which is a big credit to our DL and LBs who have shown up all year in that department.

edit - Joe Flacco played a bad game, his worst of the year. It is what it is. Misread on the first INT, that LB is 6'4 and used that height to get to that pass. On the second pick, Torrey got hit in the mouth on his route, stopped running, and the pass (thrown to where he would have been) went right to a Bengals defender.

Torrey Smith had a bad day. The two picks were thrown in his direction, had to go in for concussion protocol, and no catches on the day. We needed our receivers today after their dismal performance in Week 1 but they came up small. Taliaferro led the whole team in yards and Campanaro showed his stuff. Maybe the Bengals just have the formula for them.

Running game was average, maybe below. The Bengals are a good defense but we have the talent to impose our will, or should. We keep getting stuffed - on and off - in short yardage including again this week. The coaches have a lot of faith in these guys and it's time for those returns. They're building, I know, and that was the first drive for Monroe and KO back from injury but it's time for them to come through - I'm confident in that group.

ST was good for the most part. Tucker was awesome - made a 53-yarder, Koch made some nice kicks, and there were no hiccups with the LS that I saw. Kick coverage was solid, as well, no big returns. Jacoby had a bad day. Got a few offensive snaps and was taking everything he could out of the endzone, only got back to the 20 (the 21, woohoo) once on his 5 KRs - 1 instance was a holding call which took the ball back to the 10. Not Jacobys fault but whatever. Also mishandled a ball, forcing him to take a touchback.

You know something? As much as I hate their team, I have yet to say something bad about their fans unlike Steelers and Browns fans. I personally know a couple of them and they don't give me a hard time at all. Go figure..

yeah, the ones I know are a pretty reasonable bunch.  But I'm getting tired of one in particular, only because I've been handing money over to him much too often!

I'm still shaking my head at the yardage allowed on both QB sneaks. Can't let them have that type of push. The PI was tickytack but he did push off but it shouldn't have warranted a flag imo. Joe should also be saddled with giving the Bengals 7 pts. That 1st interception was 100% on him.

Every year my friend and I would have a bet too. But I forgot to talk to him before the season started....thank goodness.

Lets talk about how laughable it was to see ANDY DALTON QB sneak right into the heart of our defense... funny thinkgis... we didnt even have our guys on the LOS, which is very weird on a goalline stand. The bengals killed us on 3rd downs most of the game, our defense is pretty rough in situational awareness....

BTW, it should be mentioned that the penalty on the LT TD was HUGE, but I didnt see what happened from the broadcast... Who was the guilty party? That was a big swing, as Tucker was booming KO's and we had to kick from the darn 20 YL. Talk about BONEHEADED, not that I saw what happened. It would be nice to get a real broadcast crew.

Man from a browns fan that was a BAD call and a robbery. Smith sr. got robbed plain and simple. That was some sad crap right there. I hope you guys beat the doors off the steelers next week.

pathetic that following the Mosley int., we couldn't muster more than 7 yards and are forced to rely on tucker to hit a 53 yard field goal. our offense, I should say a good offense will sense a chance to put your foot on the opponents throat and find a way to get a touchdown. the fact that we barely got into FG range is beyond frustrating.

Torry is proving to be limited and predictable.... where was pernell mcPhee?   Why did will hill not play?

Jacoby Jones is a liability on returns. Monroe is serviceable at LT....nothing more.

Flacco is averaging nearly a pick per game..... no commitment to the running game-   too few playmakers.....after gilmore so we even have a tight end?

Forgot about that. I did want to see what happened, too. Was a swing in field position because although we picked off Dalton on the next drive, we had to settle for a 53-yd FG.

Yeah, my biggest complaint honestly is how they played the rest of the game. I think fans need to be grateful that the Ravens were even in it that long. Just terrible and inept offensive output and too many long plays

Penalty was on Monroe for unsportsmanlike conduct, just don't know what specifically he did.

So I wanted to vent a bit but also kind of extinguish some flaming torches and lower some pitchforks, at least that's my hope.  So firstly, venting.

I don't even want to talk about the PI call.  As I said in another post, I think homefield advantage and poor judgement helped the Bengals there.  I think it could have gone either way, and unfortunately we lost out.  One more vent I have, Holy FourthandShort Batman, Harbs, my man, what do I need to do to have you take points when they are right there in front of us?  I'll buy you dinner for the rest of the season, I'll drive you to practice, whatever it takes.  But seriously, I was arguing with my dad over it, because he thinks we should go for those 4th and short plays.  My argument is, WE ARE A GOOD/GREAT FOOTBALL TEAM, WE DON"T NEED +7 TO WIN GAMES, we are only losing games by a FEW points.  A field goal is OK if it gets us the W.  A bad team needs those extra 7 points, we are NOT a bad team, take those points when they are there.  Oh yeah, and did I mention we have the most bomb-diggity kicker in the game?

Moving on, people are ready to run Pees out of town.  R-E-L-A-X (12, Rodgers).  Last few weeks(excluding this week), can we agree he called some great, agressive games?  Ok, so with that said, you need a solid secondary to play aggressive defense.  If I am Pees, and our #1 coverage man, Jimmy, gets knocked out with an injury, guess what, I'm playing safe from now on.  Without our best cover man, blitzing becomes a very dangerous thing.  Am i happy with him?  No, but Pees did the safe thing here, albeit, arguably not the best thing.  But I can't hate him for being safe with one of our best defenders out, and a secondary that, frankly, sucks right now.  Also, can people please, Please, PLEASE, give Flacco a break?  He's inconsistent, we get it.  But he's clutch, VERY clutch, and I'd rather have him than Payton Manning, who is nothing but show and can't win when it matters.

It's the regular season people, we look like this EVERY YEAR, I'm worried because we have the best division in football, and I don't want that to keep us out of the playoffs.  But we have the best playoff team in the league, we just need to keep our heads up, and not get to sick over games like this.  It's easy, I know, but we win when it matters, and right now we still control our destiny, despite what some may think.  Our games from here on out are winnable, so let's just dawn our armor and go out there.

this was really the big reason for the loss yesterday. before we allowed our defense to blow it by enabling the bengals to score a TD from their own 20, if we would have gottne a few first downs after the pick we wouldn't have given them time to score. instead we went three and out and tucker had to hit a 53 yarder.

You just cannot go 14-6 right off the bat.

This game and Chargers game @november will be the games to really gauge how good Flacco is this season.   Erase this game and move on.

Another major disappointment was our pass rushers.  They dominated on weak Oline and got dumped on by stronger lineman this week.  Suggs and Doom need to take care of business.   This game could have been another Matt Ryan's game if either of those pro bowlers showed their worth.  They couldn't get it done.   I see this being an ongoing season throughout the year.

You can blame the Pees, Kube, and the young players all you want.  But these 3 leaders on our Ravens uniform need to think through something and really become that elite player people needs when chips falls down.  All they are right now are just big names.  THATS IT!

Ok and real quick, we have more 4th down attempts than anyone in the league (11).  And a middle of the pack success rate (45%).  To me, this is unacceptable.  What does it say about our team, that we feel the need to go for it on 4th so often?  As I stated above, a bad team needs those extra points, we ARE NOT a bad team.  We need to take the field goals when they are there.

EDIT*  And for reference, guess who has the least 4th down attempts?  Denver, Dallas, San Diego, and Arizona.  I see a trend here...
