Official Vent thread vs Bengals

Ed Zachary why I think questioning the officials is kind of a moot point. You make Sanu look that good and you don't deserve to win.

Couldn't agree more! But at the same time, this game also shows our lack of talent at DB (specifically corner)

If our name was the Falcons that would have been a TD.

I love this post...  just thinking Roddy and Julio...  all day long

Sanu is a good player, though. I liked him a lot coming out of Rutgers. He has talent.

Well, if you want me to I could find 49 other reasons and say the same thing with a different reason.

Lol. Yeah, I just like Sanu. I think he's a really talented player. I wanted him in that draft and was disappointed we didn't get him. It does take WRs three years to breakout, according to some.

all I wanted was this to be a STATEMENT game, beat them especially while they are hurt, there was so much talk about andy dalton winning in baltimore and he did ,,, why do we have to take the hard road ,,,

I read somewhere that todays referee is the same that did not throw the flag when Tomlin stepped on field and got in Jacobys way.

Hmmmmmmm.

OK, we lost and it hurts bad, really bad. I'm not going to read this whole thread, It's gonna be too depressing but I just want to say a couple of things. And because so many posts at this topic are only negative I'm trying to say something positive. Here we go.

We had some bad plays like this:

Plus questionable play calling on 2nd & 2 and 3rd & 2 of two bombs. With Torrey off the field even. Not smart.

But then again we had some great plays also. We fought and we lost, but we didn't give up at any point. The Bengals were a better team today. I'm not saying that we were not be able to beat them, after all It was a close game and we almost got the winning TD... This is sports and that's the way it goes sometimes. There's always goin to be bad calls, bad plays and bad things just happens sometimes. Not everything is in your hands. Don't leave it to the refs, play better.

We can play better I have no doubt about that, a lot better, and I hope the team will learn something from this and come back stronger. There are a lot of things that needs to be evaluated and I hope they do. The D-backfield is still a big problem, but it's not the only one.

I hate to lose, but c'mon how many teams are there that never loses? Be critical but stop whining. Be Joe Flacco, be cool, keep your head high even if you lose. Believe in your team. Don't give up and bleed purple if you have to. Be a Raven!

Ok, the Ravens lost. Everyone go back to your lives and meet back here Sunday. Nothing to see here.

hahahaha Don't most of us do that anyway?

Not the end of the world and unlike some I'm glad the Steelers won today. The Indy loss helps us out & they won't be in desperation mode next week.

We need to beat them next week - which will put them in desperation mode for their 2 games with Cincy. Need to think these things through lol

Late to it, and I'm surely echoing many others in saying this, but what a crushing outcome. Absolutely crushing.

That 'offensive pass interference', or 'we need the AFC North division to still be alive with 8 weeks left in the season' as was clearly the reason for throwing a flag there. Pathetic, in a league where there are so many atrocious calls on defensive backs, you then decide a blatant flop by the defensive back is when you are going to call a penalty? Sort it out, officials.

As others may have noticed, this is the second time this season against Cincinnati where simply taking available field goals when they are there has ultimately caused late game pressure, and losses. Much like in Week 1, had we simply taken field goals on all red zone fourth down stops, we would have been tied at 27 in this game - and would have only needed a field goal to tie at the end of Week 1. Both games obviously ended in narrow defeat, and those calls would have made a huge difference to at least splitting this season series.

Another play calling problem I had was the lack of willingness to run the ball on short third downs. Forsett and Taliaferro were by no means being stymied, and opting for 20+ yard passes when we have a good run blocking line and decisive backs seems foolish, ESPECIALLY when we only need 2 or 3 yards!  This ties in to an extent with my point about field goals, if you want to go for it on 4th and goal from the half yard line, pound the rock!!!! Trying to get too clever for our own good denied us certain points and yardage that in the scheme of things, would have at worst had us tied up in the last minute.

Coverage on Sanu... what on Earth? He is a useful receiver, but there really was not much else in the way of receiving threats, so I have no idea how he was beating the coverage down field with such ease. Franks and Brooks are young, but c'mon, there were some rather poor plays defensively - most notably, that down field heave completed on 3rd and 10 in the last 3 minutes.

Matt Elam, make your tackles for goodness sake. Far too many misses. Someone teach that man how to make a form tackle. The overall level of tackling in the NFL is a joke, perhaps teams should watch how to make a form rugby tackle.

Anyway that's my rant. I expect we will bounce back and certainly won't write the season off, as we did some good things and fought well. Cincinnati did next to nothing for most of the game, and through a few blunders were able to score 3 of their touchdowns. That is VERY frustrating! Asides from the end around, the bobbling catch by Sanu that was nearly an interception and that deep catch by Sanu at the end, we rarely looked challenged. I hope #22 is OK, I doubt that last play happens with him on the field.

Onto Pittsburgh. Go Ravens

From that other view, I'm going to say that it should have been a "let the players play" situation, but did the ref have that view?

Honestly came on here just to ask you that.. Just saw it myself while at work and about wrecked my forklift...

WOW

Oh yeah! I almost forgot! How about the way the secondary covered Greg "Stone Hands" Little? Lol. He looked pretty good out there. That's how you know it was bad. He almost had a TD if it wasn't overthrown. He caught 3 receptions, which I think is as many as Jacoby Jones has all year.

So "incidental" is Flacco already down on the ground and the guy grabbing his head like it's a football? lmao

If you read my other posts, you'd see that I thought it was incidental and was unaware it was ripped off. My bad.

Hahahahahahahaha.

Lets see. The Bengals have a record of 4-2-1. We're responsible for two of their victories. If we had

beaten them both times as we should have, their record would be 2-4-1. Not

counting their two games against us, their record is a mediocre 2-2-1 Now who's or what's laughable, Mr. Poe?

But they didn't lose, so they are good. If its and nuts were candies and nuts................

  1. getting away from the running game when we were running the ball with ease, is .....

secondary needs to tightin up

they could've spread the bengels and ran it on 4th and goal.

under-utilizing TEs/juice

harb needs to stop going for on 4th down and take the points, he has cost us about 4 games since last year.

It isn't as though the Ravens wouldn't lose another game, but this had a slight sting (over it). the Bengals have the Ravens number until proven different.

Lack of depth! Losing quality starting cbs two years in a row (Carey Williams, Corey Graham) hurt the secondary. So, the Ravens defense is in trouble unless they are able to apply pressure. Losing Jimmy was a big loss and shows that even at their best when healthy the secondary is just borderline good. Franks got picked on; the Bengals knew where the weakness was.

@Mili

It was a statement game from the Bengals.

Who, to be fair, kinda needed one.

Game was very winnable. It's a shame it came down to a blown offensive PI call (flop), but if they play better from the start it isn't even a factor.

Defensive line was getting pushed back too easily--that ultimately lost them the game.

The 4th and 1 goal line passing play was a poor decision/poor execution (should have learned from the Colts game).

Flacco's first interception was just ridiculous. He also had some easy check-down passes and/or running room to get first downs on some plays, but he opted for difficult down-field passes

Dean Pees' soft coverage allows for easy completions. Dominique Franks looked just like Cary Williams with the way he surrendered first downs, and Darian Stewart is too slow to help over the top. It didn't help Jimmy was out, of course, but Pees' defensive system is going to allow easy completions underneath, that's just the way it is.

Counted 6 long passes in the GB/NO game that had worse and more noticeable push offs than steve smiths

Don't blame the refs though
