Is Joe Flacco Becoming a Good QB?

700 posts in this topic

This is so true!  I'm definitely not a Flacco-fanboy!  Neither am I a Flacco-hater!  My critique of him is due solely because he touches the football every single play and has to make the proper decisions with it.  And, for the most part, as he goes so goes the Ravens offense!  However, he also needs his WR's, TE's, RB's and O-line to do their part as well.  I watched Ravens Wired and on the Ravens first TD drive...I heard where Joe told Steve Smith Sr; "Win for me Steve!"  He was talking about one of the slant routes.  And, then on a 3rd & 6 play...Joe said; "Let's get the first down....Torrey!" And he tossed the ball to Torrey over the middle.  That little bit of exchange between Joe and his receivers impressed me tremendously!

My favorite quote of Joe on Ravens Wired was at he the end and he was hoping to get "this little midget (Forsett) another TD"  I thought it was hilarious to hear him joke around like that, but was also impressed at how he wanted to get his teammate another TD and how he explained that they only had one shot before taking a knee.  That whole show was good to watch as it dispelled a lot of the Flacco hate around him not being a leader.  Yes he is quiet (he says at one point to someone that he does not say alot during the game) but he does lead by his toughness and coolness under pressure.

Yup.. Great minds do. I wish we would just hand off the ball when joe starts to have a rough day passing....

He needs more easy throws to get him going. He's a rhythm passer first and foremost. And more throws on first down.

Receivers and him need to get on same page about hot reads when the blitz comes too.

dude I'm talking about his career. You are going out of your way to bash Joe for no reason. No I wasn't basing Ray rice. But he does have a fumbling problem in the Postseason but that don't mean he was trash, just like Joe throwing a pick doesn't mean he's trash. Steve smith had a hot start and tailed off. And what use is pitta now for Joe. What are you even talking about. Now if you don't think the parts on this team were better during our super bowl run idk what to tell u. It's not the same as matching the stats with the other player. Joe hasn't had pitta virtually since the super bowl, his top WR gets traded. The LT get traded during the season the center retires and we have the worst o-line in the NFL. Now this season he gets a new OC, loses his RB, gets Steve smith (who himself said he was coming in as a number 2) loses Pitta again, loses his LT for a couple weeks again, yet is still having a decent season. And has us in the playoff hunt AGAIN.

You have been too spoiled.

you was talking about that 4 game run lol.

you quoted me when i was talking about that 4 game run and you said he had better pieces on that run then he has at this very moment.

that was the whole discussion.

i even compaired the pieces he had on that run with the pieces he has now.

also again i wasent bashing flacco.

i said i expect him to do better then what he has shown so far.

SMH that people consider that bashing these days.

they expect elam to play as an all pro.

expect upshaw to be an elite pass rusher.

expect torrey to be on the same level as aj green and such , its all fine and legitimate critism.

but when someone even mentions that flacco should play a lil bit better its considerd bashing hahahahha

hell some here even wants to put flacco in the same class as brady and manning saying that weapons are the only things that seperate them.

this board is always good for a laugh lol

the homerism is real.....

Well I sure would like to see Joe with some top echelon wide receivers and tight ends.

How much would his stats and our winning percentage go up if we had Dez Bryant, Gronk,

Jimmy Graham type talent?

Joe has NEVER had that type of talent around him .Boldin came close but his best years were really

in Arizona.Even SteveSr. is not as fast as he once was.

Look at the redheaded flameout Dalton. He has Sanu and Aj Green to throw to.

If thier is a debate it means he is not that good or that bad. Inconsistent and average. Bert Jones was never talked about or had the controversy...and he followed Unitas for heavens sake. Before Bert tore up his shoulder he and Staubach were considered the best two Qbs at the time in the NFL and won the NFL MVP in 76.

Maybe, just maybe, there's a debate because people are frustrated because they know how great Joe Flacco can be and they see his potential? Not all debates are negative. Some people just hate on Joe, that's true. But there are some people here who I believe think highly of Joe but get frustrated because they have seen his potential and greatness and sometimes he just doesn't live up to it. I'd classify Mili and 1/28 in the latter group.

I don't know how many times I've said this but this is completely true. Flacco can kill any defense when he had a rhythm. A #1 WR for Joe is a guy who can get him into that rhythm. That's what we need here. If we had an Antonio Brown WR, we'd be set. That's the kind of guy we need for Joe. I'd take an Antonio Brown over a Julio Jones, honestly. That's not a knock on Julio either.

I think most of us are in that group. The group than further splits into two sub groups.

Group A argues that Joe himself is the reason for his inconsistencies due to inconsistent mechanics, sometimes questionable decisions, and not being able to read blitzes or defenses as well as his pay grade says he should.

Group B argues that while Joe isn't perfect that 90% of the solution falls not on the quarterback but on his help.

The truth is that both groups are right, and that Joe Flacco is and will forever be Joe Flacco.

And I'll take him as he is every Sunday now till he retires because to me he personifies Baltimore and he's a fighter, a quiet competitor, an underdog.

"It aint always perfect, and it aint ever perfect, but it's us" . Same applies to Joe.

A receiver like Brown who can get open and make explosive plays, or a big target like Graham that he can just chuck it up to when no one is open and he's being blitzed. Completely agree.

Yeah, I agree. I think most are as well. I just singled them out because I think some see them as haters, which I don't believe.

hes never had 2 good tight ends so i don't know how you make that assumption

Boldin was basically a TE lined up vs Lbs, slot corners. SF consider him a TE in thier offense but is listed as on the roster as a WR. But he doesn't have the speed or moves of a WR, more of a hybrid WR/*TE

the same boldin that ran as many go routes as torrey smith in their time here?

Boldin was used incorrectly for all but four games, and even then he wasn't used as a tight end.

I agree. Joe has stretches when he looks awesome and in rhythm..the potential and arm is obvious...but the consistency isn't.. No doubt he has the TALENT, but Kubs admitted this week he had to peel the offense back. In my opinion, Joe might be intelligent, but not football bright. It's the mental part that makes players stars. I like Joe, thier isn't a better option. He to me is a middle of the pack guy.

I agree and that's my point. In Joes playoff run Boldin was basically a TE. That got him the contract and he

xcelled. He had Pitta and Boldin vs smaller guys and TS eand Jones as wideouts and Rice and Leach as

checkdowns during the playoffs. Once Pitta went down this year and only having Daniel's Joes effectiveness will level off. They need to get Gilmore more up to speed over the bye and splash Juzcyk in the mix as well. Yes, Boldin for YEARS was not used effectively for his skillset in Baltimore. Had Talib not got hurt in the AFCCG we might not of won the SB. Also Dickson was more reliable in the postseason than the regular season and had to be accounted for.

It was brought up and discussed on the Vinny and Rob show today. Vinny just read between the lines, vinny is critisized by some but usually spot on with reguard to the Ravens and NFL.

Vinny is actually regarded as an idiot by many.

And no, nothing Kubiak said even hinted at it. I think it's funny that you attributed it to Kubiak first, and now you're saying it came from Vinny. Cool!

Next it'll be Toluca was reading between the lines as to what Vinny said. Then, it came from the giant Raven in the sky

That's your opinion on Vinny. But, he usually calls it like it is. He has a track record of success over his career. His days in Washington didn't go well, but who does with Snyder? He got them to the playoffs about as high as you can go with that ownership.

Vinny's idiocy doesn't stem from his actual ignorance or ineptitude. His idiocy stems from his arrogance and belief that he knows everything about every situation. Because he thinks he knows everything, he makes a lot of idiotic statements that have little to no basis in fact.

Bottom line Joe is solid, not a star. Even Mark Rypien had a great postseason run and won a SB. Joe is like Nick Markakis a decent player but not a star or game changer. Thier are no better alternatives.

Markakis isn't a star... right... just a Gold Glove winner. This is a football topic but can I point out that Markakis has just two errors in the past three seasons? Yup, just a decent player. Oh my.

Credibility out the window.
