Is Joe Flacco Becoming a Good QB?

700 posts in this topic

Do you really believe that Joe Flacco is a reliable quarterback? Or are you just defending him for the sake of it? Or do you think underthrowing every, single, deep route and overthrowing 1/3 short throws is great quarterback play? I'm confused.

reliable? yes. consistent? no. how is he not reliable? he is a game manager at the very worst and a good one at that, at his best, he is a top 10 qb who has an extreme, undeniable knack for coming through in the clutch.

he has his moments thats for sure, but many qb's do, now he may have his off moments a little more often than some of those top tier "elite" guys, but that doesnt make him a bad qb, he is just a notch or 2 lower than a top tier qb who carries his team.

I wonder why we even talk about Joe, he isnt a superstar or even close, he makes dumb plays and good plays, he wont make the playoffs for the second straight yr, hopefully we clean house now and start the process for replacing him and harbs.

And this is why fans don't run franchises... because there's no reason to do any of those things. Good franchises simply don't overreact that way.

I don't get the doom & gloom at this point. We're a 1/2 game out of first place and I think our secondary, while not fantastic, just played the best of the season with new players still catching up and adjusting plus some new wrinkles in coverages.

Its just fan overreaction. They think the solution to every problem is to rebuild or cut people.

Thankfully, people who run successful businesses don't see things the same way.

There are a lot of folks on this forum who need to take a chill pill - or 12!  We are fine.

Is Joe Peyton? Nope.

But is he a Top 10 QB - yep.

Did he win a Super Bowl for us?  Yep.

Have Joe and Harbs CONSISTENTLY gotten us to the playoffs?  Yep.

Stop your moaning and groaning and be thankful for what we have in this team and organization.  Or better yet, commit to rooting for the Jets or the Bills or the Jags or the Bucs and let me know how that works out for you. Do you not realize how many fans wish their guys made the playoffs even once in the past 6 years??  We did it 5 freaking times!

OK....now go smile and be happy.

GO RAVENS!

I always said that if Joe won a super bowl I'd love him as a player.  And he did, so I'll back him until we have a Peyton/Andrew Luck scenario.  If we ever have a season of just 2 wins then yeah, I might want to move on.  Until then he's my guy.

Or I have 6 years of prior data to back my claim...as long as the talent is adequate around him, especially since 2010, the bigger the game the better he plays.

So...Sunday night vs. the Steelers and playing the Bengals for the division lead weren't big games?

See the adequate team part.

And while big for regular season games, I was referring to playoff games.

Pretty much the same thoughts I have on it. I'd love to see some of the Ravens fans complaining about how awful our quarterback, team in general is, and how bad the coaching is to a Raider's fan or a Buccaneer's fan, or a Jaguar's fan, or Redskin's fan. They would happily trade places with you right now. They would love a team where even when things go wrong, still wins more often than it loses.

And yes, let's get rid of our quarterback, the one who even Patriot fans don't want to face off against in the playoffs, to bet the farm on a rookie quarterback... because the last few rookies that got starting jobs have just lit up the league.

Joe is to inconsistent to be considerered "good". You never know which one will show up. He needs two TEs for intermediate plays to open up his game.

Peyton Manning needs a clean pocket and weapons to operate at the level he does. I guess Tom Brady needs an offensive line to be considered a HOFer, since he was trash the first couple games this year. I mean, the good Tom Brady didn't show up until his line protected him... Just an example of your deeply flawed rhetoric.

Every QB needs weapons and tools to be good. It's ridiculous to imply otherwise.

I don't know how much Joe has evolved over last 7 years and 3 offensive coordinators, but I don't know why we have these threads every year that start off like "Flacco is finally elite" or "Joe top 10 QB", and then he has maybe 2 or 3 bad games, and we (used loosely) hit the panic button again.

There is nothing wrong with him being just classified as an above average franchise QB.

This is so true!  I'm definitely not a Flacco-fanboy!  Neither am I a Flacco-hater!  My critique of him is due solely because he touches the football every single play and has to make the proper decisions with it.  And, for the most part, as he goes so goes the Ravens offense!  However, he also needs his WR's, TE's, RB's and O-line to do their part as well.  I watched Ravens Wired and on the Ravens first TD drive...I heard where Joe told Steve Smith Sr; "Win for me Steve!"  He was talking about one of the slant routes.  And, then on a 3rd & 6 play...Joe said; "Let's get the first down....Torrey!" And he tossed the ball to Torrey over the middle.  That little bit of exchange between Joe and his receivers impressed me tremendously!

This has been an odd day. I agreed with 1/28/01 AND Mili in a Flacco thread. Am I okay? Lol!

Not too odd. They are both harsh critics, but they are rational and not overly unfair.

Damn!  There goes the neighborhood!  Lol!

Exactly!  Besides, I call it as I see it!  When Flacco or anyone else does well, I'll give credit but when he or others play trashy in my eyes; I'll blast'em.  Equal opportunity!  No one is above it and no one is immuned to it!

So he was sober? Give it a little while

I don't drink so you must be speaking of 1/28/01.  Lol!

You wouldn't think it would be that difficult to grasp this concept.

I try to beat this to death. The only quarterback I can say I've ever seen perform well with subpar conditions was Andrew Luck in his rookie season

boldin, mason, Ray rice, Dennis pitta, are all better than we have right now.

im 1000% sure mason wasent on the team during that SB run lol.

boldin hasent preformed better then steve smith at all.

boldin avg 62 catches 881 yards and 4.6 TD per season with the ravens

smith has  49 rec  728 yards and 4 TD in 10 games so far.

better hmmm doesent seem like it.

wherent you bashing rice for fumbling every 25 touches?

not saying he shouldnt get more respect, but when brady isnt doing great he gets every excuse in the world, when the pats were struggling earlier this year, analysts made excuses for him, the OL, the WR's, the running game isnt holding up, the defense is letting them down etc etc.

all the problems that joe had last year and at times this year, but its constantly because joe flacco isnt good enough, not because the team is letting him down. and i know there are plenty of times where joe lets the team down, but its not as often as many like to think.

also bradys 3 sb's came with elite defenses and very good running games, they werent always an "air it out" team.

its funny that people claim that but for the last 2 SB wins brady threw for 6th most passing yards in 2003 and 10th most passing yards in 2004.

in 2003 he was 10th in passing TD and 2004 he was 6th.

in 2002 he actually threw the most TD of any QB.

sure people love making excuses for brady and sure he doesent deserve all the credit.

But lets be fair here.

The man has earned it.

He has been a top 10 QB since 2002.

Thats more then 10 seasons of consistency.

A 4 game stretch doesent compare to a  over 10 year career lol.

They arent in the same class by a long shot.

Joe is Joe....

I don't care for comparisons, but if you really wanna go there: Joe Flacco is a lot like Joe Flacco, and with a little bit of Joe Flacco mixed in. Somedays, he plays like Joe Flacco, other days, he can play like Joe Flacco. There's always a Joe Flacco-esqe element to his game. Most of the time though, he's like Joe Flacco.

And when you least expect it, he'll pull a Joe Flacco.

And then when you least LEAST expect it, he'll rip you a Joe Flacco.

Great minds think alike

If thier is a debate it means he is not that good or that bad. Inconsistent and average. Bert Jones was never talked about or had the controversy...and he followed Unitas for heavens sake. Before Bert tore up his shoulder he and Staubach were considered the best two Qbs at the time in the NFL and won the NFL MVP in 76.

dude I'm talking about his career. You are going out of your way to bash Joe for no reason. No I wasn't basing Ray rice. But he does have a fumbling problem in the Postseason but that don't mean he was trash, just like Joe throwing a pick doesn't mean he's trash. Steve smith had a hot start and tailed off. And what use is pitta now for Joe. What are you even talking about. Now if you don't think the parts on this team were better during our super bowl run idk what to tell u. It's not the same as matching the stats with the other player. Joe hasn't had pitta virtually since the super bowl, his top WR gets traded. The LT get traded during the season the center retires and we have the worst o-line in the NFL. Now this season he gets a new OC, loses his RB, gets Steve smith (who himself said he was coming in as a number 2) loses Pitta again, loses his LT for a couple weeks again, yet is still having a decent season. And has us in the playoff hunt AGAIN.

You have been too spoiled.
