I think we need one more receiver

215 posts in this topic

I feel we need one more receiver to be one of the favorites to go to the super bowl. I really don't trust Torrey to produce game in and game out, and the only real dependable receiver we have is 35 years old. I think we need to make a trade for a good receiver on a losing team to really go deep into the playoffs. Maybe a Vincent Jackson or someone of that type of talent. The broncos look to have the AFC home field locked, but they have no run game whatsoever. Last time we played them in Denver in the playoffs it was about 10 degrees. We all know Peyton plays different in the playoffs and colder climates. Although their Defense has improved drastically, I think the AFC championship game will be in Denver.

I feel like Kamar Aiken and Michael Campanaro are dependable receivers. Plus you have Daniels and Juice who can also catch. The offense has a lot of weapons. I don't think there's room for anyone else.

No one available the right price.

Torrey is trending the right direction.

Like our young guys in Brown, Aiken, and Campanaro.

If anything, we could use some more depth at offensive line. While the two rookies are playing ok for rookies, not sure I'd trust them come playoff time if someone went down again.

If Flacco's throws were consistent on Sunday he would have had another big day, even though Atlanta's defense made us look predictable.

One bad throw...one bad route by receiver...all other throws that weren't completed were either A. dropped B. thrown away intentiionally or C. thrown while running for his life

I would love to get another guy like Vincent Jackson. He's a very big bodied pass catcher who can stretch the field (a better version of Torrey Smith), but I also would have loved Percy Harvin because of how dynamic he was.

What was stopping the Ravens for offering a conditional 2015 pick for Harvin or Jackson? Money. Those teams (Bucs, Seattle) are likely trading them with money being a really big reason, and Harvin being a head case. Now, it's entirely possible to pull off a deal with the Bucs where they agree to eat some of his cap space to get a pick in return, but unlikely since they're likely trying to free up cap space

Dre, Fitz, or VJax.

VJax would be the most likely as the Bucs, with only 1 win, are in rebuild mode... not in win now mode. Cap wise, he'd be the cheapest too. We have $6,037,974 in cap space. Jackson will take up ~5M in cap space if he's traded for right now. He'll cost only 840k next year and won't have any guaranteed money left on his contract. Please get this done.

VJax/Smith/Smith? Our offense would be insane. I'm sure the fans in Pittsburgh would love to see him again too.  :D

And we all know how stingy Ozzie is with the draft picks (rightfully so). I would love a big bodied WR though....still waiting on that one Ozzie promised at the beginning of the offseason >:-O

If we're talking a conditional fifth round pick that could become a fourth rounder in 2015, and a pick in 2016, I'd pounce so fast it would make your head spin

If it were somebody we could realistically sign long-term...sure. If it's a one year rental, its a waste.

If you want a VJAX or somebody like that, you better be able to come up with $6-7M in salary cap space for next year and several years after to make that deal.

1. Nobody knows who is available, and for what price except the people in the Ravens FO.

2. You say Torrey is trending in the right direction, but he got a last minute TD in a blowout win because our Long snapper tore his ACL.

3. I like some of the young wide receivers to, but Joe needs someone who has done it and done it at high level. Not undrafted free agents who are trying to find their way.

4. I actually feel safe about the o-line than any other position on offense. Positions that I feel need more help than o-line are,

tight ends (If Owens goes down who will replace him?), Receivers (if Steve Smith goes down who will replace him?)

Besides Steve Smith, who can consistently get open with their route running and catch the ball. All you did is just name our receiving corps.

This is really a moot point because we're almost at the Trade Deadline and I don't see any WR being available that would be an upgrade. We have a solid WR corps that are playing well and trending upward. This conversation will be of importance in the offseason/draft when we have a realistic chance at another WR.

Torrey was a 1/2 a yard from scoring earlier in the game.

Changed the order b/c Jones belongs at the end of the list right now.  But no, you didn't miss anyone.

Realistically, it's not gonna happen.

Smith Sr. is playing lights out. Daniels is turning into a gem himself with Pitta out. Torrey is starting to catch balls. Joe has his 5-6 yard guy in Juice. I'd rather see us give reps to Camp and Aiken.

Maybe next year, sure.

And "if "Ifs" and "Buts" were candy and nuts, what a Merry Christmas it would be!" Our QBs name is

Cool Joe, not Flacco. His throws were consistent for the most part. Some of the passes he threw were

right on the mark and were dropped as you no doubt forgot. If our defenders could learn how to catch balls that are thrown right at them and intercept them, Cool Joe could have had another big day. Oh,

that's right! Haloti Ngata still leads our team in picks with two. Would you call Ben Rothlisberger's game last night a big night? The 24 points Spittsburg scored in 3 minutes were gifts from the

Houston offense to Spittsburgh's defense. If your post wasn't so ridiculous, it would be laughable. I can see why you call yourself Smoke, Calvin! You're just another Flacco-hater, huh?

I dont want an in season trade for an old receiver. WE have done that for a while now. If there was ever a time to hoard draft picks and hope Ozzie goes with an Alabama player it is next year. I want Amari Cooper wearing purple and black next year.

We're good for this year at least.  It's not the best it could be, but we have a pretty nice group that is starting to come together.  Torrey is finally finding his stride a bit more and we've seen some nice contributions from Brown, Aiken, and Campanaro in recent weeks.

Next year though, I agree.  It's important to add a long term piece to Joe's arsenal.

I think we can afford to trade some of our players. Specifically, Benard pierce, Art Brown, and to a lesser extent Matt Elam, now that we have Will Hill back. Let's grab some picks to move up in next years draft.

1: there is no one realistically available this close to the deadline, and no one who doesn't come with a high price tag of salary cap hit, draft picks, or both.

2: Statistically he is trending upwards. there is no argument there. The point that it was 4th down with no long snapper is irrelavant. Look at the stats. And he's clearly getting open more and making more catches. Torrey has shown throught his career the ability to push himself further to become better, and he's clearly doing that. A mental mistake on his part cost him an easy touchdown as well, that if was made would have provided even more evidence.

3: Last time I checked, Torrey was part of a Super Bowl winning offense, and Smith is a seasoned veteran. Jones is struggling but is a homerun waiting to happen, Brown has shown he can be a threat, and Aiken and Campanaro are both striding well. At tight end we could be better but I like Daniels, and I want to see more of our young talent and wait to draft another TE next year.

4: See point 3. Also, i don't understand you're opinion on the offensive line. They've struggled in the past 8 of 12 quarters to keep Joe upright. I acknowledge for the situation, two rookies on the left side, it could be worse. But come playoff time, Having a more experienced reliable back up would ease my worries some.

Plus this late in the season to add another receiver who has to learn the system and develop the timing and chemistry with Joe...I just don't see it happening, nor is there any reason we need it. The offensive line, once healthy, will help tremendously, plus the offense and the passing game aren't really struggling with the current group. I feel like SMith Sr would be a huge loss, but there's nothing to do except pray for the best. The continued reliance on the running game is important to keep pressure of the passing game and keep Smith healthy for the long haul.

Nah i like our young WR nucleus. BUT...for a title run. I think we would need another target.

Remember 3 things...

1. We have some youth at WR we could offer in a trade...even though player for player trades are rare in the NFL.

2. We have an extra late round pick..what looks like a 6th because of McClain..so maybe Ozzie would more willing to movie a 4 or 5th round right now. Im sure a V jax wouldnt take more than a 3rd or 4th.

Hell, we'll give you a 5th and one of Marlon, camp or Aiken

3. Id much rather have a TE. Before Pitta went down..Flacco look extremely comfortable spreading the love. I dont think Crockett will give him that same confidence. I just dont know what TE's would be available.

Who is this infamous Ed Dixon? Is he related to Anquan Boulden?

I think he's a cousin of Jarvis Laundry.

Torrey is inconsistent. He is in inconsistent in catching passes and getting off the line. That's why he usually catches about 3 passes per game, for a number 2 receiver that's pretty bad. As far as the trade goes, I know it isn't as likely in football, but i'm pretty sure you don't know whats going on in the ravens FO. You don't know who is available and who is not.

I would agree, there are teams out there with some really good corners in the AFC(IND, NE, I would say Denver but Talib is probably still too busy icing up ;) ). Davis did a pretty good job taking SS out of the game and Revis is certainly capable of doing that as well. So if that happens what do the Ravens do? Torrey would have some better matchups but he has been inconsistent and is more a big play guy as opposed to someone you can count on week in and week out. Jacoby is more a splash guy as well. Daniels is good but I don't know if we give him enough volume and similar problem with Juice. Aiken and Camp could turn into those guys but it is still too early to tell. Pitta would be really nice but he is injured. I feel a consistent complimentary guy who the defense would have to deal with would help the offense in those situations. With that said I don't think it is something we solve this season unless Aiken or Camp develop, or Marlon gets on a roll again so maybe it is something we address once the draft rolls around(as well as getting the guy to eventually be our future #1).
