Official vent thread vs Falcons

Joe made a few mistakes, but even Jimmy and CJ did as well so I won't come down too hard on him for them. People are underrating how well the Falcons secondary played at times. The reality is that good players make good plays at times. Difficult concept to grasp I know.

Holding Julio to 56 yards off 5 receptions was great, especially considering 25 or so of them came in the 4th quarter (yes people, those were garbage time stats. We're not the 1985 Bears so calm your expectations). At first glance I'd say defensively we stepped up exactly as I said we should: shut him down, flood the backfield and let Ryan make the mistakes.

Another bright side was Torrey Smith. He's looking a lot more comfortable in this offence and we're starting to get some pretty lethal plays out of him.

My worries for next week are James Hurst and the playcalling on third and short. As well as just getting beaten by his rusher, Hurst looked like he got confused by the looks the Falcons gave him at times, and that's something you can bet money the Bengals and Steelers will try to cash in on. And for the love of Ozzie I want us to get a bit more creative on those third downs with less than two to go. It feels like we always use a draw play up the gut and it's getting painfully predictable. I'd like to see plays designed to have the runner bounce outside, or have Joe roll out of the pocket or hit a guy like Campanaro on a quick slant.

If Hurst is playing next week , they better give him some help against the Bengals

I think we brought Monroe back in a limited role this week so we can bring him back in full against the Bengals. That's my opinion though.

I really hope that's what happens. I have a one-game theory that says players take one week to get back to game speed after coming back from injury (so basically expect a down game from players on their first game back). The good news is that it means I expect AJ Green will be underwhelming, but the bad news is that so will KO and Monroe if they play - although simply making the right reads will be enough of a boost in itself.

Will Jacoby just take kickoff returns now ?

I'll be surprised if someone else doesn't get the punt return job . .

He is working his way to a release after this season .

Cox out, that sucks.

BUT Doom, McPhee and Suggs were beasts. OD was a brilliant signing and looks more brilliant each and every week. Forsett, love him. Oline, held their own again with two rookies. Just imagine if KO and Monroe were in. Flacco, should have been smarter. Sill love Smittys grit. Torrey, average game. Needs to make the contested catches (on repeat there) and play with more fire. Sounds corny, but true. Will Hill, hi. I like you!

Edit - CJ, sorry...but I've come to expect greatness from you every week. Well done again!

No one really, besides 3 of Joe's throws. Everything was peachy for the most part.

2 of his throws and I can only actually vouch for one. The first INT clearly on Torrey & his less than average route running & positioning.

Didn't see one and the other I knew it was trouble as soon as it left his hand. Lobbed up for some reason.

aside from bad couple throws from Joe cooool, not helping Hurst side, and Jacobys indecisiveness, great performance by the D.

I felt they should have tried to get Jacoby involved in that last offensive series. He needs a confidence booster at this point & just doing returns isn't going to do that.

And just his first game back.  I know you shouldn't look ahead, but I'm excited for the Chargers game.  I think our defense will begin to look dominant by seasons end with Jernigan back, Will Hill getting more accustomed to the defense and Webb getting back to normal.  Asa should help as well.

I don't think people realize how big Morgans injury may be.  Hope he heals up and we can find a good replacement.

Poor clock management before the half led to a FG, instead of having a couple of shots at the endzone then settling for 3. I didn't mind Flacco not killing the clock at 26 seconds following that first pass near the 40. But after Torrey Smith catch he is tackled with 15 seconds left inside the 20 yard line. Call a timeout there we have at least 2 shots at the endzone then kick the FG. Rather than run to line of scrimmage look confused for 11 seconds then call a timeout.

Him returning punts didn't boost anyones confidence in him.  It seemed like last year he was making strides in his development and all that disappeared this year.  It really doesn't make any sense.

Ravens fans: Cornerback gives up 1 TD? Pees I terrible.

You can criticize pees but Boyd's of reason people. One touchdown in garbage time doesn't mean anything except the fact that Franks can't cover.

Defense played lights out overall. Overall a great game.

However, I still despise Pees conservative crap in any 2nd half we happen to have any kind of lead at all. One bad coverage by our secondary & then the Falcons would have been right back in the game. That does happen when you abandon your aggressive style and go into a soft mode.

I am, though, an equal opportunity basher in this case because Kubiak did the same conservative play calling too. Despise that lack of any put them away mentality on any side of the ball.

Jacoby. man, don't know. he's really pressing now & it is showing.

Agreed. Even in preseason he seemed slow & unsure. Not certain what is going on there.

How many INTs did we drop today?

3? 4? 5? lol

Jacoby...smh

Torrey still gets handled too easily by physical corners.

Seems like whenever a guy drops a TD, Joe has a tendency to make a bad throw/decision.on the next play.

The pass rush showed up today against another bad O-line.

Our guys in the secondary still don't get their heads turned around to look for the ball when they should.

Yet we won fairly convincingly, which shows how good this team could be once we get everything and everyone clicking.

Jacoby Jones I'm not sure what to say, the guy did have a decent kick return following the Safety. But he has just been pressing too much taking kick offs out the endzone and not reaching the 20 at least is always negative for me. I'm not sure the last time I saw him catch a pass on offense. With Campanaro and Aiken contributing on offense now, Jacoby is expendable on offense until makes a difference. He needs to get it together quickly.

Flacco may have made a few questionable passes ( I'm not a Flacco applogist ) but I'm putting both those picks on Torrey smith. The first pick I felt that Torrey should have saw the pass and fought off the defender either breaking up the int or making a play for the ball rather than flopping his arms around whiling running down the sideline watching the DB look like a WR. The second INT occurred the play after Flacco put a perfect pass leading Torrey into the endzone. Torrey couldn't catch it. The next play I guess Flacco said " hey they can catch a good one let me toss up floater ). Other than that Flacco was avoiding sacks pretty well by moving in the pocket.

Didn't watch the game. What happened with the second interception?

Luck by Atl. There were two receivers in the area but the DB got the ball anyhow.

Hurst is interesting. That's twice he played a good game protection wise and followed it up with a terrible game. Hurst was solid vs Carolina, Terrible vs Indy the next week, Solid vs Tampa, terrible vs Falcons. What's crazy is the 2 defenses that shouldn't have given him much trouble did. Would have thought M.Johnson in Tampa would have gave him issues.

Don't get me wrong, I love Steve Smith, but he can't be getting into it with the other players.  Fifteen yard penalties are the worst.

Disagree that they're the worst. Torrey drew that 30-yarder on our first TD. That would have been worse. :P

Hurst didn't do to swell, joe also. Jacoby Jones is killing us! Let camp return balls already. We can't afford that type of turnovers in a tight game. Defense played pretty good! Steve smith has to contain his emotions. Let's take it to the bengals next week!

The only think I have to vent is that I wish the game could have lasted longer.  Our game was like the first to end.

I was enjoying watching Ryan and the Falcons get harassed thanks to their total lack of depth across the board.

I dunno, Joe made a couple bad reads against a very good Falcons secondary and paid for it twice. No biggie really, since Joe made up for it with some really nice plays and our defense played lights out. Would I, as a Flacco fan, like him to have a Buccs or Carolina game again? Sure! But no QB is perfect all the time and this is really nothing worth discussing about here. Overall I am super excited how the WHOLE team looked recently. Too bad our schedule has been pretty weak recently. The Bengals will be a good test for us, imho.

He got his chances last week. He dropped easy passes. Last week, this week, every single week. His done.

Couldn't see the game so I have no clue as to what to vent about except that...I couldn't see the game!  Lol!

Great win!  5-2 and sitting atop the AFC North.  Time for some paybacks with those Bengals (who lost today) and to move on to 6-2.

GO RAVENS!!
