I am looking at YOU Jacoby....

Watch out! Jacoby's stars will be looking up for the rest of the season. He will be a huge difference maker starting with the Bungles...

I'm waiting for it.. It's coming

He's too much of a game changer to play this badly for an entire season..

He's gonna break one and I wouldn't be surprised if it was this week if given the chance to

Absolutely, but for some reason Pees does not like to play a lot of press coverage. I guess maybe some of our corners don't do well in press? I dunno, but I consistently see at least one corner 5-10 yards off the LOS.

And thats the rub...

Until probably a week or two ago, playing press coverage would have been disastrous for this secondary unit. Besides Jimmy, nobody on this defense was capable of pressing anybody, because they'd get blown right by. The idea of Webb in his first or second week back from injury or Asa Jackson or Chykie Brown playing press coverage would frighten me greatly as a Ravens fan, and that's excluding the inability to play proper coverage in the back end from guys like Elam and Stewart.

We may be closer to being able to do it now with healthier players and some better talent out there, but I'm not sure we are at that point yet.

Does breaking one absolve him off all the bad plays he's made so far?

He's no longer on offense b/c of all of his drops and he has what 3 muffed punts/kicks?

Not to mention some of the bad decisions he's made when he actually fielding the punts/kicks

His longest return to date is maybe 35 yds.  I know he's in a funk, but he definitely owes

the Ravens some of that contract money back.

He's had some decent returns recently..

One return doesn't cancel everything but I think it gives him much needed confidence and just good vibes..

That doesn't mean much to some players but I think he really needs it

If AJ doesn't play, I think we win based on our defensive play alone. If he does play and is a factor, then I can see it going either way

The expectation for Jacoby as a kick returner is and always has been too high to begin with...

Just because he had an incredible 2012 in the return game doesn't mean he's the kind of returner who's going to run 4-5 kicks back per season.

Remember, on average, even the best of the best kickoff returners are going to average around 25-30 yards per kickoff. Given that the overwhelming majority of kickers can put the ball into the middle or back of the end zone with a ton of frequency on kickoffs, you're realistically looking at maybe two kickoff opportunities per game that don't result in touchbacks (Jacoby had 31 KO returns in 2013, league high was 52, which is still three per game).

So in an average football game, Jacoby gets two cracks to bring the ball out, and he's likely to average between 25-30 yards per. That means, on an average day, when Jacoby attempts a KO return, we are still starting with the football around the 30 yard line...Adequate but not great field position, certainly nothing special. When you consider you get a free 20 on a touchback, he's adding somewhere around 10-20 yards per game in field position to our team on kickoffs. Significant? Yes. Special? Hardly.

Similarly, on punt returns, he's likely looking at about 1 return per game (had 19 last season), because he's not the only returner we use, punts kicked inside the 20, fair catches, etc. Historically, he averages about 10 yards per return there, which is very good, but again, not quite the "playmaking" stigma that he gets.

So, on a GOOD day, he's adding probably in the ballpark of 20-30 yards per game in field position to the football team. Some games that will be more, some games it will be less. Some games he will run one back, and some games he will muff punts.

.

No problem with having high expectations for a return specialist who contributes little else to the team. Those kicks to the middle or back of the endzone mean little to Jacoby, who rarely takes a knee, so only the kicks out of the back should be considered with him. And no, we don't expect him to muff punts like he has. I don't accept "sometimes he muffs a punt". That means maybe once a season for a guy who doesn't do anything else to keep his job on the roster aside from returning kicks and punts, but two already this young season is not acceptable.

Bengals injury report.  AJ Green is listed as doubtful to play. Chess move by Marvin Lewis he doesn't want to list him as out.  That  forces the Ravens to have to spend a little more time game planning for him just in case.

expect the usual flacco choke against the bengals

just remember 2 of those games AJ Green catches a fluky Hail Mary that kind of skews the numbers a little bit

In order for us to win, where do you think Flaccos pass attempts have to be? He threw over 60+ times in week one and obviously that can't happen again.

Hopefully we get a nice dose of Pierce/Forsett and even LT. I think the Bengals have been pushed to the back of the list in terms of run defense, right?

I would say in the mid 30s.  Anything more than that means Cincy shut down the run or we're playing from behind.

Truthfully I don't care if AJ plays or not, as long as our secondary plays like they're supposed to play without any blown assignments, then our pass-rush should be more formidable than last time. Even if he does play, put Jimmy on him and we should be okay from that perspective.

Whether or not AJ Green plays, he hasn't trained all week - which makes it three weeks since he last did anything meaningful on a pitch if memory serves.

I can't see him being the one to bust this open for them.

Time for a TE trade?

why? because our starting TE is down for a game or two? no need to give up alot for a starting caliber TE when Daniels is coming back. We can save our picks and players, we don't need to sell house to win a couple games. Its not panic time yet

My eyes and voice will be on Burfict's dirty moves.........

So will the officials I'd say. He's (deservedly) built himself a reputation so I don't think he'll be getting the benefit of the doubt much.

Burfict has already tried to hurt Joe with that out of bounds hit in the first game. That one did not go as he planed. He was the one injured on that try. The refs will watch him close. Not to worried about that knucklehead.

Time for a TE trade?

i doubt ozzie will trade for anyone right now, he loves his draft picks, i think they will use Juice more, increase gilmore's snaps, and give snaps to ryan taylor.

Nothing is ever easy or constant....... While I'm sure there is a plan B, we didn't need to go into this game without a proven TE. Damn!

I want to see KO and Yanda introduce the pancake to dirty burfict, want to see him laid out in the ground before he can get his dirty hits in.  Like the one on Torrey I believe, in week one!

He is the dirtiest player in the North since that one slimy Steelers WR retired, won't even says his name here!

"The best thing about AJ Green being out is that now everyone knows Andy Dalton is a scrub" - RSR

Made me laugh & thought I'd share.

We should win this no problem. Not saying it will be a cake walk but it should not be a nail biter either. Bengals are not playing good football right now and we are not playing that thing we did week 1 that we tried to pass off as football.

Or Burfict can just face Flacco's beer gut.  Worked the first time.

I think we should really turn up the heat on dalton, bring the house, leave mosley in the middle, brooks deep in the back, and  jimmy and webby on the sides, and we will have ints all day!  Cant wait for some sweet revenge on sunday!
