One problem with your theory of this being a good measuring stick and teams with bad records.

Week One: Loss to a 3-2-1 Bengals team

Week Two: Win against 3-3 Steelers

Week Three: Win against 3-3 Browns

Week Four: Win against 3-3-1 Panthers

Week Five: Loss against 5-2 Colts

Week Six: Win against 1-6 Buccaneers

Week Seven: Win against 2-5 Falcons

Combined the Falcons and Buccaneers have the same amount of wins as the Bengals. Our opponents coming up include another game with the 3-2-1 Bengals, 3-3 Steelers and 2-5 Titans. We are playing against a lot of bad teams somehow. The only winning team we have faced is the Colts. The next and LAST time we play a team with a winning record, Week 13 against the Chargers. After that, Miami(3-3), Jacksonville(1-6), Houston(3-3) and Cleveland(3-3) again.

I know the records will change by the time we play them but our whole schedule consists of playing bad teams. I don't even know if we will have that measuring stick game until we get to the playoffs where we may have to face New England and Denver for the first time. While potentially playing San Diego and Indy again.

You shouldn't break it down by what their record is now. You should break it down by their record at the time of playing the Ravens. The Steelers and Panthers both had winning records at the time, so it does make a difference

Agreed. We played the Steelers at their full strength. They have alot of injures now. Panthers too.

Here is a SOS chart also with current wins.

The Bengals forum is now in full meltdown. Some people are excited about the chance for the team to redeem themselves, but the main view seems to be that we're going to roll them and their season's over. There's even talk of needing to draft a top WR.

That's good stuff. Thanks for posting it.

I immediately looked toward the bottom of the chart to find Baltimore and then I was pleasantly surprised.

It really makes the Falcons look terrible. If I were a more compassionate fan than I am I would feel really sorry for Jacksonville.

Rule of thumb: you never want to play a team in their house the week after they have an ugly road loss. I almost wish they hadn't got blown out today.

True but this is the same Bengals team that after getting blown out in New England on national TV they went home and tied a terrible Panthers team.

The thing that gives me confidence is that, playing some of our worst FB we still tied the series at 1-1

If Monroe and KO are not back it could be a very tough day for the offense. I expect a similar game plan to how we started against Tampa in the road. Lots of running to the right where we are strongest. Kubiak will have to do a lot of game planning to move flacco around. The communication issues allowing quick free rushers we saw vs Atlanta will be a much bigger problem against this team.

On defense we need to run a different game plan to sit on all their short passes and screens. Take Bernard completely out of the game. If we can make dalton hold the ball and try to attack deep without green we have a big advantage.

I expect an extremely close defensive game here.

Ravens 23 Bengals 16

expect the usual flacco choke against the bengals

Haters gotta hate...I think I kinda like our QB who has 7 TD's in the past 2 games and has The Ravens on top of the Division.....but to each his own I suppose.....

And interestingly enough, if you flip all of our wins to the .500 teams around, in other words if we had lost against the Steelers, Browns, and Panthers (who are all .500 right now), then we would be 2-5, and would have lost against 5 teams who are all over .500!  So us beating them flipped the script from having played a very hard schedule to a very mediocre one.  If we had lost those games, instead our schedule would look like this:

Week One: Loss to a 3-2-1 Bengals team

Week Two: Loss against 4-2 Steelers

Week Three: Loss against 4-2 Browns

Week Four: Loss against 4-2-1 Panthers

Week Five: Loss against 5-2 Colts

Week Six: Win against 1-6 Buccaneers

Week Seven: Win against 2-5 Falcons

Starting the season on a 5-game losing streak against 5 teams with winning records!

Us WINNING makes a huge difference in how our schedule is perceived at this point in the season!

This game is a must win. Hate to call this a must win but you can't go down 0-2 to a division opponent. Right now Bengals are reeling and the pressure has to be put on from the word go.

Wow what weekend for us so far, the bengals get blown out and the browns lose to the jags.... I'm going to celebrate today! Go RAVENS!

Lets really cap off this weekend and see the Steelers get blown out by the Texans tonight!

Yikes! You gotta love the NFL at times. Brings the emotional side out of damn near everyone.

To be fair, it happens here after every loss...

Win or lose - it is how we play this game that will determine if we are still that pitiful road team we've been in the past.

Have to show up fast & aggressive. None of that pamby butt stuff we did weeek 1 against this team.

If our secondary continues to improve and our receivers can continue to catch passes like they have the last two weeks, this game is definitely one we can walk away with. My big concern is how the left side of our o-line is going to do. If we can get KO back, I like our odds a lot more.

Does Burfict have his third concussion inside 7 weeks? If so, doesn't he have to sit for a prolonged period of time?

He has a neck injury, not a concussion.

Is this true?

If he's out, that completely changes their defense

Huge huge loss

He was out the entire 2nd half against the Ravens in game 1 and they still held on to beat the Ravens.

If we can manage to jump on them early, their fans will start to squirm and home field won't mean as much.

Honestly our defense will be fine against them if we just pursue and make tackles. What really killed us in week one was the lack of hustle and thirst for contact. We played slow and soft on defense. Stopping the run on first down will be crucial, as will getting sacks early. Get this offense in 3rd and long and watch them implode.

Yeah but our offense was night and day with him out. He may have been a big reason why. Hes a complete jerk but he is very good.
