This! I was upset we did not even try to keep Miller. I trusted him enough to give him a 4 year deal. IMHO, the guy is the best reliever in baseball and I am sorry, but nobody is going to tell me that the 7th 8th and 9th innings are not important. To just let him go to out biggest rival..........unforgivable.

Miller had a good year... the guy is a failed starter and he may have found his calling but I don't really mind him leaving.

You guys act like this isn't exactly how all the other Duquette offseasons played out... This is who we are... I still think we can be better this year than last!

I love the O's despite all the bad..........I like that we only traded one good prospect for Miller and we have kept guys like Bundy. If Machado and Weiters can get healthy and play like they did before their injuries, I still like our chances. I have to be honest though it was a little disappointing losing Markakis, Cruz, and Miller and not picking up a decent bat or pitcher. That was three big losses, but I think Buck can win with what we have left. He is one of the best managers in the game.

Hopefully you still feel this way after we face the Yankees 19 times this year. It will be no problem as long as we have a nice lead going into the latter innings of every game so that we don't need any of these overpaid useless setup guys for which the Baltimore market is not ideal.

Nick isn't as big of a loss IMO, he's more of an emotional fan loss. Cruz played himself out of our budget, Miller too.

The Yankess needed a closer... He's going to be their closer. Zach is our guy (even though he faded in the playoffs) and he's much cheaper. We have guys that are capable of being a set-up man.

Good point, that the Yankees are likely to use him as a closer.

But I do worry about the back end of our pen ... not just Zach, but O'Day was frightening at the very end of the season and in the post-season. Gausman was great, but we used him in long relief. Hunter is, well, Hunter. Matusz can only throw to lefties and he's even had issues at the end of the season doing that.

Who am I forgetting?

Very emotional

But on serious note... We won't know what kind of a loss he is until we see who replaces him

The Yankees probably have the best closer in the league now. No offense to Zach, I love how he revived his career as our closer, but he is no Miller. Miller was worth closer money and by not signing Nick and Nelson, we could have spent it if we wanted to. Apparently, the O's ownership did not want to and he goes to our biggest rival. IMHO, it was a huge mistake. I will root for the O's, because I can't help myself, but I understand why O's fans are upset. We lost our #3 pitching prospect in Rodriguez, and I did not hear any reports that we even tried to retain him.

Who is the best closer in the league? miller ? LOL. How many saves does he have. People get emotionally attached to players, and no matter what ... They want them

I will be honest, I did get emotionally attached to him. I thought he was a beast and I truly believe that guy has the mental toughness to prove me right. I guess the point to my post was this: I think if we can stay healthy, and that is a big if because the last couple of years have not been kind to us, I think this team has what it takes to get back to the post season and once you get in, any team can get hot and have a few balls bounce your way and make a run at a World Series. I think losing Nick was a loss but I understand letting him go. Nelson was a big bat and we had a ball park for which he certainly commanded some respect. I like that we at least tried to retain him but in the end, he was expensive. Miller was the guy for me, I wanted to keep just one of the three, and I admit I REALLY liked that guy. It is what it is since I don't own the team. I just personally feel we took a step back and the Yankees, who were on our heels all season, took a step forward and the Red Sox seemed to go all in in free agency. I just feel like if you are going to own a MLB team you should at least try to get a little better each year. We lost three good players and only resigned the rest of our guys, which for me this season is going to come down to Matt and Manny. If they can overcome those major injuries and get back to how they were playing before they got hurt, we could once again make some noise. However, we are going to need both and them, so we are going to need the baseball god's to be nice to us injury wise and it wouldn't hurt if Bundy heals up and becomes the pitcher I think he can be the few games I watched him in Salisbury. I was just very disappointed with free agency this off season and for me - I find it therapeutic to my mental health to come on my favorite website and vent a little :)

Great post! I grew up on 33rd street. I was a a  junior Oriole (Much love to Greenspring Dairy!) If this situation continues and it comes down to  Pete the cheap, I have but one option. Fire his butt! Sure we were  nothing before him, but why was he out of work for 10 years before Angelos  took  a shoot in dark on a "Black Balled" G.M.  Look it up! Go Dan, a real Oriole would not put us through this! Hell, I'm used to losing, but I ain't no Angelos lover (Who is!).I am just tired of this and you  won't talk! One foot out the door Dan, low life! Only you can end this and......?????? Speak up man I just did!!

I am going to be honest with you after all those years of Peter being cheap and us being out of the race at the All-Star break and him refusing to put "Baltimore" on our away jerseys, I was done, D-O-N-E, done. When he allowed "Baltimore" to go back on the jerseys, I softened my stance and started going to the games again. I even bought some jerseys, hats, and magnets for the truck. I really thought with the fans coming back in support and the team back in contention, maybe just maybe, he would open his wallet a little. Seems I was wrong. I am very upset with Dan, even if he was unhappy (like me) that Pete is cheap, he signed the contract. You don't try to weasel your way out of it when something better comes along, that is not what gentleman do. I may not have a lot to my name, but I honor my obligations.

You sir, love the Orioles as much as I ever have! Your passion and the desire to see us win is with out question. I wish you could have been there on 33rd street. Oriole Magic was real and awesome! Sure, we lost some W.S. but we were there! To see the circus that is my team go on, year after year makes me sick!  I am proud to have you on my friend list, proud to have you stand feather to feather with me as one hell of an Oriole fan! Stay proud, stay loud, stay Oriole! All my respect, you rock it!!!

Few questions:

-Do you guys believe Duquette will leave for Toronto, and if so, what will the compensation for the Orioles be?

-Does anyone know how much money the orioles will have for the 2016 offseason?

-Any predictions for a crazy trade or acquisition before the offseason ends? And who do you think will have a big year this season?

No, I think the Duquette trade is losing steam. Not sure about the money for next off-season. I am thinking that with the Toronto distraction, we are not putting together any trades right now. I think we can still have a good season if guys heal and come back playing just as strong as before their injuries and we stay healthy this year.

I officially hate the Blue Jays as much as the Yankees now. Looks like they never really made an offer to the O's and it appears to me that they were just trying to disrupt the harmony in our F.O. and cause a big distraction for us during this free agency period. This situation is some serious underhanded bull crap and MLB should investigate this!

Eh.

Cool that he's still here and this can finally stop being discussed... Was hoping we'd get something for him. I hate how long it dragged out and I hate the idea of Dan having any type of hard feelings.

Impressed with 'ol Pete, though. Hopefully we don't stop and can file some type of tampering charge.

It's been building up for years but like others have said, Toronto is right up there with Boston & NY now

FYI, I see we just made a trade with the Pirates for OF Travis Snider. I hope he turns out to be as productive as Pearce, who also was with the Pirates. We traded LHP Stephen Tarpley (#9 prospect) and a player to be named later. Not an earth shattering trade but we could certainly use another outfielder.

Snider can definitely benefit from playing in a hitter's ball park.

My brother in law from Pittsburgh said he is also a great locker room guy.

DeAza is really over playing his hand. Just take the offer! Wow, it's not like we don't have a glut of outfielders and Buck will find a lead off hitter. For some one who said how much he wants to be an Oriole he sure ain't showing it.
