Orioles Off-Season 2014-2015

Rumors are all over the internet that Nick and the O's are close, also that some sources say the Giants really want him. I don't think he wants to leave us and don't think he will. He's a class act that at this point I think his decision will not be based solely on money. IMO.

Ehh... I'm not dead set on Matt or Nick... we need a better option as a lead off guy and we don't even know of Weiters will be healthy .

I would like to have them both back, but if it means shortcomings elsewhere... Ehh. To me, RF isn't a valuable position unless the offensive production is stellar. While Nick gets on base a lot, he's not a speed threat on the base paths .

Very happy for JJ & Adam. Hopefully Nick gets some serious consideration as well.

@masnRoch: Markakis ended season with 328 consecutive errorless games as an OF, just 8 games shy of Rich Amaral's AL record. 64 behind Darren Lewis

Why do people keep saying "bring back Davis/Wieters on 1 year prove it deals"? They aren't free agents guys, they're already under contract for another year lol.

As for my hope: would love Miller/Cruz/Markakis back, but someone is gonna pay Miller closer money, Cruz is 34 years old and i wouldn't wanna give him anymore than 2 years (he wants 4, no thanks), and i obviously want Kakes back, but I don't wanna overpay for him either, my guess is he gets brought back because Angelos loves him.  I wish we could find a trade partner for Ubaldo but thats never gonna happen lol.

Gonna need a DH (if Cruz leaves, wouldn't mind Billy Butler), some bullpen help, another (cheap) starter to push Ubaldo, and a corner outfielder for either LF or RF if Markakis does actually leave.

Very happy baseball got it right this year

Buck and Dan both deserved their respective awards.

Yeah, glad to see it was him and not Scoscia or Yost.

The AP is reporting the Tigers have resigned Victor Martinez to a 4 Yr. $68M contract. I am sure Nelson Cruz has taken notice and the bar has been set. I don't think the O's will offer a 4 year deal. They might but I think it's one and done for Nelson.

One good thing on the Oriole front. A.J. Burnett signed with the Pirates. Why the O's would want him is beyond me, but this is the same player who said no to us last year. He must be related to Pete, other wise let Dan tweak the team and go from there. The Playoffs were great, a title? Let's go get anther! O-R-I-O-L-E-S! Section 34 forever!

I swear I learn something new about baseball every year. I didn't know other teams can sign your players for a contract if they're not on the 40 man roster or whatever. We just moved 2 pitchers to our main roster. Guess we're scared to lose them.

It's the Rule V draft.  If a team chooses one of your minor leaguers in the draft portion (at a cost of $50K), they have to stay on the 25 man roster for the entire season.  If they don't, the drafting team is required to offer him back to his original team for $25K.  If the decline, the player can stay in the drafting team's organization.  The Rule V draft is how we got Ryan Flaherty and TJ McFarland.  In the years we picked them, they were on our roster the entire year.

I'll be so pissed if we give Markakis big time money. Anything over 10 million per year is silly.

Give him all the money

The source of our power

Jim Pressley to be reassigned. Oooohhh, a new hitting coach for Christmas?

Surprised..... Hopefully whoever replaces him gives us what Dave Wallace did for the pitching last season. I read Jim Thome is a candidate, that would be cool.

Funny comment I read: @tonycordwell: @danconnollysun someone with a background in cricket to personally work with Adam Jones?

Haha, AJ takes a lot of heat from fans, but he's a great ballplayer.

Time for the Orioles to step up and pay Miller and Cruz. You know the Yankees are next, now that their foe the Red Sox made a big splash. If you are in the AL East you have to spend. Do you hear me Peter...........please!!!!

Rumors are that Miami wants to upgrade at 1B and are willing to give up a top 30 LHP prospect to do so..... Names Andrew Heaney.....MLB has him ranked 18th overall.
