Orioles Off-Season 2014-2015

306 posts in this topic

Was hoping for a couple more weeks befor this became appropriate, but the wonderful 2014 season is now over.

Who do we re-sign? Who do we get to replace those we lose?

I hope we can get Miller and Cruz back.

I really want Nick back. I'm willing to sacrifice Davis if necessary.

Real happy that we have so many young guys. We could be good for years.

Copied over here for discussion

Exactly.  If we can find a way to bring Cruz back, we have...

C - Wieters

1B - Davis

2B - Schoop

SS - Hardy

3B - Machado

RF - Markakis

CF - Jones

LF - Cruz

DH - Pearce

That's one dominant lineup.

Cruz DH and find another LF

May have to trade a pitching prospect to secure a good LF since we don't have much in young OF talent

I'd like to see us get a good lead off man so we could drop markakis to 7th..

Idk I'll look at it more in depth down the road I guess

I think Gausman will either be the number 1 or 2 in the rotation at the start of next season.

Agreed.... Hopefully Dylan Bundy can pan out and eventually contribute to the rotation as well. Ubaldo coming back strong would be awesome too.

Extending Markakis and resigning Miller should be the two biggest priorities this offseason.

Miller won't be in an Os uni next year. He's going to be a closer somewhere for good money! Bank it

Miller would be great, but hes going to be expensive. I think its tough to spend that much money on BP guys.

I would rather spend money on DH (either bring back Cruz or sign Victor Martinez) than Markakis. De Aza can do a lot of things Nick does and offer some more speed as well.

Bring back Davis for one more year and hope he turns back into around the .850+ OPS guy. I would consider buying low on him for a long term deal too. He was really bad this year, but I think it was kind of fluky.

Lineup looks like:

De Aza RF

Machado 3B

Jones CF

Cruz/VMart DH

Davis 1B

Wieters C

Pearce LF

Hardy SS

Schoop/Flaherty 2B

Lough OF

Flaherty IF

Joseph C

Paredes?

Rotation:

Tillman

Gausman

Chen

Norris?

Gonzalez

Ubaldo?

Bundy by midseason

Pen:

Britton

Miller?

O'Day

Hunter

Matusz

Brach

Webb?

McFarland?

I know I'm a markakis homer but

Having de aza as our everyday lead off guy and having Pearce as a everyday player from opening day on and losing markakis

Would be a disaster

De aza and Pearce are bench role players... But I've already said and do agree we need to find a lead off man... Markakis and our lineup would benefit from him dropping to 7th

Gotta keep Markakis. Can't see him in any other jersey.

I think Davis will be gone here. It kinda sucks but his one huge season was pretty much it.

Cruz I am iffy about. What if he is just another Davis? I don't think so though.

Wieters I want him to retire an Oriole but I don't know if this is gonna be his last year here. He is my favorite player. I hope not. He can hit even if he aint catcher.

I am not the biggest baseball person here so I am just going to sit back and see what they do. They were right in a lot of things last year so hopefully they continue to build up and we get healthy next year. Having seen how long it took the Ravens to get that second one, it is not easy but if it were, it wouldn't mean all that much anyways. But we are in the best position we have been in for a long time so we just have to keep chugging.

I hope not, I love that guy. I would give him serious closer money!

They could use some speed on the base paths too.....I have doubts about them keeping Markakis but I hope they do.

Very happy to see Joe Madden opted out of his contract in TB. Bodes well for us in the long run not having to deal with him.

Top 3 manager in the league IMO with Buck & Bruce

Don't really follow the O's so was wondering what happened to that Dylan Bundy fella? I'm guessing he is injured. Is that the case? Or just not panned out yet?

1). Pay Nelson Cruz whatever he wants (3 years $50M)

2). Give Matt Wieters his contract extension. Sorry Nick Markakis but we need our game manger even more.

3) . Find a true #1 for the rotation. Tillman getting rocked in the ALCS was not good at all!
Felix Hernandez would be nice.

4). Get Angelos to open up his checkbook.

5). Give Nick Markakis at least one more year.

6). Try to Sign Andrew Miller but at a reasonable price.

I'm afraid Angelos will tell Dan to, "do it again"

Try and find the best bargain in FA and make the under the radar trades mid season.

I'm very confident Markakis gets resigned. I'd like to see Wieters get a 1 year, prove it deal, but I'm not sure his agent will go along with it.... Would be awesome to get an everyday LF in the lineup.... Our rotation is pretty much set. Ubaldo will get another try. Tillman, Chen, Norris and Gausman/Gonzo are locks. We got our role players, only a few missing pieces if everyone comes back heathy IMO.

I think you nailed this. Angelo's is the wild card in all of this and that's a little scary. Hopefully Dan can channel his "inner  Ozzie" and find a way to fill the voids that will need to be filled.   :plus-un2:

I'm hoping that Angelos realizes that he can make more money by spending more money, rather than being as cheap as possible.  Having a consistent contender would be so much more profitable.

That is an excellent point. Not only for the team and the fans but all the businesses in the area would benefit greatly from it. You never know with Pete, but it's way past time to show some love and not just for yourself!

I'm hoping the playoff run really made him realize that.  Ticket sales were obviously through the roof for the playoffs, and even at the end of the regular season.  Merchandise was flying off of shelves.  People were really into it.
