He didn't want to play here. How did we drop the ball? You can't force someone to play.

That's it with me!  The man didn't want to be here or play for the Ravens.  It's that simple.

Maybe but Rolando isn't an every down linebacker he's barely played 50% of the snaps for the Cowboys defense. I think he'd be a huge upgrade over Daryl Smith right now who's been horrible. Last year he wasn't good against the run but his coverage skills made up for it, this year he's been horrible in coverage and the run. Im not sure what the coaching staff has against Arthur Brown but I'm sure he can't be any worse than Daryl this season.

I don't think we dropped the ball per se, but you're flat out kidding yourself if you think Daryl is playing better than Rolando right now. Part of me wishes we'd have Rolando starting next to Mosley. That would be a hell of a tandem.

I think we gave them a really good player for really low value. I know that's all we realistically could have got for him, but it sucks that we gave them so much so little in return.

I don't think we dropped the ball so much as Rolando screwed us over and gave us no other options.

He gave us a 6th round pick

Everything that happened to Rolando kind of had to happen in order for him to be where he is.  The Sean Lee situation...the 3rd failed physical, the multiple offseason issues.  We took a lot of the mess and he and the cowboys figured out a way to clean it up.

Still perplexed as to why this is even a discussion... don't see when Rolando McClain would ever be on the field on this team.

I think its more of a case of fans seeing a 5-1 Cowboys team and assuming that everybody on their team is awesome. Clearly not the case. That defense has a LOT of very mediocre, borderline backup football players starting for them at the moment, and Rolando is very likely one of them.

That defense is playing really well right now.. You clearly haven't watched them

Personally I'm not a believer until the playoffs... Quite a few teams in the league can be regular season champs and cowboys are one of those teams. I won't believe until they win a playoff game and play well when it matters

How can we be sure he would have been as motivated and productive for us as he has been for the Cowboys? (so far, anyway)

At least we're going to get something for him in return for him giving us nothing.

Well, per what I heard on Mike and Mike this morning, the Cowboys are giving up the exact same number of yards per play that they were giving up last season... when their defense was historically awful.

The main difference being that they're getting less plays ran against them...

Knew this thread would pop up eventually... I'm happy for him that he's doing well and staying out of trouble. However, he clearly had no future here and you can't complain about getting something for nothing.

Question is. Would he have even been a starter for this team and would've he been willing to play special teams if not the starter. I just don't think we should've given up a 7th also to move up one round.

mcclain was a head case and he wanted to play for a team that was an absolute anarchy, he didnt want to play for an organization with an owner and head coach who cares, and instilled discipline when needed, and wanted to play at a place where it just wasnt required to be a high character person, because thats just not what he is.

cj mosley has been the best ILB in the league this year(top 3 at least) we are fine without him.

I think we did drop the ball, not in a bad way though, but we did.He has issues and we have no patience,we were and still deep with LB,that conditioning test I hear is a beast of a work out,I had thought when he wanted to come back we make him sit and try for a trade, I wanted him and CJ to play together, and for the record I wasn't completely sold on CJ,so I guess I do not know anything,,,

If he retired twice on the team how is that baltimore not showing patience?

first time he retired,he just got in trouble again, he went back to school him and saben worked together and when it was time to return he came back., what if he came in to that conditioning test what if john never came in to talk or was just short with him,who knows and for the record I am not saying this happened,,,, but there is a reason he wanted to come back and retire again, and yes he is a head case but who isn't,,,,,,,, the so called DOG HOUSE is real john puts players in and they never return,,

First, good for him turning his life and career around. Did we drop the ball? I don't think so. I can't help but feel the Raven's just weren't a good fit for him and am not sure he really wanted to be here. Dallas must have been a better fit for him in his mind and you can't blame him for doing what he thought was best for his life.

I feel when he came back the last time he realized he would not be the top dog. I think he feared the competition and realized he would not get the play time he wanted. So that was the " not a good fit for him " part. But Dallas needed a LB desperately. He was able to jump right in and become the GUY. No competition.

Just my thought.

No, the so-called "doghouse" is a fan generated myth that fans on these boards created to explain things that the FO does that they don't understand and convince themselves that they are right.

Its just not possible that Harbaugh or any other NFL coach might just know (or forgotten in most cases) just a little bit more about football than the combined knowledge of anybody posting on here (myself included).

Na, that's too truthful and realistic. Lets stick with the conspiracy... its more fun.

I put McClain in the same boat as John Simon and Bobby Rainey - they simply had too many players at those positions to fit the roster.  At least with McClain we get a 6th round pick.  Not sure why they couldn't work a trade with Simon tho'.

McClain was never a question of talent - he had it in spades - it was that his "10 cent head".  It may go deeper with McClain tho since Ozzie picked him up and dusted him off and gave him another shot.  Rolando may have been simply looking for a team closer to home or really decided he wanted to be a starter somewhere and Ozzie worked out the deal with Jerry.  I mean, they they had Daryl Smith, Arthur Brown and then drafted CJ Mosely - all at ILB.  How does that happen?  It seems that Ozzie is too good at selecting the Best Players Available.

The more he plays the better pick we get in return. Right?  GO GO Rolando!

Yes, but by my understanding, the best we can get is take their 6th rounder next year and give them our 7th. So no matter what he does, we're not getting much to speak of in return.

My main concern with Rolando has to do with how well he is playing. He is playing at a Pro Bowl level during a contract year while he is still young. If he continues to impress he's going to generate some interest in Free Agency. For a guy with his history of retiring and legal issues he's obviously a risk on a deal with term. I'm glad we're not in a position to be deciding whether to retain his services or not, I'll take the 6th/7th rounder gladly.

I don't know that we dropped the ball. He did not seem to want to play here in any case so why keep him around?

Done deal and at least if he does well we get a 6th rounder instead of a 7th.

Cowboys took him from us for dirt cheap.

He might be one of the key components in there defensive turnaround.

What was it our coaching staff did or didnt see in him?

It was have McClain disappointed us again, or get something for him.
