what happens to our division standings now?

32 posts in this topic

with the bengals having a bye before us, and them tying today, what does that do for our standing in the AFCN? technically how many games are we behind them now?

not that it really matters until the end of the season but its a confusing deal and id really like to know how much we are playing catch up now lol

We have more wins, so I assume we're in first place.

No, goes by win percentage. The Bengals have 3.5 wins out of five games. The Ravens have 4 wins out of 6. The Bengals lead the division and would win the division if both teams won out.

Per the ESPN standings, they are still technically ahead of us because they've win a greater percentage of the fewer games they've played... (70% to our 66%). It will all even out once we have our bye -- we just need to keep playing like we did today.

Going to be an interesting division with Cleveland showing it has some muscle, yet at the same time losing their big guy in the middle. Even when they win they lose.

No way both could ever "win out" since we still play them in a couple of weeks. But I agree with the rest of your post.

I didn't even think of that... Good call

Yup, technically we're second, BUT I wouldn't have it any other way at this point. Lookin' ahead, I'd like us to win 3 out of the last 4 games of the season to get on a roll to win this division with a lil' momentum heading into the playoffs much healthier than we are now. It's wide open and will be competitve all year! Grind.

i know how win percentage works but ya know how they say "1 and a half games behind"

so would that make us 1/3 of a game behind?

Really means nothing right now, but my preseason standings were Ravens, Bengals, Browns and Steelers. The Brownies are tough customers and could really make things interesting.

Really need the Colts to beat the Bengals next week for tie breaker purposes.

'cept they have yet to play us, so they can't win out. Game over, Ravens win AFC North!

Yes, they're ahead but we'll see. Not really concerned with New Orleans, unlike others here. That's a game I really feel confident we'll win. Bengals have some very tough games on the horizon, with us amongst them.

If we can play close to our capabilities I wouldn't be surprised if we lost just one game for the rest of the season. Houston. We need to put some breaks on ATL wideouts next week though.

That half game stuff is stupid. Ties only count in tiebreaker scenarios. A 10-2-4 team isn't gonna win a division over an 11-5 team. As far as I'm concerned the Bengals have won 3 out of 5 games which is 60% below our 4 out of 6. We are 1st they are 2nd. Endo story.

I hope by then, we'll have our old OL with Monroe and KO back (hopefully fully healed up) and can put Will Hill in the secondary (hope as good as advertised), which would be our best possible Pitta-less lineup we can have this season.

Except as it were, if the season ended today, the Bengals would be playing a home game and the Ravens would be playing a road game.

That's the real end of the story. Right now, they are 1, we are 2. Not debatable.

LOL & Amazin! How long have some of you been football fans? Until they get their second loss, they are still in 1st place. Where the tie could hurt Bungles is at the end of the season if we have the same

number of losses but we would wind up with one more win. End of story. Great win on the road! Ravens

should move back up in the power rankings to Top Ten team.

PS - Joe Flacco played up to his capability and looked like a Top 5 QB today. Will he make Kurt

Warner's Top 5? Game commentators today referred to him as Cool Joe Flacco and said he deserves to be

included in the group of elite QBs. I'd rather have him included in the list of QBs with the highest

winning percentage.

That's true, but to the credit of the Bengals, currently of their two losses, they're split 50/50 between AFC and NFC teams with one a piece--the Patriots and Panthers. Unfortunately, both our losses have come at the hand of AFC teams, which is more detrimental in a playoff picture predicated upon AFC records.

Good point and they only have one loss, not two. Right now, they're still in the driver's seat but that will change when we beat them in Cincy in two weeks, right? Of course, I'm assuming we send Mattie

Ice back to his air conditioned,climate-controlled stadium after he melts down in Baltimore.

They are also both playoff contenders which hurts for tie breakers.

That's true. Patriots have as much of a shot at the AFCE as anyone else. Bengals also play Colts soon, too. That game will decide a lot.

Next week I believe, with the Colts at home coming off a longer week.

And they beat us...   so that has a hand in it too.  That being said, one more win for us...  and one loss for them actually puts us one and a half games up.......  That half game could be HUGE at the end of the season....  and if we beat them in our second meeting????

Houston is more problematic to the Ravens than the Chargers are? I need to reevaluate the Ravens remaining schedule then.

Bengals are looking rather mortal lately.

We should have beaten them the first game....  They can be beaten. We didn't have an ounce of anything in the first half of that game...  Came back in the second half and it ended up being a close game....

We have come to expect this as ravens fans. There are just going to be games where we don't click. we have a handful every year. Lets hope we are done with that for this year. I think we play better against them next time.

It's more difficult for a west coast team to travel to the east coast due to time lost through travel with jetlag. They also have a 430 game against the Rams at home the week before. Bottom line is it's going to be tough for them to come here with their offense in our house and beat us when traveling across country and losing three hours after a slightly later game a week before their bout with us.

That long tie game should hurt the bengals here. If only it was a Thursday game. Maybe someone knows, but I believe there is a stat about these long overtime games hurting teams the following week. And the colts have the extra rest. They could wear out cincy here especially if they run fast.
