Haha I'm actually in Hagerstown md bout an hour and half from Baltimore...starting liking the Falcons when I was 14...I've been to ATL for 4 games went there for the Baltimore vs atlanta game in 2010 where roddy did push off but I'm not arguing against the call

no clue.

Hey I was in Atlanta this summer for a few days. Fox Brothers is freaking amazing.

Hey, thanks for visiting our city, please be safe and enjoy your visit.

Jokes are lost on rmcjacket23. He is very pointed and is trying to educate this board, per his own admission. I applaud him for this, otherwise, I couldnt even spell NFL before his arrival.

Fascinating reading, some of that stuff.

As for the Matty ice vs joe cool topic...they both are damn good qbs...but Ryan has never had an elite defense or for that matter a defense even to help him....although Ryan has had better weapons at his disposal....flacco has had a defense that could actually win a game...I'll say this you give Ryan a elite defense Ryan would have had a super bowl or 2...in the flip side you give flacco julio roddy HD and tony g and that defense yall would be the cream of the crop

I think this is pretty accurate. I agree that Ryan and Flacco are both good QBs. Flacco could certainly put up better numbers if he had a better OC for much of his career, and Steve Smith at 35 years old is the best WR he has ever had to throw to. Give him a weapon like Julio and watch out! The funny thing is Flacco won the SB with the worst defense he has ever had to play with, although he came close a couple times. I think Ryan could definitely win a SB someday, but the way Atlanta has built their roster is going to make it tough.

Mostly. This same discussion turning up in thread after thread has gotten old.

Yeah, true that. I entirely agree. It's very old.

I agree. I still think Smith added too much weight and it's affecting his coverage. He looks so slow out there.

If he added weight he must had done that to get better at shredding blocks or be better at stopping the run which he still isn't good at .

I don't see a "shoot out" as some are predicting. They have an abysmal oline and our front seven should be in Ryan's face within a few seconds. And they surely aren't going to run on us either, so how are they going to keep up with our scoring potentiall?

I see matt ryan and glennon having one thing in common rear end on turf .... A LOT,  white is leading the nfl in (these are him committing not the CB)WR PI penalties ..... this could be a long day for their offense ,  no run game and no line ....

The Ravens worst defense would be our best defense lol

Except, you pretty much can't, because your organization continues to trade draft picks gladly AND spend top tier money on skill position players. You've got a large chunk of money committed to Ryan, and you've got like $15M in cap space this season alone tied into two WRs and an incredibly aging RB.... and that's only going to grow when you pay Julio Jones top tier money in the next year or two.

In my opinion, the Falcons are a good 2-3 offensive lineman and about 3-4 quality defensive players away from being a SB contending team. That's a LOT of players, and not something you can get in one or even two years. Its a below average football team in the trenches, and in my opinion, its built butt-backwards.

I don't have any issue with the money given to Ryan, because he's easily worth it, but if you're going to surround him with weapons, you're going to have to pay for them. In the Falcons case, you've got to get a lot younger on defense through the draft and invest in the offensive line to get better.

Ryan actually had a really good defense in 2012 when they went to the NFC Championship Game, and no surprise, won Ryan's first playoff game. He was an unfortunate injury and bad turnovers away from being the Super Bowl runner up

Woulda coulda shoulda. The last lament of the "has been" and the "almost was". The blings the thing. Joe has it, Matty doesn't. Question answered.

.... if SB rings were the only way we judged QBs. Thank God it isn't...

And for what its worth, keep in mind that this very franchise wanted Matt Ryan a heck of a lot more than they wanted Joe Flacco. Doesn't mean they made the wrong decision, but the franchise saw the same things in Ryan that the Falcons did...

Matt Ryan was probably one of the highest graded quarterbacks to come out since 2000

Well, it wasn't a decision, because the Falcons selected Ryan before the Ravens were on the board.  The Ravens were never going to trade up to the top 3 to get Ryan, so that was no decision at all.  They were very high on Flacco as well, but would have selected Ryan if he fell to them, which he didn't, so it was an easy decision for them in the draft room after all.

Its well documented by now, but in summary, the Ravens offered the Rams, who were picking second, their 1st, 2nd and 4th's in that season and a third the following year to move up to #2 to select Matt Ryan. The Rams price was steeper than that.

Also, there are numerous confirmed quotes from Bischotti himself that said he was willing to literally give up the entire draft to get Matt Ryan, because he couldn't stand to keep playing without a franchise QB anymore. It was Ozzie and DeCosta mostly who convinced Steve that the difference between Flacco and Ryan (they all acknowledged Ryan was the better prospect) wasn't big enough to justify the price tag that the Rams wanted.

Roddy white is gonna "stiff arm" his way to the end zone a few times.....ugh, I'm still mad about that game..

In hindsight, it was a good thing we didn't trade up for Ryan. He just wouldn't have been a good fit in Cam's system, or in the AFCN. Personally I thought Flacco was a better player anyway (then again, I also thought Ryan was going to be a bust.....which he may well have been had he had to play in our crap system his first six years)

We also wanted Jason Garret for an HC and to draft Brady Quinn so we're not batting 1.000 when it comes to these prognostications.

Who cares, though? That was 7 seasons ago. Who cares, who was projected to be the better prospect. Tom Brady wasn't projected to be a great QB, he went in the 6th round. I'm sure the NE Patriots are kicking themselves for not picking Spergon Wynn. The Ravens ended up with Joe Flacco and never looked back!

That doesn't matter...

So why does it matter if we favored one over the other?

Bet we favored Reggie Bush a lot over Haloti Ngata, too

For what it's worth the Ravens had Jamarcus Russel #1 on their big board. It doesn't matter since someone else drafted him. Same applies with Ryan.

The reason this thread exists is because people do care. First post on this very thread is entitled "Flacco or Ryan"

Except we offered draft picks to another team in order to get Matt Ryan, and there's no indication we did that with Jamarcus Russell.

Question the reason why this thread exists, not me.

And again, we actually made at least one draft pick trade offer in order to acquire Matt Ryan. There is no indication we did that for Reggie Bush (nor is there in indication we wanted him at all).

I never denied, that people care who's better. I just don't see how a player being a better prospect makes him a better player. Their carreers decide that. The Ravens might have been higher on Ryan, but I doubt they are any longer. Flacco had a historically great 2012 playoff campaign, that ended in the Ravens winning a SB. He was one of the main reason we got this. Ryan never did anything of that sort.
