Vonta Leach?

28 posts in this topic

If you're the ravens, Why not try to resign Vonta Leach. Put juice at TE, or a 3rd tb, have leach blocking for pierce/forsett. Imagine Leach/Talifero.. Just a thought, what say you guys?

I feel Leach would be a dead giveaway. When he is in the backfield there is a great chance we are going to run the ball. Juice is a legit passing threat. I think with him in the backfield it definitely adds to hide our intentions. I like how we are using Juice. We are not as predictable.

he might be done but I had thought along those lines given the fact that he knows the offense and at one time (at least) was a terrific road mashing lead blocker. It would also get juice out running routes regularly as TE as you mentioned.

I was pretty upset myself when they let leach go, especially with how crappy the run is, but I think this hope is unrealistic

The run IS crappy?

Forsett: 5.9 yrds/att

Pierce: 4.5 yrds/att

LT: 4.4 yrds/att

No need for Leech.

Having Leach back there pretty much says that we'll either run the ball or if we don't, you don't need to cover him. That's a problem. I guess people forget the times he dropped the ball.

Part of the benefit of having Juice at FB is that 1. he can flex out and catch passes and 2. he's also pretty good in pass protection.

Neither is a strength of Leach. And that ignores the fact that Leach was absolutely nothing special last season. He's being propped up purely on ceremony at this point.

Don't think it benefits the Ravens.

I am not addressing whether Leach should return. I don't think having him in the backfield should have been a give away of plans. I remember leach blocking on passing downs in the past. I don't think they used him as often as they should have in pass blocking, especially last year.

sorry, was*.  A year ago, the run was crappy and we let leach go, that was my point.  The run is great now, of course.

Agreed Holding Call and BSHU_Miami!    I've said this along time ago!  Leach can catch a ball and can get YAC too.  He also adds some fire to the offensive side of the ball.  Kubiak should be able to incorporate Leach without it being a giveaway...Leach wasn't given that opportunity against Cam's playbook under Cam or Caldwell. Imagine if Leach had been blocking in there Sunday to help out Hurst. lol  It definitely could help out with the red zone 4th and inches. Juice would be a great TE with his catching ability.

Honestly, it scares me seeing Forsett block over 300lb linemen. That's alot for someone under 200lbs.  The last thing I would want to see is him getting hurt doing that. (see this week's edition of "Wired").

Personally, I miss Leach!

Some guys did not like Leach   I wonder where he is? Could Jus be a run back as well??? Lets make Jus the jack of all trades in the rush and TE game.  Like I say that dude is the crust on the bread.

I have to say I miss his presence as well.  All too often he was put into a one dimensional role

Juice is more of dual threat FB

Hey  A JUS man like me.  That guy is excellent.  We need more forum members supporting a stronger role for the JUS . Admit it,   when he was given the proper play call for a catch or run he succeeded.

I agree but Juice is being underutilized as such. We need a Danny Woodhead or Wes Welker type slot receiver who is fearless coming across the middle and one who can get more YAC. That is not Forsett, Pierce or Taliferro. I think Juice or Campanero could fill that role but it won't happen until the offensive line blocking woes are solved. Until and unless that happens, someone needs to stay in the backfield to pick up the defenders who are being held by our linemen and/or are sacking our QB again. If we still

had Vonta Leach, that would free up Juice to better fill his dual threat role. Right now, we only

have one dependable receiver --- Steve Smith, Sr.. He'll receive double coverage for the rest of the year until Jacobi and Torrey can pick up the slack. Torrey seems to have regressed.

on all these failed 3rd and 1s ... 4th and 1s. leach is a snow plow. i wouldn't mind having him strictly for the purpose alone. the guy is a pro bowler that could be had for pennies on the dollar.

Here's the problem... Leach isn't very good anymore.

He wasn't great in run blocking last season, and he was absolutely HORRIBLE in pass protection, which is why he was completely phased out of that scenario by mid-season.

Leach falls into the Ed Reed class of player currently... spoken 100% in the past tense. He WAS this, he WAS that. We are looking (even though we aren't really looking at all, since this position isn't a weakness on this team) for IS players, as in current.

32 NFL teams don't think he's good enough to play for them or to even be a part of their roster (despite how ridiculously cheap and experienced he is). I don't need any more information than that.

The Leach boat sailed 2 yrs ago. Bringing him back last year was a waste, to do so again this year would be ridiculous. There are plenty of ways to protect the QB other than this idea.

No question Leach is a fan favorite. Always will be. Well deserved no question. Times change, though.

Based on one failed conversion... we now need to bring in a new player?

obviously there is a lack of faith in the short running game... multiple failed 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 plays

It isn't based on just one failed conversion.
