Rex as DC if he's fired?

42 posts in this topic

Although I'm thinking his personality wouldn't go well with harbs at all. But the thoughts of an aggressive defense vs bend don't break hmmm... If the jets can Rex, would you want him for our DC or no?

Don't think Rex want to come back. He's more likely to go with Chuck or maby even Jim Harbaugh, but not BMore

I don't think Rex is ever coming back here whether he gets fired or not. He was pretty miffed about not getting that HC gig & I just don't see him & Harbs getting along all that well with their very different personalities and their approach with players.

I'm also not sure he's getting fired sooner than end of this season if at all. I mean, the Jets havent' really improved and he's still there.

Like I said in the other thread, I strongly believe he'll get a HC job elsewhere before he comes back here. Oakland, Jags, maybe even Bucc's....

I'd love to have him here but I don't see it any time in the near future unless he truely desires to be here. Which none of us know.

St. Louis would be such a sexy destination for Rexy if he wanted to be a DC again. Hell, I believe he could choose to be a DC pretty much anywhere he wanted to.

I don't see it as a possibility. Between him being insulted that he got overlooked for the Ravens HC job to possible personality conflicts with Harbs, it might be best to look elsewhere. Though I wouldn't mind one with a fearless mentality that he seemed to have when coaching the defense.

He and John are good friends, I think all the way back from their time at Cincinnati.

However, don't think he would step down to DC if HC jobs were out there. Some scrub organization like the Raiders, Bills, Rams would roll out the red carpet.

I don't know that I would want him back, mostly due to his 'personality' which is a broad term people use to describe his empty bluster and divisive team chemistry. Now if Chuck Pagano was out there...

He was here and worked well with Bilick.  If the Jets fire him I believe he will end up somewhere other than BAL. Since he lost the weight, he could be the 6th gut on one of those bogus pre game shows.

Honestly I hope so but after John got picked as HC over him I doubt it.

Egos exist even in a coaches locker room.

I think enough time has passed since we picked Harbs that its not that big of a deal. If he were to get fired I believe he'd be happy and excited to be just a DC, putting behind him for now the stress of being an HC. He'd relish the opportunity to be the DC here with the talent we have, and boy would that be exciting.

Broncos and Patriots are up next, followed by the Bills, Chiefs and Steelers before their bye. Its not looking good for them at 1-4, looking to go 1-6 the next few weeks. They could fire Rex during the bye week, wouldn't be a shock.

The problem I see is either Harb's or Rex's egos getting in the way of this hire.... but if it can happen, with the talent we have in Ngata and Williams up front, Mosley in the middle and Jimmy in the back, Rex would have a field day coordinating this defense!

Yes,but it won't happen.First there's all the other issues everyone brought up then there's the fact that Dean Pees isn't going anywhere. He's somewhere between bad and just ok as a DC,but we have so many young talented high draft picks and smart pro bowl caliber vets on this defense that it covers up just how bad he is.If we had the steelers defensive depth chart our defense would've finished in the bottom 10 in most of the big stat categories these last two years.Instead we've been stuck in the 12-17 range and 12-17 is not bad enough to get a DC fired and replaced.

Tell ya what, I don't know why he'd turn down the offer he we gave it to him.

He'd get to focus entirely on defense, and we have a ton of young pieces for him to wreak havoc with. We have a lot of talent, and I really want to know what he could do with Elam, Mosley, Brown, Upshaw, and McPhee.

There's always that sideways look between them as it is...  have you seen that show Coach Speak?

They were very awkward together.

Probably not going to happen and if anything Harbaugh would just promote  Steve Spagnuolo or Ted Monachino to be a defensive coordinator.

the only reason rex wouldve came back to begin with was if ray or ed was here.. and they arent lol.

maybe suggs and ngata could try to lure him back, but i doubt it

I could see Wade Phillips coming in as DC before Rex. He already has a connection here with Gary Kubiak and it fits the teams MO of bringing in old Texans players/personnel.

Don't get my hopes up like that

And I was wondering if a topic like this was ever gonna be posted lol.

But in all seriousness, let's just hope that our secondary improves (though they're not giving me a reason to believe so) before this conversation gets more intense.

I'd be very happy with Wade Phillips. That would be awesome. I don't think Pees is that bad though.

Agreed. Wade would be awesome & nothing that I'm used to or like but bend don't break does have our defense in top 10 & great in ppg

Exactly.  Maybe we aren't #1, but we can be pretty good when need be.  I mentioned that just last weekend.  I told my husband...  That if we can stop and hold them in the redzone, there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be able to do it in the middle of the field....  We escalate the intensity when we are pressured...  and we need to do it all the time.... with consistency.

In fact, part of my thinking was based it on that awkwardness they displayed on the show ... you're absolutely right!

Me as well but I think we might be jumping the gun. We don't even know if Pees is on any type of hot seat with the team. More so with some of the fans. I feel like its the Cam Cameron situation all over again. Except on defense. IMO Pees is not a bad DC but he isn't great either. It's all wishful thinking.
