Official Vent thread vs Indy : who should walk home

dude, I can eyeball it. Why?

1. I can count. I know the difference between rushing 3 and rushing 4.

2. I can clearly see a guy (or two) coming off the edge at the snap. Yes, it is clear.

3. I know the definition of successful. If you get pressure enough that you disrupt the timing, if you get a sack, if you tip the pass, etc.

4. I know the definition of unsuccessful i.e. they move the chains and you don't get off the field.

For some things yes, you'd need a play breakdown - but you can clearly see blitzes by watching and you can clearly discern if it was successful or not.

If you're so inclined however, feel free to break it down play by play and then you can come back and try to argue the point.

Would you actually like the numbers?

Oh, and without looking, please tell me how many they rushed on all four touchdowns

It was just good seeing Webb looking close to normal, especially after the way he looked in week 3. He didn't have a great game, but he looked quick to me and was able to close on the ball. I think getting those reps are important for him at this juncture. He's going to have step into a bigger role now that Jackson is hurt.

He definitely looked good when closing and tackled well, so that's always encouraging. I'm thinking that the Bucs should be a good game because they won't have Mike Evans, correct? Just want him full go for the Falcons

Well, they gave up four touchdowns on the season, so there's that, but I really meant on their three interceptions on the season. Actually why don't you guess how many people blitzed on each touchdown and how many blitzed on each interception.

Try not to look because by your logic, blitzing causes good plays, so I'd like just some guesses.

That loss hurt a lot because we lost that game meaning Indy was gifted a victory by all means necessary. We simply stink on the road. Can't put a finger on it, but we aren't upto being a good away team and till we do, we can't be playoff contenders period.

My Gosh. Get a grip people. We lost to a good team on the road. Not even close to the end of the world (or season). Calm yourselves.

Got drawn into too many arguments after just pointing things out, but I came to the conclusion at the end of last season that people in there would rather be emotional than rational.

They like to call it "passionate" as I learned.

No way man. We're terrible, the league and media hate us and we can't do anything right. The only way to fix our systemic issues is to either cut or fire everyone, trade the players we can't cut and rebuild from there.

So are we pretending like Flacco has never played well or beyound well on the road? Other than that Interception Flacco made there was nothng i saw he could have done better because our offensive line was consistently allow him to be pressured and just like Tom Brady when you don't give your quarterback enough time to make plays then the offense is going to look bad.

I don't know what Flacco does on the side line but he is what he is and he's been here for six years. I don't expect him to change but atleast Gary Kubiak actually sits down with Flacco to read over plays and etc to see what went wrong and what could have been better unlike what Cam and Jim did.

Compare road and home numbers. The good games without looking are probably far fewer than bad on the road. There is a huge drop off in play, but in his defense many qbs seem to struggle on the road I guess.

oh okay. I guess I wasn't clear. I was speaking of this particular game, not the season as a whole.  I mean, that is the topic of the thread - you know, vent about this game.

I honesly had not been previously taking note as closely as this particular game (though I noticed enough to know he called more blitzes last week)- so I could not give you those particular numbers. I paid closer attention this game - because Pees had called more blitzes last week and I wanted to see how this week compared offhand.

If you'll recall, we had the conversation how Pees was much more aggressive last week, and I liked it and hoped it continued this week. It didn't. I apologize if that wasn't you, but I'm fairly certain it was with you.

Furthermore, I wasn't speaking solely about scoring plays. I believe I even mentioned how their red zone defense was awesome. Pretty certain I did.

There are way more opportunities to pressure the QB throughout the game and cause mistakes that potentially become more turnovers, better field position, get your defense off the field, etc. Everyone wants to make excuses in the 4th about how tired the defense is - you know, creating some pressure could potentially end those long drives they allow sooner - then perhaps they wouldn't be so gassed.

I  can give you numbers for the entire season that support that there really isn't a difference between when the Ravens blitz and when they don't, except on causes far more turnovers.

You said good plays happen 90% of the time when the Ravens blitz, thought you were referring to the entire season, even though the two interceptions came off of a four and two man rush. They also generated their only sack with no blitz.

Actually, he blitzed 10 times last week and 10 times this week, and no, I had dearly hoped that Luck did not get blitzed much this week. Luck has 6% higher completion percentage, 35 point higher QBR, has 1.7 more yards per attempt, and five touchdowns to zero interceptions. He also has only taken one sack off the blitz. In no way, shape, or form does that tell anyone to blitz Luck. So, you still think you want to blitz Luck a lot? He's just a master of beating the blitz.

Not sure if this was posted (I do not read through these boards after losses), but here is an article showing PFF Grades from Colts Game.

http://www.purplereignshow.com/2014/10/07/ravens-vs-colts-week-five-pff-grades

Nothing surprising here. On offense the entire line was solid with the exception of Hurst who was a huge hole. Hard to blame an undrafted rookie on his second start at LT. The coaches should have game planned to help him better. In addition, the receivers were given low grades.

On defense, we were pretty solid. CJ, Pernell, & Jimmy have consistently been receiving positive grades week to week - bright future(s) here. In addition, Brooks received a positive score for only his second game action. On the other end of the spectrum, Webb & Asa struggled. Webb showed some flashes of his old self, so lets hope he regains his form from (at least) the end of last year.

Thanks for that.  I have to say - Joe and the WRs simply did not cut it on Sunday. Poor effort.  It starts with Joe, who threw some off target passes.  As for the WRs, we were told how "deep and talented" we were at that position during OTAs and preseason, but they're not showing up.  I'm a fan of Steve Smith, and I give him a bit of a pass for 1 game, but the other guys have to step up.  We are either not as talented at WR as we think or playcalling has to change or Joe has to lead this group better.  Or some combination.  Also, Deonte and Campanaro have earned a chance to play and Jacoby (whom I like) has earned a spot on the bench.

We're a good team with a chance to be really good but these games where Joe comes out in first gear have got to stop.  Top tier QBs find a way.

Deonte isnt on the team. I agree that JJ needs to sit for a little while and perhaps get a chance again in a few games. We need to involve Brown and Aiken and perhaps bring Camp up for a spark on KR/PR.

Am I the only one who literally learned nothing from this game?

We lost to a good team on the road in a close game. Is the expectation really that we are supposed to win every game? Really?

We will lose more games too, likely multiple of them. That's how football works.

Yes, I agree with giving someone else taking more snaps in place of JJ - although I think that is happening? I have not found snap counts for the Colts game, but from the Panthers game, Marlon's snap counts have been increasing while JJ's have been decreasing. Maybe Aiken should get more snaps as well.

Now, the WRs played a poor game against the Colts - totally agree. However, we were playing against the number 1 and number 8 ranked CBs in the NFL, were consistently blitzed and did not establish a running game allowing more coverage. I think the game plan adjustments were very poor, and the offense in general was in a tough spot tactically throughout the game. Hats off to Chuck for his game plan.

This game just established what we already knew:

Hurst needs help, The Offense needs to establish and maintain the run to be successful (especially against a good D coordinator like Chuck), the secondary is still shaky and needs to prevent 3rd and long situations, Coaches need to analyze and react to game flow better.

At the end of the day, you are right, it was a tough loss to a good team on the road. Do not understand why YOU continue to try and persuade the mass here to be logical. It will not happen on a forum. Overreaction is the norm. Just accept it.

Jacoby got eight, Marlon got 30, and Aiken got 6.

Davis is number 5 and Toler is lime 97. Those are the starters. Those rankings come after this week. Davis likely moved up a fair amount and Toler down a fair amount (like four or five spots each), but still not even close to the first and eighth best. Darius Butler is now the 27th best, likely didn't see any movement or maybe moved up a spot or two

Thanks for the snap counts.

Where is your information from and what stats are you basing this on?

PFF has Davis ranked 1 and Toler ranked 8 in opposing team passer rating when targeted.

Speaking for myself though; my expectation is for our team to perform "well" and be more consistent in their approach to the game whether they are at home or on the road.  It's not rocket science!

I can't keep up with Deonte's comings and goings, lol.  I'll take at least Camp then.  Aiken has impressed me when he's had the chance.  Feels like its just time to make changes.  I know the Colts are a good team, and it was at their place.  Any thoughts on Joe's performance?

I agree he missed some throws, but the oline and receivers did little to help him out. The INT was just a very poor read and throw, though.

It's really too bad the Negative Nancy's have pushed you guys (and other positive contributors) away. This is my first season on the game thread, and it's becoming my own personal hell, also.

What bothers me the most is that some of our players have been giving 110% playing through a tremendous amount of pain (I'm thinking specifically Monroe, Canty, Suggs, this year, KO, Haloti last year), and yet we have supposed "fans" who sit on their cushy couches on their computers piling on nothing but criticism if we don't absolutely dominate on every single play..

It's sickening. Y'all know who you are, and yeah, I'm calling you out. Hope you get carpal-tunnel from all that typing and learn what it's like to "play through the pain".
