JJ watt and it's not close right now

I beg the differ. Demarco Murray is on pace to get records so it's between Watt and Murray.

I dunno about that. We'll see how the season goes, but at the end of the day Murray is a great back behind a great line. It's not like he's Barry Sanders doing it in spite of his line. Watt is doing things we've never seen a defensive lineman do. It's a moot argument though because they could both win since they're on different sides of the ball. But if you could only give out one, I think Watt has the edge on Murray right now.

This feeling we have about Smitty might be how we felt about Dez Bryant if we had drafted him.

Haha I would argue that we would be MUCH more defensive of Dez because he would be all ours. We still have to begrudgingly accept that Smith Sr. will retire a Panther.

I like Murray, and he's in my fantasy team so I hope he smashes records this season, but I can't see him keeping his numbers up or even winning MVP if he does. He's still a step below Adrian Peterson from a couple of years back and you'd have to back Peyton to figure into the equation again sooner rather than later.

I don't think Murray can keep that up, the Cowboys' schedule so far has been easy pertaining to run defense, their only challenge was the 49ers and they lost, Murray still had a good game but the rest of the Cowboys' season won't be so easy, lots of good run Ds, i doubt he'll keep up the pace he's set so far. Plus the Cowboys have a history or doing dumb things, so i won&%

and you guys have to remember about watt, to win mvp over offensive players is a daunting task, he has 2 td's as of now, but as a DE do you really think he can keep that going? yes he is excellent at getting up and swatting the ball, but there also have to be a lot of things going your way to snag one and take it to the house, its not like hes gonna have 8 picks for TD's by the end of the year, not even the best db's do that in one season, and for a DE to win league mvp over an offensive player, he would need those kinds of numbers, along with double digit sacks, forced fumbles, and a top 5 defense and a playoff berth, youre not gonna win league mvp unless you carry your team to the playoffs.

defensive mvp tho... man if he only played half a season i dont know if any player in the league with a full season could catch up to him

Opposing Team Adjustments and Prime-time Viewer-ship Will Change the Current MVP Considerations:

Smith Sr. has had an amazing 1st quarter of the season and if this pace continues he'll definitely be in the running for Ravens team MVP, but I find it hard to see him overcome the difficulty of his position in this NFL QB era to become the league MVP. Most likely by seasons end Smith will be in the 1200+ yds receiving/10 TD area (my bold prediction when he was initially signed by the Ravens). J.J. Watts will also have a great year, but can't keep-up the early pace.

imo - Smith Sr. may earn Team MVP by the end of the season, but unless the Ravens finish 12-4 and dominate home-field in the playoffs against 'elite' QBs (especially Rivers: The only one currently on pace to possibly break records so far) Steve won't garner enough votes or prime-time consideration to win league MVP. He's always been one of those 'Did You Know?' - 'Unsung Song Hero' kind of players and I think that's what drives his fire. I'd rather he keep that fire and tell everybody all about it during his Ravens Superbowl presser and his Hall of Fame acceptation speech.

GO Ravens!!! Shock the WORLD!!!

A QB will almost always get the nod for MVP. If Steve Smith puts up monster numbers, it'll probably just help put Flacco in the running more so than getting votes for himself. However, he could end up getting offensive player of the year.
