Philbin is by far the worst HC in the league. Who would follow that guy anywhere? He is the worst by a mile. I can't think of any area he excels in.

I'm pretty convinced now. Mike Smith is very likely to be fired, perhaps before the end of the year. The Falcons are just a very poor team and they're getting out coached in addition to out played. I can't see him back.

In his defense he's dealt with a TON of injuries this season. The falcons GM hasn't been helping put talent out their either.

The GM should be fired because he gave away picks for one player and has no depth because of it. Look at us, Monroe and KO go down, Hurst and Urschel step in on the left side and it's like we haven't lost Monroe or KO. Atlanta has a lot of injuries to that o-line and no depth to make up for those losses. I can see a house cleaning with Smith being gone too.

Bengals: I think we all know that basically Andy Dalton is holding this team back from being able to show their potential. Though on the other hand, how much longer will Mike Brown stand back and be ok with being one and done in the playoffs? Think it's time to cut Marvin Lewis loose and find a new coach, and a new QB.

Bills: Kyle Orton coming out of retirement and good play may save Doug Marrone as Orton has the Bills winning.

Dolphins: Why on earth did they think Joe Philbin would be a good head coach? Dolphins have been up and down, they need to find a new coach who can help them succeed in the East.

Jets: Their desperation trade of Harvin explains everything.

Giants: I said it in the pre-season, this may be it for Tom Coughlin. Giants look horrible. Quite possibily their GM needs to be canned for a total house cleaning. A total house cleaning worked for Arizona.

Bears: Marc Trestman was a horrible hire to begin with, and it's showing.

Panthers: To give Rivera credit, once again he is stuck with a bad GM. Dave Gettleman did nothing to replace Steve Smith and retired LT Jordan Gross. They also lost Brandon LaFell and Ted Ginn. The result, Cam Newton getting banged up from no help from the line and no receiving targets outside of Olsen and Benjamin. Also no depth behind Greg Hardy, yet people wondered why they waited to deactivate him.

Bucs: New GM, new coach, same old problem.

Rams: Sorry but Jeff Fisher should have stayed retired like Lovie Smith.

Surprised this wasn't posted earlier but saw this regarding the Falcons and Mike Smith. Jason LaCanfora reports the Falcons are expected to fire Mike Smith and to go after an "A-List" Head Coach.

Jon Gruden possibly?

That's what I expected. I'm not sure about the whole A-list guy, but I think a lot of people expected this to be the end of Mike. Thanks for posting this article, though. I didn't hear that there was actual traction.

not sure if this fits here but I was just reading that Jim H may not be back in SF next year. do you guys think he would consider becoming baltimore's OC if Gary gets hired elsewhere ? I'm not really sure if he has play calling experience but he used to play QB and be a QB coach and that had to count for something right ? just a curious question.

Won't happen.... Rich rod on the way out at Michigan. Jim will take that job

Nope... Not a chance whatsoever

1. Rich Rod doesn't coach at Michigan.

2. Harbaugh isn't taking that job either, because its a MAJOR downgrade from SF. If Harbaugh were to leave SF, he'd have about 80% of the NFL teams to choose from.

If any of those rumors are true that have circulated over time, I'd say 80% is way high but I'd see 3 or 4 teams that would go for it

No offense to The Harbaugh's but having both of them on the coaching staff would probably be too much ,

Bills, Jets, Dolphins, Browns, Texans, Titans, Jaguars, Raiders, Cowboys, Redskins, Falcons, Panthers, Buccaneers, Rams, Bears, Vikings.

That, to me, is the MINIMUM list. If Harbaugh went to the media, and said he wants to coach any of the teams listed above, that team would fire their HC and hire him within about 48 hours.

So Ian Rapport is reporting that Jim Harbaugh is unlikely to be the coach of the 49ers next season. Now here's the twist, Jim's wife doesn't want to move from the Bay Area and wants to stay in the Bay Area. Raiders have an opening, could Jim head to Oakland?

I'm not sure if Jim Harbaugh is the long term answer for any NFL team, but I do think he can do better than most as a short term fix to help turn around a team. If I was the Raiders, I'd give him a shot. Not like you're going to get worse.

I think Jim has enough rep to get the Oakland job and pull a Jeff Fisher and select his GM. I can definitely see that as a possibility.

If the Niners actually make the playoffs, I have an extremely hard time believing that that won't save his job.  If they lose in the playoffs and fire him, they'd be way behind on their coaching search, as most of the hot candidates will have already been hired.

Is Jim signed through next year or is this his final year? I ask cause he may not want to come back.

Hearing rumors now of the possible exit of Tom Coughlin but then again this is where the Giants get hot and win the Super Bowl.

So after today's games, Mike Smith and Tom Coughlin should be fired.... tomorrow. So maybe not Coughlin as the Giants have been very patient with him. So the very least, Mike Smith should be fired tomorrow. Then Atlanta can ship off Thomas Dimitroff after week 17.

I see Mike Smith's a former defensive co-ordinator. Don't think he did anything outstanding, mind.

But yeah, that guy has no business being a HC next week.

Talking about a short turnaround and best short fix coach is Jim Harbaugh; since he hasn't been long enough in the NFL, I can't say he will be a long term successful coach but as up today, he is the best available coach for any team for a quick turnaround.  I think he can be a good long term coach too but we'll see.  I can't wait Jim to leave 49ers so those fans can be brought down to earth: the usual losing team.

I'm sure if Jim is ever available coach, his phone will blow up with all those calls from GMs and owners around the league.  I don't like his constant whining on the sideline, but all great coaches have personalities.  It's common.

He can go to any team but don't go to the Browns........pls no Jim....

Some interesting news coming out of New Orleans. The relationship between Sean Payton and DC Rob Ryan is "deteriorating" and changes could be coming to the defensive side of the ball. Translation: Rob Ryan will likely be the scapegoat for this horrible season.

That would make sense, really talented defense on paper with a good year last year not producing. I would give him one more year but they had high expectations with the defense this year

Next year apparently is his final year though it's odd. I know of those times picks were exchanged for a Head Coach but wouldn't the NFL shoot it down and block it?

I'm hearing the Raiders and Jets could be possibilities in terms of trading for Jim Harbaugh. But this report below says the 49ers would be willing to extend Harbaugh if they make the playoffs and go on a run. So which is it, are they trying to trade him or extend his contract? My thing is, why would a team trade draft picks for a coach who essentially the team would fire if they don't find a trade partner?

http://www.freep.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/wolverines/2014/11/30/jim-harbaugh-san-francisco-49ers/19701305/

Oakland would only prove they will remain the Raiders by wasting away draft picks trading for him and it wouldn't do the Jets any good to lose draft picks either since they need to rebuild that team.

Why JH go to the train wrecked?

Lots of good team need a right management and leading; JH is the hottest coach in the biz right now if he's ever available.  Chicago would love to have him.....

I think Michigan will build him a mansion and treat him like God if he wants to coach there.

But do you think Harbs really wants to bet on Cutler?  We also have to take into account Harbs family. If his wife wants to stay on the West Coast, they're going to Oakland
