2014-2015 Coaching Carousel

O wow, welp if any good defensive mines become available this forum will get busy lol

Allen was the DC of the Broncos side that got Tim Tebow to the playoffs if memory serves. Wiki tells me his side gave up a chunk of yardage, but was fifth in the league for sacks. And his background is as a secondary coach learning under a College HoF coach.

Just wait until those credentials start to get passed around here.

Truth be told I could actually see him as another coach that comes here for a potential career revitalisation - like a Castillo or Spagnulo kinda guy. Not like he's the hottest name on the market right now.

Teams are way too eager to ditch their coach. Give him a few years to set up what he wants to do and stop hitting the restart button.

That said, I'm sure another 6 coaches will lose their jobs this year - most of them probably in their 1st or 2nd year.

Allen is likely an example of a guy who's a pretty good coordinator but not a particularly good head coach.

To be fair to Allen, Reggie McKenzie has to be one of the worst general managers out there, maybe the worst.

So what's strange about all this is that Mark Davis was essentially preparing to fire Allen a year in advance according to PFT. Davis loved Derek Carr so much he wanted to take him with the fifth pick of the draft. Why? As a way to lure Jon Gruden to Oakland for 2015. Davis felt that Gruden's favorite QB of the draft was Carr and having him would only make Gruden come to Oakland.

Seems strange to me, so he took a guy who may or may not be the franchise QB but took him only to help bring a new coach in in 2015. Instead of taking someone who can help the current coach? Only the Raiders.

Yeah, hearing about other teams' GMs always make me happy that the Ravens have a guy like Ozzie.

Well speaking of coaches on the proverbial hot seat, did anyone hear about how Jim Harbaugh may be gone from the Niners even if they win the Super Bowl? You say you want links? Well here's one: http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2014-10-05/nfl-jim-harbaugh-49ers-report-leaving-end-of-season-fox-sunday-jay-glazer

Here's another one: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/10/05/jay-glazer-sees-no-way-jim-harbaugh-remains-with-49ers-beyond-this-year/

I call BS on that.

If the Jets continue on this path, I can't see any way that Rex keeps his job...

Neither do I. You know some of us fans would be calling for him to come to us to replace Pees lol.

If this mess continues for couple more games (they play Denver and at NE), I can see Rex gone before the season ends. They suffered some injuries today, too.

I would LOVE to have Rex Ryan back here as a DC. I know it's probably unlikely, but he gave us an edge on defense.

I second this.......but it's only on wish list........

I'm pretty convinced now. Mike Smith is very likely to be fired, perhaps before the end of the year. The Falcons are just a very poor team and they're getting out coached in addition to out played. I can't see him back.

If (when) Rex gets the ax, it won't be until after the season ends, according to "sources."

You always have to remember, Woody Johnson owns that team. He loves the publicity and semi-relevance of the team with Rex in charge even though they're a joke.

So, we've seen Dennis Allen sunk thus far... who could be next? I have to run down my Raiders-Jags-Browns franchise alliance of ineptitude.

Gus Bradley, we always hear about him being an excellent coach but he hasn't produced as such. He's only 2 seasons in so he has a shot to hang around - except Jacksonville has a very poor FO who, looking to deflect blame, could pull the plug.

Mike Pettine is actually far exceeding expectations in Cleveland. I'm impressed because that's a place where it's near impossible to even be .500. He's safe and then some.

Mike Smith, like his team, is charmin soft. They're an awful 2-5 after coming off of a 4-12 season. Even though Smith coaches them like this he got no help from his GM, trying-too-hard-hipster Thomas Dimitroff, who spent a kings ransom on Julio Jones which led to other parts of the team being neglected. The team plays scared and soft. Arthur Blank might be too frightened to drop those guys because the Falcons have historically sucked but, hey, he might be back to sucking already.

Rex Ryan - see above - Woody Johnson is a 'contented' owner like Arthur Blank.

Mike Tomlin's losses have been piling up and the crappy chemistry of the Steelers comes to a head more often these days. The Roethlisberger / Haley fued in which Roethlisberger takes passive-aggressive swipes at the gameplan, the lackluster defense which turned to old folks James Harrison and Brent Keisel to play a lot of snaps and Troy Polamalu living off his name, the OL which has both off-the-field and attitude issues as well as crappy play. It's just a circus and I love it.

Jay Gruden has done a turrible job in DC but he'll get another year or two.

Jason Garrett sees his name of this list... temporarily, most likely
