Remaining Schedule

Because fans never actually stand behind what they say. That's the hard part.

The easiest part is to say "well gee, we are going to be 16-0 every season". At a moments notice, they will change what they previously said dramatically.

Fans aren't accountable for anything. Fans have the luxury of bashing Hensley or any other national sportswriter who makes a prediction about something, but when a fan makes a bad prediction, what happens? The answer is nothing. Its just written off as another inaccurate fan opinion and forgotten. Yet, those same fans will ALWAYS keep track of who picks against us, and when we win, they are out in force. But when we lose, they never acknowledge it.

2013 is the prime example of this. The overwhelming majority of the national media predicted that this team would be a mediocre football team. Fans on these boards overwhelmingly bashed them, criticized them for not knowing what they are talking about, and questioning every opinion they had for the rest of the season.

I don't recall one fan who apologized or even acknowledged that they were wrong when the Ravens, by definition, were a mediocre football team.

Why? Because thats the hard part...

Good Lord man, its just for fun.

I bet we win the next 23 Super Bowls! Yay!!!!!

As long as that exact same perspective is kept in regards to criticizing others (particularly media writers), then that's completely fair.

I find on these boards, however, that's generally not the case.

Like others have said, predicting the record of the remaining schedule is all in fun.  I seriously doubt that anyone who predicted the Ravens to go 16-0 record, slit their wrist after the Bengals game.  Heck if you can legally place a wager on the over/under on the Ravens' season at a sportsbook, picking their record on a forum shouldn't be that serious.

And I completedly agree with that premise.

My entire point is... why do so many fans on here get so upset when another analyst/writer/prognosticator picks us to lose? I mean you should have seen the uproar on these boards when a lot of the national pundits picked us to lose to Pittsburgh at home.

Isn't that sort of a double standard / hypocritical on fans part?

I'm a fan and all things considering, I picked us to lose at home vs Pittsburgh.

The short week (played on a Thursday).

The drama that Monday of them releasing Ray Rice.

I just felt it was too big of a distraction to overcome.  I'm glad that the pundits and I were wrong.

That's fine.

And judging from what I saw on the message boards about a day or two before the game, you were in the minority of people that agreed with their position. Hopefully you weren't one of the one's who went out of your way to bash them for their opinions either.

Nope not my style. I never understood why fans get upset bc they feel the sports reporters never give the Ravens their due praise or enough press. Who cares?

Indy will be our statement game, if we are who we think we are,,, or hope to be ,,, then we go in and handle business, When the schedule first came out I called us to go 11-12 wins I did count us to beat cincy, and I also called for us to loose to indy,,,, but looking at us play ,we can beat them,,

Mmm. Reading through the last two pages of this thread, an old idiom about parades and precipitation comes to mind...Personally I don't like to predict Ws and Ls because I want my Ravens to win every game. Part of the fun is hoping for the best even when it's unrealistic and sometimes being rewarded for that. The wins are sweeter for me that way. However, that's just the type of fan I am. I don't see anything counterproductive about fans making predictions whether they stand behind them or not.

the only games i see on there that are going to be very difficult are @CIN and home vs. SD.  those are the only 2 opponents that I am afraid of.

SD will be tough but we have another edge beyond just being at home. That cross country flight is a killer. As far as Cincy, that one will be an uphill battle.

Mostly because fans aren't very good at it.

And because, on a weekly basis, the opinion of the team swings in radically different directions amongst the fans.

Fans are extremely overreactionary.

Very true. So?

are you suggesting that a team can not go from the best in the NFL to the worst in the NFL in 24 hours ?

Just my opinion, but I feel the next 5 games are the hardest part of our schedule and will define who we are as a team. I'm not really concerned with losing the NFC games. If it happens, it happens. I feel we need to:

(1) Win the remainder of our division games.

(2) At a minimum, split between Indy & the Bolts and win the remaining AFC games.

We do that and we should be in the running for the division.

Cincy has a tough schedule from here on out. They have to play 13 in a row starting with Tom (i use to be terrific), Indy mixed in and a difficult final 4 with 3 division games (two against Pitt) along with Denver in between.

I see a five game plan as well. However it turns out,if they go 3-2 I like their playoff chances even more.

@ Indy - L.

@TB - W

vs ATL - W

@ CIN - L

@PITT - W

vs TennW

@ NOW

vs SD - L

@MIAW

vs Jax W

@HOU W

vs CLEW

12-4. This is how I see it happening. The upside is I think we easily make the playoffs with that record, but I don't see us having good chances of winning at Cincy. That means we'd be dependent upon Cincy having a worse record than us if we wanted to win the division, otherwise we'd likely be the 5th seed.

Indy I think will be a close game, but I don't think we will win unless the defense steps up. I expect a high scoring game tbh, like 33-27 the more I think about it.

I think we'll win the rest at home except San Diego, as we always have trouble with them.

The rest of the road games are no brainers practically except NO, but I think we match up against them well, plus being in New Orleans where we won the Superbowl should provide some spark.

I could very well see us winning against Indy and losing a trap game. I don't see anything higher than 12-4.

But after I put my purple shades back on...I see 15-1 :)

Still see what I said last week. Although with obvious struggles on the road, we could easily fall to 10-6. But I don't see anything worse than that.

I also saw 12-4 only with Ls @Houston and @Bengals.

No way we lose in Superdome, you just don't bet against the Ravens in Flacco's house.

So our next 4 games are: at Steelers, vs. Titans, at Saints, vs. Chargers. We should go no worse than 7-5 after those games.

I see three paths:

1) We keep tonight's game close, even though we lose and I do think we find a way to go 10-6.

2) We lose by 13+ we'll be lucky to be playing for 10-6 and a wildcard birth the last game of the season.

3) We win this game tonight 1) coming off a tough division loss 2) being down our best corner 3) besting a hot team on a 2 game win streak (a division rival no less) and 11-5 is not unreasonable.

We'll find out if we even deserve to be in the playoffs over the next several weeks. We'll be playing 3 of 4 teams currently listed as "in the hunt" and we go up against Rivers, Brees, and can I throw Tannehill in there?

At worst, I see us losing all our away games, and finishing 10-6...

We better win all of our home games. That'll put us at 9-4. And then there are those 3 away games.....

After the way he played today... it'd be wise for you to do so

Lot of cupcake teams left but no playoffs again for us. Don't see 3 teams coming out of AFC North.

9-7

Titans W

At Saints L

SD W

At Miami L

Jax. w

At Hou L

Cleve W

This team is crap on the road vs better than average teams. Houston is a possible swing game, but so is à meaningless finale at home vs Cleveland.

Vs. Titans - W

@ Saints - L

Vs. Chargers - W

@ Dolphins - L

Vs. Jaguars - W

@ Texans - W

Vs. Browns - W

Final Record - 10-6, HOPEFULLY playoff berth.

We can't be worse than last season - that much is certain. The problem is that we saw all these improvements earlier on in the season, but they haven't really stayed in place. 9-7 or even 11-5 is possible, but honestly I'd be surprised if our record wasn't 10-6. Getting into the playoffs will be very hard, though...

All we gotta do is win at least one of these road games. Why is that too much to ask?

Almost a certainty that we'll drop the Saints game... then again, with an extra week to prepare, who knows. I think the other two road games are very winnable.
