Let's talk about Pernell McPhee

238 posts in this topic

McPhee is really an asset to our defense right now and I can see some other teams being interested in him. But there is a lot more football to play this season and we can hope that he does not get injured. Also I think his value will climb if we get into the playoffs. He will be gone if we make it to the Super Bowl again. Just think it is too early to predict what will transpire at the end of the season. Have to say though that he is really playing well and he is bringing a lot of pressure. Glad that we have him now.

McPhee is going to get paid for sure. I just hope it's the Ravens that pay him.

I agree, it all depends on whether a team like the Raiders with more cap dollars available than actual FO skill wants to throw more at him than we're prepared to fork out ourselves.

I love the guy, and as blasphemous as it may seem I'd probably rather have him extended than Torrey, but I think we'd be prepared to let him walk.

Mcphee is a URFA after this year. Safe to bet this is his last year here. He should get all of Kruger's money because he does what kruger is paid to do.

Doom is on pace for 16 sacks

McPhee is on pace for 10 sacks

Suggs is on pace for 6 sacks

and...

Ngata is on pace for 5 picks lmao

Whole back 7 on pace for 5 picks

We'd prbably have to get rid of Ngata or Doom to do that

This is starting to get into the realms of warranting its own thread, but I think there are a couple of points to Ozzie's business model of keeping the veteran FAs ticking over:

1) They're more or less a sure thing. If you don't know what a guy's like after 13 years in the NFL, then you probably shouldn't be in an NFL front office.

2) Assuming they're on the downswing of their career, there's a low cost involved. You don't have to invest a high pick in them (so said picks can go to run-stuffing DTs and Alabama guys, which bust at a lower rate than WRs) and don't have to worry about paying them franchise-bloke money (so said cap money can go to run-stuffing DTs and Alabama guys).

I think that second point is huge. Be fun if we could grab Dez Bryant, and I'd probably rather that over anyone in the draft, but you'd best believe we'd be paying him "Dez Bryant money" and I can't see that working with the second part of Ozzie's business model.

hey, one day maybe we run out of roster spots and we got run stuffing DT form Alabama starting at every position.

I'd cut Ngata to sign McPhee. An extension like what Suggs got would be ideal.

That's true, but we got three starting qualty olbs as it is.

McPhee is more versatile than Suggs or Dumervil. He does most of his pass rushing from the interior of the DL. It obviously helps having players like Suggs and Dumervil on the edges, but I dont think its a stretch to say McPhee is the key to our pass rush this season.

Yeah, I'd be treating McPhee almost as a DT or a "joker" DLman who gets shuffled around as we see fit.

He'd be my top priority unrestricted free agent right now.  Prior to the season, Torrey was the only UFA that I wanted to keep.  Now, however, it gets more complicated.  McPhee, Daniels (depending on Pitta's staus), and Forsett are all becoming wants.  I really do hope there is money for McPhee, because I think he's the key to this pass rush.

You'd also have to ask Webb to take a pay cut and there's no resigning Torrey. Imo we can extend Ngata to provide some cap relief. I'd like to see both Suggs and Ngata retire as Ravens.

Read below. Pressure up the middle. Not provided by Suggs or Doom.

Spot on.

Jack of all trades and a must resign. Use franchize tag if you have to.

And that would be true... if he's an every down player. $4-5M for a situational pass rusher, who is currently and has been playing less than half the defensive snaps, is awfully steep, and is essentially a likely unaffordable luxury item for a team like the Ravens.

I know that if he brought as much to the table as you seem to think he does, he'd be playing a lot more than 45% of the snaps...

Kruger split snaps with Upshaw, was a situational pass rusher and only decent for 1 year and got paid. And plenty of fans on here actually wanted the Ravens to pay him smh. While he's gone back to being his normal self of the previous 3 years now.

It's a shame McPhee isn't on the Pro Bowl voting ballad.

Really like the tune still on that one though

I definitely wouldn't. For starters, they don't even play the same position, and a 3 down run stopper is worth a heck of a lot more to this team than a situational pass rusher (which is what McPhee is).

Plus, its entirely possible that some of McPhee's dominance so far has a LOT to do with the defensive lineman playing with him.

Ballad is a song. You said ballad. You meant ballot. That's all.

LOL. Oh. Well thanks for being the one to tell me. I had no idea what was going on.
