to do list for the ravens:

1- stop the slow starts.

2- end lapses by the secondary.

3- get young WRs involved like aiken and brown.

Yes, yes and yes. Let me add one more. Run the ball effectively as we had in the previous three games. Plus, protect Flacco (but that's a given).

Not necessarily the opposite on defense. Definitely not as strong though. On defense our major issues are covering tight ends and rushing the passer.

Our corners are outstanding. I believe that Davis, Toler, and Butler are a top 3 trio in the league. Our defensive linemen are very good, and we do a good job stopping the run.

We are weak at rushing the passer, and losing Mathis really shows. We are also weak covering tight ends. Our inside linebackers are good run stoppers, but have issues in coverage.

This should be a good game, and a good measuring stick for both teams.

Colts have a very good corners and a decent d-line, but are extremely suspect at LB and S.

Yeah maybe total opposite was selling it short - on the PPG and YPG average your defense is about middle of the league this early in the season.  But I guess my point was we've already faced Cleveland, Carolina, and Pittsburgh, who are all within 2 points of your average, plus Cinci who isn't giving up anything, and actually so far scored half the points Cincy has allowed this season.  I just have been hearing from a bunch of people that they think it's going to be an Indy beat down of us, and I see it as much more even than that.

I would not be comfortable saying either team will walk away with this game. I believe it will be a really close game. It is possible that a team could win by 10 if there is a late turnover for touchdown. Probably within 3 points though.

As far as the stats, for me it is too early to tell or really use. The first quarter of the season is really just a feeling out portion of the season. I believe this game comes at just the right time. Both teams have somewhat found their identity, and this game will definitely tell us something about each team.

It is a very good match-up.

I agree. We have really missed Freeman in the middle, and Mathis was a huge blow to our pass rushing abilities.

Our safety's are not top tier. We put our corners in man-to-man situations most of the time.

Mike Adams is a clever, veteran safety who has been a huge help at safety, but he is obviously not a long-term solution. Even when Landry was active (suspended), he was a huge liability in the passing game.

I expect your tight ends and backs to have a good day catching the ball, as this has been our weakness all year.

In my mind, this game will come down to turnovers and starting field position. And it is true that we can say that about a lot of games, but I believe it is especially true in this match-up.

I don't like the match-up. Luck has been on fire for the last two weeks. He has grown up since he lost to us in a playoff game in 2013 in BMore. He's a baller, rather than a bawler. Further, Chuck Pagano

knows most, if not all, of our defensive tendencies. Finally, Indy should be very familiar with

Kubiak's offense, given that Houston and Indy had to face each other twice a year ever since Chuck has been in Indy. On the plus side of the ledger, Indy's defense should have their hands full with the

Smith Brothers. So, what am I missing? In order to win, we will have to rack up at least 35 points.

I'll stick with the upset --- Ravens 35 Indy 31.

Indy is a good team, but a far cry from invincible. I think our corners will be fine, the safeties have been the problem so far, that's what I'm worried about. From what I've seen, they give Shipley a lot of help inside from the Guards, so we'll see of that gives Suggs and Doom some match ups outside to bring the heat.

Offensively, we should be able to move on their defense, their most solid D lineman is Redding..

Special teams..we pretty much beat anybody on special teams

Overall, don't be surprised of Luck makes a few big plays with our safeties back there picking dandelions..but the front 7 gets them off the field when they needo it late.

Still though, I thonk Flacco and the offense have another big day and we come home victorious once again.

Indy lost it's first two games... at home,    but won their last two...  away...against the Titans and the Jags...  If we can get to him and disrupt Luck...  We're good.  And we have never had that problem in the past.  The two good teams that they have played, they have lost.  As long as our defense holds up, we are going to be pk...  I mean, they allowed the Jags 17 points.  Denver 44.    If we can pit points on the board we have a very good shot.

Is he? Because he put up a lot of points against less than stellar defenses? Maybe he is as good as the (supposed) experts say, or maybe the defenses he faced were just that bad. As a lot of the fans of both teams have been saying, this next game will show us a lot about the teams.

Ehhh I'd think someone would have to feign ignorance of Luck's complete body of work while simultaniously and somewhat disingenuously focusing on a two game sample size from this season in order to wonder about his capabilities vis-a-vis putting points on anyone. IMO the kid is good....however, I am an Indianapolis Colts fan. ;)

Yep. That'll be the game. If you all can get to him....not rattle him, imo he can't be rattled when he's as big as a LB himself...and disrupt 'his' game, you can beat the Colts. However, the Colts secondary is real. If this turns into ground and pound, it's anybody's game.

Hmmmm interesting. Your DBs are actually in trouble IF the front seven cannot generate consistent pressure.

What could become a big key for your offense is your TEs. The Colts LBs are horrible at TE coverage. That could be gold for you all.

Since I don't pay much attention to the Colts, how are your guys' safeties?

I think Luck is the best young quarterback in the league and on his way to being the best in the league. It's unfair the Colts got Elway, then Manning, and now Luck.

Last time we played the Colts, it was a playoff game. Yeah it was our SB winning team, and Luck's first year. But we got good pressure on Luck and we scored on that defense. I think we'll be fine.

That was three years ago, the worst team Luck has had and the best you've had.. It'll be a great game but you won't win simply because you beat a completely different team three years ago.

IT was 2012... but that's OK...  colts are giving up some points to some really good tams.  And we are a really good team.  Lost at home to the Broncos 44-17?  They have won their away games...  but to the Titans and the Jags....  It's not a gimme for the colts.

We(Baltimore) didn't get Elway, he didn't wanna play here after we drafted him remember?

This game is going to get ugly. Hoyer looked all world against our secondary, I can only imagine how big of a day Luck will have, I could see Luck having a career TD day against that suspect 2ndary. Really, hope I am totally wrong here.

Shoot, right. I'm now thinking of Denver getting Elway and Manning

No disrespect to the Indie Team, but the only way we lose this game is if we beat ourselves. No turnovers, extra team breakdowns and/or excessive penalties and we got this.

It's a simple game of narratives:

  • 2 fairly equal offensives
  • 1 with run and pass (Ravens) proficiency and 1 with pass only (Indie Team)
  • 1 with good defense (Ravens) and 1 with questionable defense (Indie Team)

We Got This. GO Ravens!

How was the game from your point of view (Ravens fan)? I was at my daughter's softball game all day Sunday and was only able to check scores as the day went on.

I read some insight on a Colts board which post saying things like this:

Colts moved the ball pretty well but turned the ball over 4 times

Colts should have scored more points

Colts defense held Flacco and company in check for the most part

Ravens started slow, made a run late

Anyways, was just looking for insight from a Raven fan how the game went.....

I think your assessment is on the mark. It was a very competitive game which the Indie team came-out with the win. Hope your daughter won her softball game. If you want to hear what more Ravens fans thought of the game maybe you should visit the 'after game' thread for more insight. There's plenty of conversation there.
