Official (vent ) Talk about the Panthers game

No question, they've played solidly. A complete 180 from last year.

Yup. As a result, Flacco doesnt look like a buffoon and the run game is beasting!

Oline is MVP this season so far.

Oline is playing fantastic.  Kubiak also deserves praise for putting this team (and O-line) in a position to succeed by utilizing our strengths.  Kubiak looks at ease with our pieces whereas Caldwell & Cam looked lost.

what happened to pierce?

probably the coaching staff decided to ease him back from injury as Forsett and Taliaferro proved last week and again this week they can share and shoulder the load quite well together. No reason to rush him back in if he's not needed - get him healthy and have a nasty one, two, three running back combo.

Very proud of the young LT stepping up and fulfilling his assignment. It felt like panthers had a assignment to confuse Hurst, but soon as it stopped working, they moved away from trying fancy pass rush scheme.

Harbaugh said he wasn't 100% and was there in case of emergency only.  They thought he could play, just not at full strength.  There was no reason to play him with LT and Forsett doing so well.

I actually posted this in the Elam thread we have and added the fact that he's a safety being asked to play cornerback. Safeties don't have the natural thought to turn their head and play the ball since the play is usually in front of them. I'm not worried about how he played the ball because his coverage was about as solid as any of our corners have had this season.

Yeah, that's true. A lot of CBs tend to play the WR coming out of college anyway. It's not something that just  happens overnight. I'm really not critical of that aspect of Elam's game. My biggest gripe on Elam is his football IQ and his ability to diagnose plays. Those are my real concerns for him. Oh, and his shoddy tackling. Can't forget that. I think if he cleaned up two of those things he would be OK. I'm actually not sure if he is being coached that well, TBH. The shoddy tackling should be fixed by the coaches. They need to get that out of him. As for his play diagnosis and football IQ, those should improve with experience and watching game tape. He needs to be in the film room if he's not already, and by the looks of it, he needs more time there.

I think what impressed me most was how easy some of the receptions we got today were. I've thought to myself for awhile "why cant we do those easy slants, quick come backs, and quick out plays that Peyton and Brady do so often." With Kubiak here its just so much more fluid, every pass isn't a struggle to move the ball 5 yards. I hope he keeps going back to that quick slant, just not with stone hands Jacoby.

Also, I'm not going to let the safeties off the hook, but you have one receiver on that side of the field on Benjamin's touchdown catch. Why can't Pees just do whatever soft zone he wants  to play but allow Jimmy to play 1 on 1 on Benjamin. There's no guarantees but I'm pretty confident if he allowed Jimmy to play man there Benjamin doesn't score a touchdown there, or at the very least not a wide open one. Other than that I actually thought Pees called a more agressive than normal gameplan. I was at the game and this is the most 5+ man rushes I've seen from the Ravens in awhile. We're gonna need pressure if we hope to contain Luck next week

fighting minor injuriers while Forsett and Lorenzo have hot hands. Easy Choice to sit him for rest. I don't think the team is ready to wash their hands of him yet but its getting there the way our news guys are playing.

Great game. Enjoyed it a lot. Still worried about our secondary. Especially happy with the way that Hurst played. We have a dominate O-line and I for one am loving it. Other note: Good to see Marlon being used again. Was pleased that he came back for that pass but still was aware of where the 1st down marker was. Maybe he has been listening to Steve Smith Sr.

Great job guys. Keep it going!!

Mosley with 11tkls , 1 tfl , and 2 PDs. Kid is serious. Perenninal pro-bowler and thats not even an overreaction.

To address your two statements I bolded,

1. What's funny is that I've done that on Madden (25 being the latest one to play) to limit my opponent's #1 and I've gotten mixed results, but usually positive.

2. Is it me of does Pees have a propensity to be more aggressive when we're at home?

Yeah, hopefully he'll be getting his first sack and Int soon.

HUGE shout out to the offensive line so far. Three games in which Flacco hasn't been sacked. In those three games, he's thrown for 6TDs and only ONE INT. I'm loving this offense so far and I STILL think it's a work-in-progress.

Jacoby Jones just isn't the same player. I didn't watch the whole game, but I saw with to suggest that he's really just still inconsistent and Kubiak brings out the worst in him. Jones doesn't have hands...He has four feet and now he looks like he's slowing down.

Unfortunately, he seems to be very consistent - cannot catch anything. I started being nervous on punt returns, too.

I think the defense is competitive enough to keep us in games. it just seems to have the propensity to give up a lot of easy completions and plays.

My hope/concern is every year we think the offense is turning a corner only to pull a Jekel and Hyde the next week. I know this is a new system and a lot of new faces, I just hope we continue to play average-great. If we score at least 21 points a game we're in decent position to win. Things are looking up, but it's about consistency. Can Flacco and Kubiak continue to guide this offense in the right direction? Flacco's on pace for 28 touchdowns, 8 picks, and 4200 yards, which would be all career bests. I'm hoping it happens...trying not to be apprehensive about it lol.

Lets not forget Hurst would have been a 2nd/3rd rounder. Dude played great today! Dont think I heard his name once!

Flacco balled out.

Sr, need not say anything there.

Torrey is PI king and so happy he got a TD.

Mosley, Suggs, Jimmy, Doom, McPhee and Upshaw are a force.

Forsett is a shifty little back sort of like, never mind...

JJ sorta sucks.

Elam is lost, no matter the position he's playing for that particular play.

1. haha that's sort of where I got the idea, kinda... Obviously not going to base NFL off a video game, but I think of it like a box and 1 zone in Basketball. If you have the luxury of a lock down corner, why not allow Smith to play man on that player and then build whatever combination of man and zone around him. Especially against a team like the falcons if Jimmy can take away Julio and we can scheme to cover roddy white and others I feel it could be effective. Then again I'm not an NFL defensive coordinator so what do I know.

Also I think you're right about Pees, maybe he feels more confident with the crowd noise or something but he does seem to be slightly more aggressive at home.

Also just want to give two shout outs:

Joe Flacco: currently (obviously not counting the game tonight or tomorrow night) FOURTH in the nfl in passing yards. Hes at 1,055 yards, 7 TDs, and 2 Ints (one wasn't really his fault, got hit while throwing in Cleveland and Torrey was likely open). Kubiak's system really seems to be settling in well here and I'm looking for Flacco to continue his big season so far.

Torrey Smith: Yeah he only had two catches for 50+ yards and a TD today, but if you really watched the game Torrey drew 2-3 PI/holding calls and could have easily had 2 more had the Refs been watching the same game we were. He may not have broken out on the stat sheet but he played perhaps his best game of the season so far today

People love to call him a one-trick pony, and it may not be far from the truth, but it's a pretty good trick. It's unbelievable to me how much the defenders struggle to cover him legally, especially when they know exactly what he's gonna do every time.

Gee, protect Flacco and give him a reliable playmaker, and he plays lights out. Who woulda thought...

I feel like you only need to do the former there, and the latter will, inevitably, come with Flacco's play.

Having said that, Smith, Sr. is a beast. I love it. Every time somebody says his name to me, I always respond the exact same way, "I still can't believe he's on our team."

Maybe so, but still love the guy. He is magic at crunch time

But is he worth the contract we gave him? (I don't even remember the details of it, but I thought it was a bit high, especially given the lack of production this year.)
