No NFL in LONDON!

21 posts in this topic

If this topic doesn't go anywhere fine, but why is Roger so "H" bent on putting a game (team) in London when the league is out of control here! This is not fair to any team that has to make this trip and for what, money? Just want to throw this out there and get your feedback. Football? NO!! N stands for national! just my opinion, talk to me, us, Rodger? He don't care!

I think it's more of a ploy to get foreign countries interested - not necessarily something they'll act on. As long as the prospect of adding a London team is dangled in front of them, it'll keep Britain interested and buying.

This makes a lot of sense - a carrot with which to help grow the game globally (and provided the Ravens aren't used in this growth you'll hear no complaints from me).

Logistically a team there would be an untenable nightmare that's not even close to worth what it would cost, so I don't think any owner would put their money where their mouth is and actually do it.

And of course it's a nice way for an owner to get the leverage to hold a city hostage (of sorts) and get what they want - kinda like what a couple of teams are doing with LA now.

He's hellbent because it means more money.  The NFL is a business and just like most large businesses a common goal is to expand globally.  BIgger Market = More Revenues.

This is probably more a push by the owners than it is Goodell.  Even if a new commish were ever to take over, I doubt the goal of global expansion would change.

I could see the schedule getting done but I think its most unfair to players drafted by London.  They would be compensated nicely, but they would be forced to move overseas away from family/friends.  It would be hard to attract free agents as well.

I for one don't want the Raven's crossing the pond! A league of their own? Won't work we tried it once! Let's just all agree to disagree, and Roger, well.... fix what's broke! Quit!!! JMO!!

Thank you, thought I was the only one who saw this!!

I couldn't agree more, friend - I still recall the WLAF, and later the NFL Europa; had it benn more of a success, it would have still been around.

As for the world playing American football, I confine myself to the Senior World Championship, sanctioned by IFAF, and played quadrennially.  Next year it will be played.

Trying to get a NFL team in London is just bad. I like how it is right now, a game or 2 in Europe maybe even more in the future. Btw London is not even where most NFL fans live, it's Germany

If i was an NFL Player I would never want to play for a Franchise outside the US/Canada. I wann play in front of my Fans, not a crowd of people who support every team, i wouldnt want to fly to the US and back on a weekly basis.

they wouldn't do it like that. They'd split it into blocks. They'd just have to.

4 home games, 4 away games, 4 home, 4 away.

They'd also have to give every team an extra bye week to smooth it over. 18 week season, 2 byes, one after you've been to London.

In the next couple of years, I can see the Ravens going to London, but only as the visiting team, because of the strong fan support, they wouldn't take away a regular season home game from us. Its teams like the Raiders and Jaguars that don't have great support who will lose a game.

About a team in LA there will be at least one by 2015 or 2016 at the latest. Probably the Rams, if there are two it will probably be the Chargers, depending if they get a new stadium built in San Diego or not. The Raiders could either stay in Oakland, or move to San Antonio or St. Louis if the Rams leave. I think Oakland could keep the baseball and football teams but not both.

This is not the right time, I understand Roger having a game in England to expand interest of the NFL in Europe, however I don't feel the NFL is ready yet for a permanent team over in London.

As a British Ravens fan (there are a fair few of us over here) I have to say I love the NFL coming over here, the games always sell out extremely quickly and in just the last three or so years the interest in NFL in Britain has increased dramatically. It's on TV weekly during the on season, we watch the Super Bowl live now and as it goes on to three AM over here, most of us even take a day of work on the Monday just to be able to watch it! Just a few years ago all of this was totally unheard of.

I think it's a great thing for a great sport that sadly doesn't gain too much interest outside of America, more money will be pumped back into the NFL which is only a good thing and if it ramps up interest in the sport over here and British leagues reach high enough skill levels then the international market for players will widen up and the top players will certainly want to play in the best league in the world, the NFL, so again that will feed back in.

I do understand your points of view though, it must suck having your local team play games in another country which you would have to miss or pay loads to travel over, which is why it is good they rotate the visiting teams.

As for a permanent NFL team here in London, even I think that is crazy, the jet lag alone from flying back and forth for games would just kill the players.

But yeah, even in Britain there are Ravens ;)

Would be the worst idea ever in my opinion. No player would want to go there, because they'd rather play in front of their fans and family, or at least nearby.

A London Team would have a hard time signing free agents and re-sign their own.

And the schedule would offer a huge task. Also the London players would constantly be exhausted after like Week 12 because of regularly flying around for 10+ hours, not even talking about a huge jet lag after every away game

Horrible idea and I hope this does not happen, and I am from Europe
