NFL Sponsors Pulls Ads from Ravens/Vikings Games ( threaten)

48 posts in this topic

So what kind of ads are we supposed to get in their place?  Local ads from the local furniture/plumber businesses or ads from Ravens' sponsors?

Since neither player will be on the field, this makes no sense.

I think they're upset bc of the way the Ravens' organization handled the situation after Rice's incedent.

As the old saying goes, the cover up is worse than the crime.

so if we make it to the SB they wont show any ads?

Its only certain sponsors pulling their ads... not nearly all of them. My guess is its a handful, and those ads will be replaced by others.

And again, I haven't seen a list of who these sponsors are. If its a sponsor like Budweiser, its a big deal. If its a sponsor like Joe's Crab Shack, its not a big deal.

I'll tell you which sponsors pulled - the ones who believe their financial gain would suffer. The smaller companies who need the exposure more won't pull because they'll still get more ad revenue money. Unless you believe in fairy tales, where companies do things simply "to take a moral stand".

The sponsors haven't been named, presumably because they don't want to make a fuss when their ads are inevitably reinstated.

If they really wanted to make a stand they'd pull their ads from the NFL period, but they won't because ultimately the NFL rules all. Unless it's announced that a major sponsor withdraws it's a non-issue.

If these sponsors are so concerned about tarnishing their image then they should pull their ads totally from the NFL.  Of course they won't do that because the NFL as well as their sponsors are money hungry.

If I were a betting man (and I am), I'd say it might be ads for products/services primarily used by women.

I can't imagine that a large, male demographic-oriented advertiser would pull their ads (such as beer companies) over this. They might voice displeasure with it, but that's probably just a warning.

I can't think of any female-oriented products that are typically advertised during game slots, but I'm sure there's a couple, and my guess is that these are the one's being pulled. A company that is in the business of marketing to women probably doesn't want to offend that demographic by being shown during a Ravens game.

So then... does this mean LESS commercials? I'm all for it!

Holla! TD, extra point - 2 minute commercials - kickoff, touchback - 2 minute commercials.

Exactly. I don't see a problem here.

It's probably like Chick-fil-A.

They're offending women by thinking we can't distinguish an ad from a DV issue surrounding players who aren't even on the field.

If they really wanted awareness about it though, they'd identify themselves. But they won't because they don't want any scrutiny when they reinstate their ads.

Ha, I was just saying something about this the other day.  I missed the the Ravens game and watched it with NFL rewind condensed viewing and it was 38 minutes long.  Needless to say theres way too many commercials.  I don't think they will have a hard time filling the few empty slots now available.

The only major sponsor I've heard that has done anything is P&G. They have pulled their ads during the Breast Awareness Campaign in October. Heard this on NFL Network I believe. I'm not quite sure what their aim is behind that, as it seems to send a mixed message, definitely not a smart PR move on their part, imo.

Yup.  Some people are not happy, unless they are up in arms about something.  The focus has turned to hitting the NFL/Teams in the wallet, even if the teams have made the right call in removing players, something still must be done!!! LMAO

I've been noticing this since the 1st incident broke. There has been a complete black-out of the Ravens. I don't even see our team being represented in the MNF, TNF or SNF pre-game trailers (unless I replay at slow-slow motion) although they'd been regularly featured for years and the Ravens 2013 Thanksgiving game broke previous ratings records. Those advertisers and the NFL are in damage-control mode and that shouldn't surprise anyone. Ad retainers and contracts have been altered to compensate for this. No one will lose a dime. The advertisers most likely have been given the option to move and re-target their ad dollars to games and teams that aren't currently controversial and the NFL is a 501C non-profit.

When I think about it - It's a shame that the advertisers pulling-out and burying their heads in the sand on these issues didn't change their ad campaigns to bring the support for fighting these issues more to light. What a platform to invoke cultural change. Maybe it's because most of these advertisers have even more of a negative history on these same offenses. Sadly, the NFL's out-performs the rest of the country statistically. So...give me a commercial break.

When these sponsors pull ads, it sends a message to me that they really do not care at all about the problem that DV is in our society. They are just afraid of PR blowback and their possible lost of revenue. Do not know about other women, but I am more offended by their hiding out. If they really wanted to do something they would pledge a percentage of the revenue they get for a week or for the cancer awareness month to be given to agencies that are helping fight DV.

They won't do that cause there are still far too many of us that watch football in general.

I love how Nike cares about children's welfare. I mean, they care so much they're leading advocates of fixing oppressive child labour laws.

Oh wait...

Well, firstly, again, we're talking some unnamed "source" and unnamed sponsors so I'm not even putting too much credibility in this just yet.

Secondly, any sponsor that cherry picks Vikings & Ravens (when the offending players are not even playing) and leaves out the 49ers & Panthers (when the offending players are playing) don't deserve NFL air time anyway. This very fact also makes me take this report with a grain of salt.

Thirdly, less commercials? I'm all for that.

Good. The less money the NFL makes the better the odds the owners will get rid of that bozo of a commish.

We can only hope
