Eugene Monroe to have minor knees surgery out indefinitely

67 posts in this topic

Mm well there goes the solid O-line. I don't trust Hurst AT ALL, so it looks like KO's moving to LT. I'm sad to say it but, it looks like the return of Gino Gradkowski. Just when we needed Monroe the most.

Whoa, I don't think that will happen at all. KO is his best and guard and it's a disservice to put him at LT when we have Hurst who is the LT backup and Reid who can play 'swing'. Neither are great options but that's what we've got.

Let's go Hurst. Get well soon Monroe. We can make do over the next three weeks. Tampa and Atlanta could put a good pass rusher on that side but we def need Monroe back before our game with Cincy.

Time to see what we have in Hurst.  He really improved over the course of the preseason but it's definitely not ideal.

Well... hopefully having a beast in KO next to him will help.

You could clearly see Monroe was hampered against Cleveland, so hopefully this helps him come back even stronger

For what it's worth, Hurst earned positive marks in pass blocking from PFF from week two to four and improved every single weak. He was terrible in run blocking. All of this holds true while playing next to Shipley and having Gradkowski make the calls. I have faith he can hold up for the short term, but Monroe is clearly the long term, so get healthy

I'm not really concerned it's not like Flacco has always had  a very solid left tackle  to protected for all his career and we run a offense that requires Flacco to get the ball out fast unlike our previous offense.

This is a big loss.  Missing that crucial high quality back-up swingman too.  Hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised.  But against Carolina is a tough place to start.

Can LT play LT?

Dang we were finally beginning to get some constancy with a solid group playing together and building chemistry. At least its only a few weeks, but still. Definitely sucks.

On the bright side we thought we might have to help Wagner at RT but he has been a beast. No doubt we will need to give Hurst some help but one weak link on an offensive line can be masked. Last year we had 3 or 4 on any given Sunday.

Its fine. The ravens ranked 1st in pass pro and 8th in run blocking according to pff. Losing Monroe is a hit, but it is by no means a crushing sky is falling blow. Running the ball more (which we should do anyway) and emphasizing screens + quicker throws can slow down the pass rush.

I'm all good with Monroe missing a month to get fully healthy so we have him, than to potentially lose him for the season or risk his career.

This Sucks! Jumbo-Left.  And Mr. Hurst will need to shift it into high gear from the get-go.

(had to throw that in for all the car enthusiasts)

This is obviously a total assumption, but I am guessing Monroe had PRP. This is often what I think of when someone says minor knee surgery. If this is what it is, he will be back in 1-3 games - especially with his work ethic.

Looking at the schedule we could 'survive' with Hurst for the next 4 games. Carolina, Indy, Bucs and Falcons really have no edge rushers. Lets hope Hurst steps up and provides average play at the least.

More adversity.. what else is new. We're probably going to need a TE on Hurst's side for pass protection, which then takes away from Kubiak using that TE as a weapon.

Let's hope Flacco doesn't get killed during this stretch of games

If Hurst holds up, though, he'll be our steal of the year.

3-4 weeks isnt bad, better now then later. plus aside carolina the other 3 teams indy, atl , tb arent that scary up front

Silver lining is... if the 3-4 week timetable holds up, after the Panthers game, the Ravens have a fairly "easier" schedule when it comes to defensive lines, and in particular, pass pressure. Indy, TB and Atlanta aren't overly strong at rushing the passer, so perhaps its at least a decent time of year to have this taken care of.

I'm not really worried about this adversely affecting our run game too much, as we've already shown we've got four guys who can run block strongly on a weekly basis. I'm more concerned about pass protection.

Would seem to make sense to me, at least initially, to probably see more of Gilmore in pass protection on the left side as the blocking TE. He obviously figures to see an expanded role with Pitta out anyway, and I think having more six-man fronts with Gilmore and running more 3-wide sets seems to be the a possibility for this offense in the short-term.

I'd bet that was part of the plan. Get it done now, and healed up going into the home stretch, as opposed to playing hurt, and having it get worse towards the end of the season when we really need him.
