A Quick Look At How Kubiak's Doing With this Offense

40 posts in this topic

I'm seeing pretty good production on field with Flacco.  The ball is getting moved - at least between the 20's - better.  Kubiak's offenses were always about moving the ball with high percentage pass plays then pounding it in the end zone with an RB,

As far as the red zone stall, give it some time.  It's the first year w/a new offense with few new faces.  If I recall right, 2013 was worse than this year for finishing drives in a TD.  There were other years like that too.

The offense is efficient. No where near as bad as last year. Not too much concerned about it going forward. Now the defense.............

I think we'll get better in the redzone, its just a small sample size right now. Also, I'd like to know how the teams we've played are in Redzone defense, I'd say they're probably in the upper part of the league. There's always both sides of the coin to consider. Flacco has missed a few throws in the endzone and some have been drops also. As a team, they all need to be better. The oline hasnt always played particularly well , and has been pushed back a bit in  the goal-2 go. I do like the wideopen TD's with misdirection though.

Was thinking the same thing; Bengals, Steelers, Browns must have some league leading redzone defenses. I'd like to see the offense score as many TDs as JT has FGs. Last year we scored 26 TDs to Tucker's 38 FGs.

Callahan answered that on the last page. They are all average Redzone defenses.

I think it'll get better now that Flacco seems to be getting on the same page as Daniels and Juice, both of whom could be huge assets in the redzone. Also, I'd like to see the Ravens try to mix in Marlon Brown and Gilmore in a bit more due to their height advantages over most defenders (Brown being 6'5" and Gilmore being 6'6")

Fortunately, we're getting off to pretty quick starts in games, offensively.  That's a good turnaround from last year.

First drives of games we are averaging 10 plays (2nd best), 57 yards (3rd best), and we've scored 2 out of 3 times (T-3rd best).  We are also 4th in time of possession (4:57 per opening drive).

Last year we were bottom 5 in ALL of those categories.

Callahan....pls tell me where you draw your info from. I use the basic NFL/ESPN Stats tab. Thanks.

I use a combination of sites, but since you didn't mention it, you should check out pfref.com, they have the most data and the most user friendly tools for filtering out and finding what you want.

I agree.  I want TDs over Fgs  I am a strong advocate of Juszczyk to be TE on Joes left side and add protection or be an option in the red zone

Callahan 09 has excellent analytical insight..  The red zone scoring should be TDs not FGs.  Would it be crime to use schemes that the Broncos and Pats have? It seems they have little difficulty earning 6 rather than 3. Just an observation.

BTW: Last weekend my friends picked me up for a visit to a sports bar.  The barmaid did not want to switch over to our game due to a customer preference for the Oakland-Pats game. No NFL red zone.  I suffered until the end of our game when Cundiff did not get his and Tucker secured our win.

We were watching the Denver game and my Packer bud Ed noted that all Manning does is throw short passes usually never than 30 yards downfield.

This weekend I hope we score early, sustain drives, eat clock and choke their offensce in the 4th quarter.  I want Taliafero to get some and Jus to score two in the red zone. .

So far I am happy with Kubiak calling plays. There are some things to improve on like the red zone but from what I have seen so far, that shouldn't be too hard to figure out. It is just nice to get some smart play calling in here as it is refreshing to see guys put in position to succeed.
