1 guy I miss/1 guy I wish

74 posts in this topic

No one is debating his importance, but no one is hyping up the throws Joe made, the catches and returns Jacoby had, the interceptions Corey had, how amazing the offensive line was, etc. When you think about it, Boldin did well, but you're over hyping him

Perhaps a bit. But still, even dialing it down a bit, I like doomie but I'd rather not have him and have Boldin back (again, acknowledging that the two moves were more or less unrelated.)

I miss Boldin... but, only because i want to watch him, Flacco and Smitty manhandle secondaries.

I wish we could shake the injury bug for the remainder of the season.

Ed  Reed (water covers 70 percent of the world and Ed covers the rest), you just never knew where he would turn up.

I also miss Shannon Sharpe

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place for this. I remember there use to be a section to talk about other teams/league stuff but I couldn't find it. I watched almost all of the Jets/Bears game tonight and immediately realized there is 1 guy I miss and 1 guy I wish.

Miss: Rex Ryan

The Jets exotic blitzes and ability to not only get pressure on Cutler but force a big fumble in a big spot is huge. I know the Jets lost the game, but I just have to think with the personnel the ravens have if Rex were still the DC here he could be wreaking havoc on people. With the solid defensive line, Dumervil and Suggs, and the speed at middle linebacker, not to mention the bevy of safeties, I feel like Rex would have a field day with this personnel. Not to mention Rex might actually trust Jimmy and simply put him on an island, drawing up much better coverage for the rest of the secondary.

Wish: Kyle Fuller

He was picked 14 overall, just 3 spots before Mosely. Now don't get me wrong, I love the Mosely pick and he has certainly lived up to his first round pick and then some, but with our depleted secondary I cant help but wish we had this guy. He would be a day 1 starter for us across from Jimmy. According to ESPN at least, tonight he had 7 tackles, 2 PDs, and 1 INT. That's not new for him, he actually already has 3 picks on the year, 2 of which came against the 49ers.

His stat line isn't even close to telling the story though. For those who watched the game, this kid was all over the field and Gruden was pretty much saying Fuller's name on every single defensive play. With Tillman out for the Bears, I believe this guy is the Bears number 2 corner now but could be passing Jennings for that number 1 spot by years end. Again I am not complaining because obviously we never had the chance to get Fuller being picked 3 spots before, and I believe Mosely is a special player, but I just cant help but imagine what if Fuller fell to us and how different our secondary might look

You mean based off of one game versus Geno Smith? lol come on...look at the tape Fuller is hanging on the WR's for life on some of the plays..and of course in relief VS the great Colin Kaep whom isnt half the QB the media thinks he is as soon as a rookie comes in a game they target him right away and he made a play..good? so far...HOF? too soon

Kalil is really struggling lately remember Matt Vensel? he is up that way now and has been tweeting about his performances

Ryan Kalil, who plays for the Panthers, is the best center in the game. Matt Kalil is an inconsistent left tackle for the Vikings.

Rex is a good choice for the miss but I'm gonna say Ed Reed.Reed's presence in the secondary would put an end to the deep passes against us this year.Teams didn't even bother trying us deep when Ed was here. When they did have the balls to try going deep on us,the first thing to pop in my mind when the ball left the qb's hand was "I wonder if Reed's gonna run this one back for a td".I already knew the ball would be intercepted. Now when I see a qb winding up for a deep ball I think "oh crap, somebody must be wide open".That was the first thing that popped in my head last sunday when I saw Hoyer going deep to Hawkins(I think it was him) on that play Elam and Jimmy chased him down.We need a new ball hawk at the free safety position!

My wish is going to be Dez Bryant.I would've said Calvin Johnson but I decided to keep it reasonable lol.If only we would've stopped being greedy pick hoarders for one year and recognized the talent that was drafted one spot in front of us.We had just traded for Boldin that year so I didn't get too upset when we allowed Dallas to jump ahead of us and get him,but deep inside I knew both Thomas and Bryant would go on to be special.I got the same feeling when the vikings jumped ahead of us and grabbed Cordarelle Patterson.Patterson hasn't gone on to become a perennial 1,000+ yard double digit td guy yet but he will once Minnesota gets their qb situation figured out.My two problems with this front office is the fact that they hoard picks on draft day and they devalue the wide receiver position. They're good enough to not get hurt by the pick hoarding but they're not good enough at building a wr corp to get away with letting top 10 talent like Bryant,Patterson and Thomas pass us by.If we had Bryant and both Smith's right now we'd be looked at as the best team in the league. It would also boost Flacco's stats in a major way.

Guy I miss, Ed Reed, watching our Safety situation right now, he would help so much too.

Guy I wish. Kyle Fuller, I am a bit biased here but he has been great so far and we could certainly use the corner depth.

I think both of those are pretty good and we were so close to getting Dez as well, still not quite over that one.

Still doesn't compare to Boldin

We payed Boldin 7 million a year to never.come close to having an 80 catch season..or 1,000 yds receiving. People pine for Boldin, but he would disappear for 2-3 games at a time before having a quarter or two where he would bust loose.

He had a nice playoff run, but you can't HONESTLY say that his production was worth what he was getting paid.

Also, the Ravens didn't trade him to clear soace for Dumervil. Dumervil fell into our lap unexpectedly, and Ozzie jumped on the opportunity. Boldin was cut because we needed desperately to fill several big holes in order to remain competerive and in turn they were able to have enough.room to get Daryl Smith, Monroe, Dumervil ect..not to mention a few emergency stop gaps along the way in Dallas Clark and Brandon Stokley.

Ozzie got way more value out of that 7 million than what Boldin's track record here showed he would provide on the field.

I can say, Kyle Fuller was the number #1 guy I wanted us to pick. Glad to see I get some right.

Well I wasn't calling Fuller perfect, after all he is a rookie, and I don't think I came anywhere close to calling him a HOF...that's a pretty drastic jump you got from my post. But you called Fuller's play so far good yourself. Look at our secondary besides Jimmy smith so far...you're telling me you wouldn't want another guy whose playing good this year. Also your right, rookies get targeted, but its hard to say Fuller hasn't held his own as a rookie so far.
