Kinda was hoping we would give Dustin Keller a try out but figured we would promote Supernaw.

We did spend a 3rd rounder on Gilmore so I suppose it would be nice to see if we can get some production out of him. But this is definitely Juice's time to shine as a jack of all trades FB, pretty excited for that actually, he's been playing really well.

Juice looked good on that TD catch but he doesn't have the size to be the go-to guy that Pitta was for Flacco.

I see what your saying, but I just looked him up, he's 6-1 248 lbs. That is almost identical to Aaron Hernandez measurables if I'm not mistaken. So, maybe he can do it. I believe he played some tight end in college as well.

This makes the most sense as Supernaw has experience with Kubiak's system.  Plus - how can you not like a guy named Supernaw????

He's actually a good run blocker but I dunno how he will do against pass rushers. Lol. I'm not sure he could block a guy like Suggs, Dumervil, and other OLB.

Yea I would say he is a guy you definately don't want as your tight end, but in certain packages could work, especially in the redzone.

After reading through some of the thread comments, I really like the idea of two options mentioned:

1) Free agent, Joel Dressen

2) Move Juszczyk to TE and bring back Vonta Leach

IR Pitta and promote Supernaw. Simple.

Then use Juice and Gilmore a lot more. Gilmore will be a good TE. Underrated in my book. He's already proven himself an adequate blocker at the NFL level. We'll see if he's there as a receiver yet. I think he needs some developing as a pass catcher but I think he's at least adequate. Better than most think.

and yes... we'll see a lot more Juice, which is good.

This guy seems to be pretty smart.

I am now thinking that Pitta is out, we really need some of these other guys to step up big.

I would love to see what Marlon Brown could do. He's got the height, let's give him a shot at TE.

It You had just said lets get Marlon more reps within the offense I would agree with you, but he can't play TE he doesn't have the size he's only about 210 lbs, smaller TEs have weighed as low as 230 but marlon does have strength to get through LBs consistently. How would marlon brown look lined up next to Wagner trying to chip block JJ Watt, Bret Keisel, C.Dunlap??

I was quite pleased to see Juice get used as an inline TE once pitta went down. Juice could become a versatile fb weapon like M.Reece or C.Clay ( before permanently moving to TE). We drafted Gilmore he will be playing no matter what because O.Daniels stays nicked up.

I like the idea of using Gilmore as our TE with Juszczyk as the move TE. I think it would be really effective because you could motion both to block on run plays and you could motion Juszczyk out into the slot on passing downs.

Apparently, our friends at ESPN don't think Marlon at TE is such a crazy idea. They are reporting that he is, in fact, part of the committee we will use there to replace Pitta.

ESPN I don't think said use Marlon at TE.  I think they said we could go to more three WR sets and use Marlon more. He is to small to play TE probably never played the position. Gilmore will have to step up and Juice will be targeted more to form the committee.

Pitta often was in the slot, now Marlon will play the same role, possession receiver in the slot. The difference is he will need to really put his all into blocking on the run plays that come out of those sets so people won't just guess pass when he's out there.

Edit: Crockett Gilmore is a guy I think will be huge and a fan favorite down the road. Nice blocker and has hands and I hope he's more durable than every other TE we've ever had.

You may actually be on to something here, regarding Marlon.

I hope so. Would be tough to make catches if he had two stumps. :P

I'm not seeing any discussion of Owen Daniels here.  He is the next man up and well versed in Kubiak's offense.  He IS the guy...for now.

I know that Juice is a FB/HB, but I think he could fill the roll and production of a TE - even Pitta's.  He's about 2 years experience behind Pitta, but I think he'll just get better.

Gilmore is raw.  He wasn't a play making TE in college, but he hasn't be targeted yet and is being used as a an extra blocker.  He does have the ability to be good, maybe great.  Reps will help, but he has a ways to go before he can hope to be a reliable as Pitta..

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but does anyone recall Gilmore playing FB and running the ball in preseason this year? I seem to recall Gilmore take a snap or two and rush.

Pretty sure he lined up in the backfield at one point, but he definitely didn't have a carry.

I swear I feel like I remember him in the backfield taking a hand-off from the QB (can't remember who) and running the ball.

I think it's implied that OD is the next man up. The problem is the amount of two-TE sets we've been using and how hard it'll be to replicate Pitta's output.

Like I say, I wouldn't be opposed to taking a leaf out of Belicheat's book and using more two-RB sets during the year. If you have both Taliaferro and Forsett on the field at once, that could help with blitz pickups and give LBs someone else to keep an eye on. And that's before we get into Juice being a Swiss Army back.

I agree about Gillmore not producing the same, but from memory he's looked alright on short plays and could even be useful for our RZ problems. I think his best use will be situational, as opposed to being a reliable target.

What I'm not sure about it the rigidity in which Kubiak sees Juice.  I've what a lot of college tape on him and the guy truly can do it all.  I'm use to Cam's inflexible style and wondered how much of that was on Harbs and Ozzie and why they couldn't use hybrid players the same as Belichick in New England.

If Kubiak isn't nearly as rigid we might start to see Juice in the slot rather than just on bootlegs.

Agreed! Juice could play a bigger role if. I just like the idea of him getting a bigger role in the offense.
