If Pitta has problems with the bone the socket goes into then he may very well have seen his last game. My hope is that it is a tendon that is still weak after his other dislocation. If that is the case, they can do some things to fix it. After an x-ray and MRI the doctors will know which it is. For Pitta's sake I hope it is a tendon. The other will be a very painful process it try to repair and may give him problems the rest of his life.

Aaron Wilson is saying they popped it back into place after he was sedated, but he will still have to undergo surgery this week to repair damage.  They said it looks like he has a fracture as well. :-/  I'm hoping that part is wrong.

At what point is it brought up that Tony Gonzalez should be signed :-)

You guys thought that Owen Daniels was past his prime???  Gonzalez isn't coming to Batlimore.... He's got his gig...

Done for the season might not be the worst thing in the world - if he decides to come back (again, entirely his call imo) he now has a full year to rehab and make sure he comes back properly. Too many players rush back for the sake of getting onto the playing field.

Imagine being James Ihedigbo. I know there was no intent and it sounded like the initial hit was just a routine one, but you'd still think he feels at least a bit of regret.

We're looking at free agent TEs. What's Jermichael Finley's health looking like right now? First name I though of.

I doubt it had anything specifically to do with the hit from Digs. Seems like Dennis may have just been pre disposed to a hip dislocation and any hit could have caused it.  As has been said, it's a very unusual and uncommon injury.

Harbs just said Pitta is done for the season :surrender:

And, I believe that is the last time we'll see Pitta on the field ever again.  Damn!   :gaah:  :th_consoling2:

Such a shame for Pitta.

It's clearly a blow to the Ravens as well. Daniels is a better replacement than what we had last year, and Juice will likely have a bigger role going forward. Neither are as good as Pitta though, and they don't have chemistry with Joe like Pitta does.

I think the Ravens have enough depth on offense to weather this, but people are going to have to step up in a big way.

Doesn't sound like it's a career ender like we feared, thank goodness. Just trying to find a positive in this.

Glad we drafted a TE in the mid rounds now. Kinda wish it was more of a receiving type but I honestly believe Gilmore is more talented than most of us think.

I think this is an option we need to explore. I would definitely welcome Finley here.

Here's what English Wikipedia has to say about his injury:

"He underwent surgery on the same hip the next day and was kicked out for the remainder of the 2014 season." One of the worst sentences I've ever seen on there.

I'm generally the optimist, but I think we've seen the last of Dennis Pitta as an NFL player. Dislocating a hip is extremely uncommon..........twice? unheard of.

Colt Lyerla. :P

He tore his pcl and mcl in August and was just arrested for DUI on September 6th. My guess would be a big fat no.

Just in case anyone wants to know...

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/dennis-pitta/

Dennis Pitta will cost us $12.8M if he retires this year or next year on our 2015 salary cap. Maybe he can be designated a post-June 1st retirement/whatever, if it comes to that, but that would be a severe amount of dead money to absorb combined with Rice's $9.5M. In case you're not good at math, that's $22.3M in dead money for two players--potentially. That's a TON of dead money.

I don't understand why there isn't some sort of injury/retirement clause in every players contract to prevent these large amounts of dead money on a team's cap. The Ray Rice dead money makes sense for us to have to pay but having to eat that much dead money on a severe injury is just cruel and unusual punishment for a team. Pitta should still get his guaranteed money that we agreed to but it shouldn't count against the cap if he has to retire due to injury.

You have to wonder whether Dennis was brought back too early last year.

I'm sure they checked the hip but maybe there was still a issue that wasn't seen .

Maybe a very small hairline type issue that wasn't detected.

I'm sure some people do have those clauses, but I'm betting most of them don't.

Considering the NFL is in an extreme power position on just about every contract they give out these days, they generally have to concede something. It would be tough to convince players in a sport that involves physical altercations on a play-by-play basis to sign a contract saying they don't get paid if they are injured.

Agreed. Or at least let us take the hit this year instead of spreading it out. Same goes for Rice. We're not going to get any high priced replacements this year for either of those guys, so why not let us take the hit now and let us find someone to take their spot next year?

Because we can't afford to take either hit this season... we don't have that kind of cap space available. We would have to cut numerous players, and considering both instances didn't happen until the season started, its pretty much impossible at this point.

Colt Lyerla. :P

He does have first round talent lol ;)

At this point though I just hope this isn't career ending. And if he does recover, hopefully it isn't one of those situations where it is easier to dislocate it again.
