Pitta Injury Updates

I don't think we can expect Daniels to carry a full load and be the featured TE. His best days are behind him and I don't think he could still survive the grind of a full season.

I would not count-out Daniels or even Pitta yet (with this injury). Both of these guys have proven many doubters wrong before.

I just wish Dennis the best. He has the heart of a...Raven.

I don't see Pitta coming back anytime soon... but I never thought Manning would come back after having a whole year off, and look at him now.  If anyone can recover it will be Pitta.

Didnt even look at bad besides the fact that he couldn't get up. Could have just been a hamstring cramp.

I think it looked really bad, because on replays you can see that his entire leg went totally limp...

That's a really tough situation. Pitta is obviously a good athlete and person but I don't know if it's feasible to come back from two dislocated hips in two years. I'm hoping him the best.

What's more, he'll be 30 years old. Right around the age when players begin to decline, even ones without his severe injury history. And this seems to be a chronic injury which just makes it even worse. It just does not look good at all for him to resume his NFL career.

Really sucks, it didn't look good considering there was no contact, just have to pray for Pitta's health.. hate seeing him go down like that after his road to recovery last year.

From a football perspective, I'm sure many people have said this but it's time for Juice to get an increased role on the offense in light of the Pitta injury. I'm also thankful we have Owen Daniels now more than ever, last year was brutal with Dickson as our #1 TE.. Daniels should replace Pitta's production quite well in the passing game as the #1 TE. Hopefully Juice get's more looks lining up as a TE and maybe the rook Gilmore get's some traction in the passing game with the added opportunities.

I wish Pitta the best of luck he was a good player and a class act.

Next man up though! Juice, Daniels, and Crockett are going to have to carry the load..

I don't hear any mention of this but we need to get Deonte Thompson back before he clears waivers and ends up on another team. I think hes a valuable special teamer and speedster to lose?

Just in case anyone wants to know...

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/dennis-pitta/

Dennis Pitta will cost us $12.8M if he retires this year or next year on our 2015 salary cap. Maybe he can be designated a post-June 1st retirement/whatever, if it comes to that, but that would be a severe amount of dead money to absorb combined with Rice's $9.5M. In case you're not good at math, that's $22.3M in dead money for two players--potentially. That's a TON of dead money.

I'd assume we'd politely ask him not to retire and keep him on the IR/NFI for a couple of years until it wouldn't be a devastating amount of cap that we'd need to absorb.

Yeah. That would be a ridiculous hit to absorb. His 2014 and 2015 base salaries are both guaranteed. That's $1M this year and $4M next year that are fully guaranteed, so you save no money really even if you cut him next year as a post-June 1st designation.

Also, I wonder if he will be used as our IR/DR? What do you think? I'm wondering myself. It depends on his dx for sure. I'm hoping this speculation amounts to the best case scenario and Pitta's dx isn't as bad as it seems. I'm hoping, anyway.

It'll depend what happens in the CT scan tomorrow.  If there's a fracture, he's definitely done for the year.  If it turns out that it's just the dislocation, we may hold out hope of him returning at some point.  I think he's done for the year either way, personally.  I don't see a doctor out there that would clear him to play football this year after suffering back to back dislocated hips.

Do we know if he is still in Cleveland or is he being transferred to a hospital in Baltimore?

I agree B!  It's going to be a rough road for Pitta to attempt a come back.  This might have ended his career.  I think Bo Jackson had a similar injury when he went to plant his leg as he was running.  It ended his career!  We'll see!

Get well Pitta!

No doubt at all about that. I'm really concerned to tell you the truth and it's not that I am concerned he fractured it. I'm actually more worried about this happening again. It was a non-contact dislocation, I assume, from him quickly changing direction. If that's the case, which I suspect it is, then that means it is very likely to recur in the future. Even if there's no fracture, do you want a 30-year-old TE who could have his hip dislocate at any point on the field?

From what I read from a quick Twitter search, it seems that they want to check for a labral tear. I'm a bit confused because that's the only source where I read it, but I actually think that's the most likely issue with his hip. I'll be interested in seeing what the truth is. I'm not sure how he fractured it unless his sudden change of direction caused the fracture, or the contact with the ground.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I got a gut feeling Dennis has played his last ball ...

It's possible, but I would wait just yet. Still a lot can happen. If it's a labral tear, then we're good. If it's a fracture, that's an issue. More importantly, I'm concerned about this being an issue of a chronic dislocation of his acetabulum and femoral head.

yeah but at the age of 30 with 2 injuries like this..

seems like his career has peaked ...

Juice needs to be the one to pick up the slack. Crockett is purley a blocker at this point

torrey needs to wake up. Unless ozzie has a trade in mind to make up for the loss of pitta, we cannot afford to see torrey play like hes the one who's 35 years old (not steve smith)

I'm sure Pitta loves football but he also seems like a guy who is worldly enough to have other endeavors in life that he could pursue versus risk long term injury by returning to football.

Yeah, if we're talking about his long-term mobility (which probably won't be flash anymore as it is) then you can't really argue with him if he does hang it all up.

For now though, all we can do is wait and hope I guess.

The saddest part about Pitta's injury is that happened by his own accord. Dennis Pitta caught the football on a screen; and, then, the hip just let go. There wasn't a single Browns defender near him. What does that say about Pitta's hip in the long run?

To me, I unfortunately see Pitta hanging-up the helmet, shoulder pads and cleats and calling it a career... :(

I agree, I'd say its 50/50 at best whether he plays again.

Not saying its selfish on his part, but you have to wonder if the fact that he just signed a new contract and is guaranteed $16M between this year and next year will impact his decision. If Pitta were still under a rookie contract, I'm guessing he'd be much more motivated to attempt to comeback, given that he wasn't making that much money.

But now that he's essentially guaranteed a large sum of money, I'm not sure if the motivation/risk involved to come back will be as high.

thats the way i feel... a smart guy like pitta can probably and would probably make $16m last a life time... He has a superbowl ring. At this point he'd come back for just absolute love of the game.

I am Really hoping Pitta returns asap.  However, I cannot blame him if he decided to retire.  He has got to be thinking of the family he's starting and being able to be with them and walk with them.  I know if I were in his situation I would definitely think about it.  Heres to hoping for a full recovery whether he puts on pads again or not.

Any update or confirmation on whether there is a fracture?

Nothing yet, been checking Aaron Wilson's twitter @RavensInsider  I have to imagine he has been xrayed by now though just nothing released.
