Pitta Injury Updates

118 posts in this topic

His career is over and this without a doubt means ngata (8.5 mil),canty (2.5 mil),koch (2.5), and most likely Webb (2 mil )as well , are cut for the needed cap savings after pitta retires and rices cap hit. That's 15 million saved which will roughly cover rices 9.5 mil dead money and Pitta's 6.6 million .

I'm don't think he will call it quits. Not yet. He still has a big contract, that he probably wants to play out. He came back after the first time, played well and I believe he will again.

A lot of people also gave up on Thomas Davis from the panthers, who tore his ACL 3 times and before him no one ever came back from that. He's still playing at a high level

How fragile is his hip that he broke it by taking a hard step? This is the same type of injury that ended Bo Jackson's career.

I'm no doctor, but I'm quite sure there are differences between these injuries. Once something like a joint is injured and comes out of socket, I believe it is susceptible to reinjury more so than a repair to a torn ligament or tendon. I hope I'm wrong, but this looks really bad.

ACLs are common.  Hip injuries are not.

I wish the best for the guy and hope he recovers and comes back, but I'd rather him put his long-term health first.  If that means walking away from the game, so be it.

I'll give you that, ACLs are definitely common, but tearing it 3 times in 3 years and still coming back was a first ever. What I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't give up just yet. Until he or the doctors say it's over, then it's over. We'll just have to wait and see

I don't mean to be all gloom and doom, but I don't see how this works out well at all

I think your take is the take of reality. A hip injury of this magnitude for the second time has to bring into question whether this sis a career ending injury.

Oh I'm definitely not giving up.  I just wouldn't blame Pitta if he decided to walk away.  As much as it would suck for the team after giving him a pretty nice extension and having to eat that, Pitta's health comes first.

Your post may seem harsh but it is a very important topic that materially affects the future of the team. People won't appreciate nghata consuming 2 lineman until nghata is gone. I wouldn't be in a hurry to get rid of nghata. With webbs injury frequency he may be a possible cap casualty.

The rice and pitta unusual situations have put the team in a cap bind that they did not perceive 2 months ago.

It's a real shame if he has to hang them up but good for him for getting his money. I hope he and his family is okay. He's a great guy. One of my favorites. Definitely a shame.

Joe is going to have to restructure for sure now. And he probably won't be the only one.

Bo Jackson had his hip replaced because of lack of blood flow. Plus that was more than 20 years ago. Medicine has come a long way since then. This is a serious injury. I'm a definitely not arguing with you on that. He did something not even Bo Jackson did. He came back and played at a high level. As for how fragile his hip is...who knows

Yeah I pretty much want to cry for the guy.

I dont know if "it wasnt repaired correctly " the first time or it didnt heal properly or what, but this is nothing small nor insignificant.

I fear we just saw Pittas last game.

I am hoping and praying for the best for him.

I don't want to say his career is over before we know for sure, but if it does come to that, I just don't understand the idea that you should still take a cap hit like that when a player's career ends with an injury. Why that is treated like you've taken an active, able-bodied player and cut him is beyond me.

I actually did cry for the guy.  I can't believe he has to go through this again.  As far as this being his last game???  I don't want to think about that.  Not ready for that yet......

--Edit --  I'm a sissy in times like this.

I dont know much about how all this works, but I have herd the term "injury settlement  " a time or two.  Not exactly sure what it means or how it works, but I truly doubt the Ravens would do him dirty.

Who do we bring up? Overbay? I expect solid blocking from Gilmore though

Probably Supernaw.  They like him quite a bit, apparently.

All we can do is hope and pray that it isn't as bad as it looked on the field...

Didnt even look at bad besides the fact that he couldn't get up. Could have just been a hamstring cramp.

I don't think we need to "bring up" anyone...  We have Gilmore...  Juice will line up, and as we saw today...  we will see some Marlon Brown too

Sad day in Ravensland.......... If his hip is dislocated I doubt that he plays again.  Just a crying shame things like this happen, especially to a stand up guy like Dennis.

Prayers are with you brother.

Yes we do. Pitta can't play, someone takes his active roster spot.

Don't think dislocation is the question. More if whether its fractured or not. Dislocation is likely a given.

yeah, I hadn't read or heard anything prior to posting. I think it's most concerning that it happened without any contact. Even without a fracture, I'm afraid he's done.  just feel so sad for the guy...........

We have Gilmore and Daniels...  and then there is, like I said... Juice.  Could bring back Deonte..

I believe it's already confirmed the hip was dislocated. Waiting to hear if it's fractured or not

Correct.  He could be done for the season even if it's not fractured.

Yeah.

This is a very significant injury, add to that the fact that it happened twice, add to that he second time SEEMED to be with out just cause.

The NFL and NFLPA were trying to mitigate instances were owners were doing back-door deals with severely players and their agents to trade for more cap space and/or release for more cap space. That practice was getting-out of hand and was an extremely unfair business practice.
