Pitta Injury Updates

Yeah, heard that. Hope is wasn't just player talk and Pitta was sincere. This couldn't be happening to a more deserving person...meaning deserving of being on the field and playing.

I'm a practicing internet doctor, and I'm going to diagnose with a hip flexor strain.

Article says "Patients with this condition usually feel a sudden sharp pain or pulling sensation in the front of the hip or groin at the time of injury. In minor strains, pain may be minimal allowing continued activity. In more severe cases, patients may experience severe pain, muscle spasm, weakness and an inability to continue the activity. Patients with a severe hip flexor strain may also be unable to walk without limping." Says it can be caused by "sudden contraction of the hip flexor muscles (particularly in a position of stretch). They often occur during sprinting or kicking activities." One to three week injury.

The cause is consistent with what I saw. Pitta flipped his hips pretty quick after a deep plant with his leg. He planted deep and then took a big step, almost like a lunge. Easy to see how that can cause this.

This is breaking my heart.  I loved this guy...  I loved him when we drafted him....  I can't believe this is happening to him...  :(

I pray it's not serious and he recovers fully soon. Do what's best long term!

Fortunately we have a suitable TE in Owen Daniels to fill in this year.

This sucks! I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he lights it up next year. Or maybe even later in the season

As much as it pains me to say it, he has to think about calling it a career if this injury turns out to be the same as last year.  Long-term health comes first and he should be more concerned with remaining able to walk in his later years.  I'd obviously love to see him back but I'd completely understand if he wanted to hang them up after this.

Obviously I feel bad for Pitta himself, but this is especially bad for Kubiak's system as the two tight ends are a major part of his scheme as evidenced in the game against Pittsburgh.

I don't see how he can keep playing football when he breaks his hip by taking too quick of a step.

No one hit him, no one touched him, he didn't even fall or jump, he just turned and took a step.

I don't see how he canbe relied on to play a full season even if he tries to come back.

Man...we draft Heap's replacement and only get one full season out of him?

Gillmore, hope you're ready. Wish Dennis the best. Thanks for 2012 & the SB win.

As if we didn't already know, but I'll post it anyways...

This is a potential season-ending injury for Dennis Pitta

I'm more worried about career ending. If he needs the season to heal, so be it. Take it and make sure you're 100% before coming back. I'm just worried he won't be coming back.

I'm don't think he will call it quits. Not yet. He still has a big contract, that he probably wants to play out. He came back after the first time, played well and I believe he will again.

A lot of people also gave up on Thomas Davis from the panthers, who tore his ACL 3 times and before him no one ever came back from that. He's still playing at a high level

I'm no doctor, but I'm quite sure there are differences between these injuries. Once something like a joint is injured and comes out of socket, I believe it is susceptible to reinjury more so than a repair to a torn ligament or tendon. I hope I'm wrong, but this looks really bad.

ACLs are common.  Hip injuries are not.

I wish the best for the guy and hope he recovers and comes back, but I'd rather him put his long-term health first.  If that means walking away from the game, so be it.

Its also the fact that its not as if he landed really hard on it. He caught a pass and turned up field, no contact and did that much damage. It's obviously not good for that reason, its very serious for Pitta.
