Elam is not being used right. He's an in-the-box safety who shouldn't be covering slot receivers. But credit the Browns for calling a great game on offense. Our passing D looks bad - wide open players all over the field.

The offense is pretty good though.

This is true but he didn't look good in any facet today, even when he was in-line to tackle

Defense is awful. Elam can't cover, tackle, has poor instincts, overpursues, limited football IQ, etc. Really bad and is not performing up to his draft status and he's from a high-profile school in the SEC where he was a full-time safety for a few years and should be much further along than he is. We need a better secondary coach or we need to do something about Elam because he has not improved at all.

I love Flacco and crew. Nothing bad to say about the offense. WRs still not catching balls consistently. Jones still can't catch. Torrey isn't as bad as people say but he's not a tough player. Smith Sr is great. Sucks to lose Pitta. Juszczyk looks very promising. Can't wait to see more from LT.

Agreed 100%. Also I hate it when we play 5 -7 yards off a receiver when they only need 3 -5 yards for a 1st down. Drives me nuts

The guy has no clue how to stand tall.  If he can't get his shoulder square, he's done.  He has no idea how to tackle and it keeps burning us.

Defense got worked over, specifically Elam. Was playing with no effort and was a detriment. Pees defense only works if we're getting turnovers and today we didn't do much well.

Lots of drops on the day, Torrey, Smith Sr (who atoned), and Jacoby.

Redzone and short-yardage offense needs to be better. Got stuffed on some meaningful drives. Granted, Cleveland is a good defense but we need to make our own plays.

We need to address the back end, and find a DC that knows how to pressure the QB. As for Elam he can get you a great pair of shoes!! Lol

When was this????

On 3rd and short in Browns territory late in the game, Joe threw it to Torrey who went up and had his hands on the ball (near sideline), but Gilbert grabbed his facemask, blinding him and drawing a few easy flags. It set up 1st and goal.

Does Torrey not want to be on this team anymore? Because he plays like it.

He has been open a lot but has no chemistry with joe. Not Torrey's fault.

Plus the unforgivable mistake of not touching a player who is down on his own. He's been starting for an entire year

All I noticed was a few plays downfield that he got beat in coverage, I didn't see missed tackles. But maybe I just missed them.

Pees had an absolutely horrid gameplan. I don't have a problem with zone coverage, but I could count the number of snaps we played in man on one hand.

Kubiak had an eh game. Went away from the run when it was working, and his routes were eh. Calling screens on 2nd and 16 was a poor call.

Defense needs to learn to tackle, mainly the secondary.

Dlinemen weren't playing smart this game. Lot of blown gaps and stuff like that.

Elam had a bad game.

WRs made plays when it mattered, but 'dropped the ball' too much.

Oline looked except Monroe, who looked a lot like Mike Oher today. Zuttah had some putrid moments.

Spags is the secondary's coach. He made good Defense look horrible, when he coached the Rams, and Saints.

No pass rush like usual, corners were bad (except for Jimmy) and Elam....ugh just ugly how he played. What happend to Torrey?

Running game was rolling again (Taliaferro is a beast), nice block by Asa, Smitty was ballin' again and Juice made some great blocks and catches. I liked how he saw that Flacco was in trouble and he broke of his route

I hope that Pitta and Canty get well soon. It was hard to look when those two went down :(

Yes it is. Joe has chemistry with everyone on the starting offense EXCEPT Torrey. He has more chemistry with Marlon Brown.

Torrey needs to start playing better to earn Joe's trust. It's clear that Joe doesn't trust Torrey anymore.

The defense was bad. There is no denying that.

However, they got the stops at the end of the game when we needed them most. That is something this team has not done in a long time it feels like.

He looked lost in every facet of the game today.  You can still see flashes when we use him as an in-the-box type of safety but you simply cannot rely on him as the last line of defense with his poor coverage and inability to tackle in the open field.

One play that stood out to me was a Browns RB running down the sideline towards him and Elam has poor form on a 'tackle' (hard to call it that) and the RB ran for some more yards. The coverage were the biggest and ugliest mistakes.

This defense - I'm sick and tired of people saying "the offense needs to play up and help the D."  Why - because we've poured the majority of our draft and FA assets on D the last few years - Dumervil, Jernigan, Canty, Williams, Brown, Mosley, Smith, McPhee, Suggs, Ngata, Webb, J. Smith, Brooks, Elam.  And all it takes is one injury to the TE and our offense goes from "the best Ravens offense in history" to "oh my god, nobody besides Steve Smith is catching a single pass."  I'm being a bit overdramatic I know, but the reality of the situation is we've invested much more heavily on the defensive side of the ball than the offensive, especially recently.  That only helps if this defense can get it together and not make Brian Hoyer look like Peyton Manning out there.  I don't know if it's coaching, personnel, or both, but I expect more, a lot more, especially since every first round draft pick and all but 2 second round draft picks since 2010 have been defensive players.

What kind of coverage are we playing, "Don't"? I was hoping for a bigger impact from Webb's return, but hopefully he gets better fast. If we're gonna deactivate Brooks like this, I'm gonna need to see someone at the safety position show that they've earned the spot ahead of him. That, or we need Will Hill to be reinstated immediately. I didn't think his signing was much of a story, but it might be what saves us later in the season.

That was one of several--agree fully on Elam really needing to step up. His tackling every game this year has been similar. His coverage has been rather suspect too, he gets caught out of position way too much, Peas needs to get him comfortable with just playing within his role/assignment

Anyone concerned with how lackluster Lardarius Webb played, today? Do you guys think it was more of him fighting-off the rust/just getting back; or, was it a sign of more (bad) things to come?

Rust or lingering injury. I think the latter. Difficult to flip hips to cover with a tight lower back.

That play where Elam got beat for a long pass and the browns receiver went down. Elam just slowed down and thought the play was over. I was screaming at my TV lol, this isn't college anymore Matt you're a 2nd year player, you should know better.

Only really saw him involved in one play and, yeah, he looked slow. Need to see a bigger sample size. It's his first game in about a month and a half... Actually, did he even play in the first PS game?

He was clearly limited today so I'd give it some time before I say one way or another.  He clearly wasn't 100% out there.  He didn't move well at all.

Too much zone! Not enough press man.

The Fact of the matter is that THE BROWNS gave the STEELERS and SAINTS ALOT of trouble on the ROAD.

We just beat THE BROWNS in their house.

No shame today we beat a good team.

Both of them are to blame. 4 years together no excuses. But Torrey is getting open joe has no feel for him.

I just can't blame Joe for not having chemistry with Torrey when Joe ALREADY has more chemistry with Steve Smith and Owen Daniels, who have both only been here a few months. Yeah, it's on Torrey.
