Panthers looked like they beat themselves tonight! Penalties, turnovers and giving the Steelers a short field. I really hate the Steelers and hope to see anyone win this division but them. I think it comes down to Baltimore and Cincy for the title,

IMO, you can never count the steelers out until they are out!  I love that team's tenacity to fight until the bitter end!

I think it comes down to who is going to grovel for second place.  Cincy isn't going to even have to look back at the rest of us at this point, especially if we show up in future weeks in the same state we showed up today.

Yeah. I'm glad they never give up. It's nice. Keeps you on your toes. But that makes me think and let me ask a question here...

Let's say we didn't go for it on 4th and inches, kicked a FG, had it within 1pt and then kicked another (like we actually did) and got ahead 24-21 with like 4 or so minutes left. Now, instead of running it and chewing up clock, perhaps the Browns would have passed more and converted and drove down the field for a repeat of last week. Maybe, as crazy as it sounds, the failed 4th and inches was a brilliant call because it left us aggressive and caused the Browns to go conservative, and actually won us the game. I'm afraid that if we were ahead, we could have gone more conservative zone allowing short passes with the CB to make a quick tackle to chew up clock and to prevent big plays for TDs.

Just a thought.

I disagree. Cincinnati is very beatable. We can go there and take a win and win the division. A lot of football to be had and injuries happen to every team. We just had ours. They could see some season-ending injuries soon enough.

If we choose to fix our secondary issues, then I'd be more likely to change my mind.  But Cincy has looked absolutely dominant against all of their opponents so far.  I think they take another AFC North title this year unfortunately.  I hate to say it, but looking at the way things are now, that's the line I'd bet.

I wouldn't call it brilliant as it implies an awful lot of pre-emption, but it's an interesting thought. Our defence wasn't exactly showing signs of life until those last two drives (I wonder if we'd have switched it on anyway. It was like the exact opposite of last year).

Exactly. It only takes one or two losses from Cincy to make things interesting, and they have to face the Broncos and Patriots while we get the Dolphins and Chargers (who'll probably torch us at this rate, but still). Other teams will get a better tab on their offensive system later in the season too.

I have never met a Ravens or Bengals fan I didn't like. Both classy fans. You guys should beat Carolina next week at home from what I am seeing tonight from them.

Same goes with the Packers fans. But what happened today? Only 7 points? I was shocked tbh.

The problem is that when a team looks like trash the week before facing us, they tend to turn it on for our game. I don't know how it works and how much of it's our fault, but it's up there with death, taxes and the Browns finding ways to screw themselves in the draft.

And as with the guy above, I have a lot of respect for the Packers fans I know. Passionate people without being flogs about it (hello San Francisco).

No Offensive line. Rodgers is running for his life. We only have two good receivers in Nelson and Cobb. We lost Finley, Greg Jennings, James Jones and Driver in the past few years. Our defense has been awful the last few years too, cant get off the field on 3rd down. Losing our big run stopper Raji doesn't help at all this year as we have been getting gashed on the run.

Damn. How much blame do you give Ted Thompson and the FO?

Until we get Will Hill on the active roster, we don't have a FS on this team.

Actually we do. He's a rookie that's bound to make some mistakes but Brooks is a free safety that is used to playing on a top notch defense against good competition. And right now, I'd gladly taken him with decent instincts but occasional rookie mistake over the current crop trying to be the ones to play free safety.

I agree with you as well. Did we forget we only lost to Cincinatti by a Touchdown... and they scored on an AJ green bomb. If we have any semblance of a secondary in that second game against Cincinnati well have a great chance. Lets hope our offense continues to grow under Kubiak and if Webb can continue to get healthier, by the time that game comes Cinci may not be as far ahead of us as we think. Now i do have a question, I wasn't able to watch a lot of the Cinci game, but why was Jimmy Smith not on Green on that play? And why doesn't Jimmy Smith follow the best outside WR on the other team every play.

Im not a football guru but Ive never understood the idea of right and left corners. Unless you have a 25 year old champ bailey and a 2009 Darrel Revis where it doesn't matter, why would Jimmy not always cover the other team's number 1 (again assuming its an outside receiver, i know he could have trouble with a smaller quicker guy like antonio brown). Is this consistent in the NFL or a Pees thing? I just feel like by letting Jimmy go press man coverage, our best man vs your best man, and let Jimmy battle until he proves he cant do it. This could help the secondary by shading the safeties to the other side of the field and close of space, especially with Pees conservative coverages for whatever reason

He tries to build the team through the draft all the time. We need to go after guys in free agency. Thompson never does that. You guys know from past experience that our defense is bad when you have played us.

Cincy hasn't faced a real foe yet. Let's face it - we played perhaps the worst team first half I've seen in quite a few years and still had a chance to tie that game. Ridiculous. And that is us not playing up to our potential.

Cincy is very beatable. Their schedule is about to show just how beatable.

They still have to play NE, Denver, Colts and Saints. I could see them losing all of those except possibly the Saints game.

Problem # 1: Bengals beat the Patriots 13-6 last season.

Problem # 2: Bengals beat the Colts 42-28 last season.

Problem # 3: Last game against the Saints, in 2010. This of course was the pre-Dalton era and before their defense became really good. Saints haven't seen their new defense and Brees was held under 300 yards passing by Cleveland last week.

The Bengals can be beat, yes it can happen. Not saying they aren't beatable but we are going to have a tough shot at winning the division if the Bengals keep up their level of play and we continue playing down to our opponents and barely winning. We need to do to Carolina what we did to Pittsburgh, and do that the rest of the season.

Actually as long as we're winning, it isn't so tough. Doesn't really matter if we win by 1 or 25.

We aren't that team. We rarely steam roll anyone. Maybe one or two games a year. The year we won the SB I think we only did it to the Giants. (without looking. Might have been another game)That just isn't who we are.Don't know if we're not motivated or what but the Bengals aren't all that. On one of our worst days, they barely won. Last week, the Falcons were garbage, this week they couldn't be stopped. Talking about stats from last year is insane.

The Raiders, which to be fair is more an exception than a rule. Every time your franchise record comes against the Raiders, there should be an asterisk by it.

I agree with the rest of your post though: we don't tend to thrash anyone but I'd back us to stick out the tough moments in the big games over pretty much anyone in the league. And give it time before people start figuring the Bengals out - it could even be us halfway through the season.

I was watching the game last night and Cam Newton was not very accurate on long passes. I worry about him beating us with his feet because our defense is missing a lot of tackles and he can certainly run for first downs and extend drives. I don't know if it is a case of over pursuing and not wrapping up but we need to work on it. The way Bell was running all over Carolina, I hope Lorenzo and Forsett can do the same thing this Sunday.

Cam Newton is really beat atm. If we can hit him hard he will have to take a seat.

I'd rather play against Cam then Derek Anderson really. That being said, Panthers run defense was pathetic last night and their o-line, especially the LT, is trash. Big win at home coming up for the most resilient team in the league.

Cam is really banged up and was hobbling towards the end of the game. You shouldn't be seeing him escape with this o-line.

Jimmy Smith needs to find a leash and hook it to Kelvin Benjamin's pants, want him following him on the field because Asa is like 5'10 and Chykie gets touched regardless. I think Smith matches Benjamin really well.

I absolutely love that matchup too. If Pee's allows Jimmy to just shadow KB all day in man coverage Jimmy will dominate that matchup. If that were the case, and considering their RB's are all banged up and so is Cam we will be just fine.
