Tank 92

Never mind the bollocks, let's talk about Smith Sr.

I think all can agree that Smitty is an important part of this "new look" offense. One can only imagine the career this guy would have had if on a perennial contender. For me, he is probably the most exciting, and potentially the most productive receiver the Ravens have ever had. But how much does he have left in the tank? Will he remain healthy for the season? Can he hang here for more than a year or two?

He's 2nd in the NFL in targets with 25. I'd love to know where he ranks on 3rd downs and in the redzone.

Through 2 weeks, he's been more than advertised IMO...Straight up beast and exactly what we missed on O last season.

Dude is playing like someone just threw a bunch of gasoline on the bonfire already inside this guy. Agent 89 is going to be a huge part of this team. He brings that im ready to fight a dude for every inch attitude we missed.

The thing I like about Smith Sr. Is unlike Boldin , he gains yards after the catch .

Boldin had great hands but he went down pretty quick .

Smith is almost impossible to bring down for a few seconds after te catch is made. He plays like a man possessed. We have never had the attitude on O that he and Daniels showed last Thursday. Imagine how mighty we would have been with that attitude on O matching the Ds attitude in the mid 2000s. Especially 06

Smith has played really well but I think it strongly important for our other receivers to step their game because Smith is still 35 years old . His stamina may be high right now but as the season moves forward his age may get to him which why it's best we keep him fresh and keep from relying on him so heavily. We do have other playmaking receivers and they need to start showing it

He's quickly becoming one of my favorite current Ravens, and I just love the impact he's had on the team already. He brings a fire and a passion we've missed since Ray retired.

He is already my second favorite all time Raven. You can tell its his attitude and intensity that leads to his results.

Wow he beat out Ed Reed or Ray Lewis(Assuming Ed Reed)? That's wild.

My only concern with Steve Smith is that Kubiak's offense has been known to predominantly feature the #1 WR, with the TEs, RBs, and even the FB as supplemental options in the passing game before the #2 and #3 WRs. Factor in the running game as half of the game plan and you don't leave a lot of touches for those other WRs. Given that, Smith's ability to catch the ball, and his propensity to demand that his QB look his way, I worry that late in the season we might slow down on offense like Kubiak's Texans did as teams adjust to game film.

I have confidence in Torrey and the rest of the supporting cast though, it will be up to them to get open and command respect from Joe.

Agreed, Smith has been awesome to watch.  Some of those redzone possessions it became clear Flacco was a bit locked in, though.  We've seen some trouble with doing that with Pitta in the past.  Smith Sr. is great but we've got to get Torrey and would be nice to get Marlon and Juzcyzk involved in the passing game.  We will.  Owen Daniels and Steve have benefited from single coverage while Torrey and Pitta have seen a lot of bracket coverage.  That'll change and defenses will have to play it more honest, giving Torrey and Dennis more opportunities, particularly if the o-line keeps playing at this high level.

I loved watching them get hyped after making a play!

Great point!  That is why we have those other young bucks at WR.  We just need to utilize them more in games to come.

I watched this guy every Sunday, as I lived in East TN from 1997-2013... this guy is a beast, and someone who will give you his all 110% of the time. Defenders hate when he gets the ball in his hands, because he's like a raging bull when he is running. To me, him performing on a Pro Bowl level is not a surprise, because I was able to see him play each and every Sunday. The guy takes care of his body better than anyone else, other than the way Ray Lewis took care of his. I actually modeled my game off of him whenever I played football.

Initially, I wasn't expecting much from Smith Sr. after what we saw with Dallas Clark and Brandon Stokley last year.   They were 34 and 37 year old players with high millage.  However 89 takes care of his body so well, if you didn't know who he was you would never guess he was 35.  The guy plays at such a high level all the time.  I am happy that Flacco has a reliable target and Smith has a reliable quarterback.  Makes for a great combo.

How soon everyone forgets Michael Jackson...

(love the Sex Pistols reference)

Great talent, strange cosmetic procedures..........haha

Yeah, Jackson had two outstanding years that helped make the Ravens exciting to watch early on. But in just two games, Smitty is bringing back the fire and intensity to this team that was sorely missed last year and has quickly become another go to guy for Joe. The big question is at 35, how long can he keep it up. It's not unheard of for a WR to play into their late 30s but with his physical style, can Smitty do that?

He can..He's one of the best of all time for that reason. Could you imagine if he had a great QB in his prime? He would be up there with jerry rice

there i said it.

He was that good and still is awesome.

Steve Smith Sr. proves that when you still have that deep passion and fire burning within, a select few can overcome age. He is one of those rare guys that defies the odds.

I watched wired and it was so fun to watch him get the yards after the catch.  Another huge pick up is Owen Daniels......the TD's were pretty simple, but he held the ball on a couple while taking a lick and moved the chains......he is a stud!  On the video, Ngata says "when he was with Houston, he killed us!".....glad he is wearing purple this year!

When he was released from the Texans, I desperately wanted him despite his age and injuries.  He knows the system and can take a hit.

Smith is the best WR flacco has ever played with and flacco is the best QB smith has ever had. Just as I predicted smith is flaccos favorite target and they are going to have a very good year together.

Not sure about the Rice comparison, but it would sure be nice if Smitty played as long as him and stayed a Raven.

That's something I always wondered. What if Steve Smith had a great QB his entire career?

I mean a great QB can make a reciever. I know most of us don't like Cry Brady, but he made his recievers look better then they actually were and a great reciever can make a QB. Just look at Megatron with Stafford, Andre Johnson with Shaub, Randy Moss and Culpepper and Smitty and Delhomme, but what if you combine those two? You get Rice and Montana/Young, so you're not that far off

He's a number 1 receiver - he's not the elite receiver he was 4-5 years ago, but even diminished he's still a number 1.  When people around here debate what is or isn't a number 1 receiver, you're watching one in Steve Smith at age 35.  He does 3 things which I think define a number 1 receiver: makes all the catches, whether easy or tough, is able to separate himself from the corners covering him, and makes plays after the catch.  We've had guys in Mase and Boldin who could consistently do the first 2, have a guy now in Torrey who can do the third when he has separation, but we've never had a guy who could do all three until Steve.

Yes!! Only tweak I would make is that Boldin and Mase did 1 and 3. I Mase's case, he was amazing at it that comeback route but Steve is the only one of the three that can consistently do #2 on all the routes.
