Ray Lewis statue- thoughts

9 posts in this topic

I am unsure if this has been started elsewhere.  But I was curious to thoughts on the statue for those who have seen it in person.

I looked at it after the Steelers game.

It seemed to me to be a bit gargoyle-like, for lack of better phrasing.  lol

Johnny U's statue seems almost timeless in comparison to Ray's which looks a bit freakish.

I don't quite remember.  But was the pose voted upon by fans?  Or was it chosen by the artist?

I watched the ceremony on this site (home away from home!). I think the artist was trying to capture the spirit and fire that Ray brought not just to the team, but all Raven fans everywhere. Dancing in football was just not a part of the game in that era, (Billy "White Shoes" Johnson of the Houston Oilers is the first I can remember doing it.) John would never have done that anyway, I had the honor to meet him in 1996, I was awed still am! I just don't know what other way you could capture Ray than the way it was. Some how and I agree it kind of looks odd, but in more ways it's perfect! Just my thoughts.

Man that statue is AWESOME!!  I don't know about the "gargoyle-like" thing you speak of!  It's new in comparison to the old Johnny U statue.  It's fresh!  And that classic pose of Ray's is fierce!  I took numerous picks with it this past week when I attended both Ravens games.

I honestly didn't know how they could do anything else for the statue in terms of the dance pose. I have not seen it in person but that dance is the first pose I think of when I think of Lewis

I see where you guys are coming from.  When thinking of Ray, the first image is certainly of him rubbing the grass on his jersey and coming out to fireworks!
