Yeah, but would we really carry 7 Ss? I don't think that makes a lot of sense. I would probably part with Levine. He has versatility, but I doubt he would ever make it on the field with our starting unit at S or CB. His production on STs can be replaced. Let Brooks get Levine's reps, maybe accelerate his development.

Speaking of which, whatever happened to resigning Cox after week 1?

7 safties but only 4 corners.  The reason being that our safeties can play corners.   11 secondary players is not unreasonable, especially if Asa will mis significant time.

Oh, I completely understand depth, but against the steelers Elam was playing nickel with Miles coming in at safety. You can see how the top of the depth chart is laid out. We don't know how the bottom half of the depth chart is, but I would imagine in terms of defense, Brooks would be a head of Levine. Maybe not on STs, but I would be willing to sacrifice a little in terms if depth to get a player like Hill a spot. Remember, if we cut a S, we're still adding one, in this case a better one, then Levine.

Either way were talking about a player (7th WR or 7th S) that most likely isn't going to be active on gameday if we decide to keep Hill.

Are you ridiculous dude?  This isn't even a debate Hill is a top 10 safety.  We will make room for him.

What are you talking about? Have you even read the thread? The thread is about making room for Hill. Someone suggested we cut a WR instead of someone from the secondary. I am supporting making room for Hill by cutting Levine. That in no way takes away a member of our secondary. It replaces Levine with a better player. How am I the one being ridiculous?

Our safeties can play corner because we schematically use an extra safety as a dimeback, instead of a corner like most other teams, for run stopping purposes.

@gregaiello: We have not yet reached an agreement with the union on revisions to our drug programs. There continue to be significant unresolved issues.

Will hill could be a major bust. Just see how he actually plays the game, then let's give him the ATTN that due.

The troubled kid is getting way too much hype than he deserves.

IMO cut a WR. We have 4 riding the bench as we speak. 4-5 safties play on ST has anyone seen Aiken? Thompson was again a healthy scratch. Kinda odd coach is doing that to him, should Campanaro be the healthy scratch? He is the rookie n Thompson is the more polished player. Same goes for Brown. Idk how u scratch them for rookies. Let the rookies ride the bench n watch, seems disrespectful. Especially when we all know who's better.

It's critical we get Hill on the field asapington & sons. If he's even 75% of what he flashed for the Giants last season he'll shore up the Free Safety position for us. Given he's 24, is only guilty of being a little too fond of pot (honestly it boggles my mind that we let these dudes get hooked on morphine and cortizone but ban them for grass), I am confident he is going to be a strong addition for us. If nothing else I think he will really push Terrence Brooks to develop into a well rounded safety if he wants any playing time.

In my opinion, with Webb back the FS position is the only weak link in our defense so if Hill can step in and strengthen us there this defense could be a total (and highly unanticipated) nightmare all season long.

We will probably cut Hurst and put him on the PS. The OLine is playing really good right now, and he probably wouldn't get to see much playing time anyway.

I have to disagree there isn't a spot for him. With the new PS rules, a player like Trawick or even Brookes would be able to move into a PS squad role and allow a roster spot for him. Let's not forget also we only have 4corners on the roster and Elam played slot CB during the Steelers game with Webb out and Jackson going down with a concussion. Stewart moved to strong safety and Miles took over FS. You can't convince me Jeromy Miles is better than Will Hill. Pees gushed about Hill saying he was by far better than what we had presently on the squad and his limited preseason activity had to do with his suspension and not playing the first six games than skillset. Hill we be an incredible addition to the secondary and with Webb, Smith, Elam and Hill we have a top rated secondary in the league.

Im more worried about jpsh gordan coming back

Don't worry to much, he's gonna still serve 10 games with the possiblity of 12 if he gets convicted of DUI

Very doubtful, he's listened as Monroe's first backup and we are already thin on o-line. Probably cut a different saftey

I am hearing his ban will be cut to two games.

Will his served time already count? because that means he could play next week

i think our current FS is still holding back elam, elam has looked very good so far this year, but without a single high safety then elam will still be limited, hes an attacker but we have used him in deep zones and i have also seen him on some press man in this slot against pitt, until we get that rangy single deep guy(like will hill) i think elam is out there and still not being utilized to his best ability, darian stewart is alot like elam himself, he would make a hell of a 3rd safety and is a swing guy for depth at both safety spots, but elam is our SS, and will hill will likely be our FS when he returns, and you will suddenly see our defense change drastically i think.

Apparently the deal is supposed to be finalized tomorrow morning.  They also said that Sunday night so it remains to be seen if that will actually happen.

1. He already pled guilty to DWI and has been sentenced to probation

2. Based on every report I'm reading, it will not impact or increase his suspension one bit. He will be fined for it.

Ravens fans should fully expect him back when his current suspension is over.

If Brooks goes on the PS, he can be picked up by other teams, as he needs to clear waivers to make it to the PS.

I would bet a decent amount of money that somebody claims him. He's not a likely option for the PS in my opinion.

The depth chart can be deceiving though. I would bet a large sum of money that if Monroe gets injured, Hurst WON'T be the LT that comes in for him.

I would bet that Rick Wagner is essentially the backup LT. If Monroe got hurt, they'd likely kick Wagner to the left side and either slide somebody into RT, or move somebody like KO outside and put in a backup guard.

We did this exact thing in 2012, when McKinnie was too fat and out of shape to play. Oher shifted from RT to LT, we moved Osemele to RT, and we started Gurode (I believe) at LG. Hurst might be listed as the "backup" on the depth chart, but I still don't think we put an UDFA rookie at LT unless we had absolutely no other options.

Correct, he obviously won't be playing Sunday, so we will only play him once.

Needless to say though... the Browns become a whole lot better team when he comes back. The ability to play 6 games as opposed to none could very well be important for the Browns.
