Talk about the Steelers game

265 posts in this topic

Rare Steelers blowout.

Need to be better in the redzone.

Owen Daniels screwed me in fantasy.

Impressive for the Smith-Brown-Levine combo to hold a potent Steelers O to six.

In the battle of the Smith contracts Jimmy is the clear priority, he's blossoming into a legit top-tier corner. Torrey has disappeared.

Kudos to Flacco, the coaching staff, and everyone really for being prepared for this game.

Season's over. We're going 1-18. Harbs was smiling too much. Team lacks grit. Fire OJ Brigance.

I hope it's more of a "and we haven't even opened up Torrey" than a "it looks like we're not getting much out of Torrey".

We'll see when they re-air. If he was given play calls to make something happen and he couldn't get open, thats on him. While we can survive with Steve and our TE's for now, we will need to address WR soon.

Love this.

Steelers-RAVENS

First Downs: 17-25

Total Plays: 57 -65

I see your point but do you think the rest of the league sees us as a "one trick pony" for obvious reasons I do not have to tell you. I think that as Joe grows into the position and utilizes his check downs more (TE's) Torrey will have more chances to show the talent he has? It just seems to me that other teams think if you shut Torrey down you shut the Ravens down. I feel we are more of a victim of poor game planning than one man not catching passes. Decoys are valuable weapons too, but than you may be right, just a thought.

My issue is with Torrey isn't not being able to separate on the 9 route...it's every other route. Yes teams scheme for Torrey, yes as Smith Sr. establishes himself more in this offense teams will start to shift coverage his way (As we saw with Ike Taylor covering him in the red zone), but Torrey doesn't read the defense. He runs the called route and if he's open (or almost open) he'll make the catch often enough that you have to respect it, but he never adjusts what he's doing to how a defender is playing him. Unless the play design, a blown coverage, or flat out speed gets him wide open, he's not beating the defense on his own. To me, that's the definition of a #2 receiver.

Based on television broadcast I would quick grade our guys as:

QB: A

HB: A-

WR: B+

TE: A

OL: A

DL: B+

OLB: A

ILB: B-

CB: B+

S: B

Obviously things change upon further review with better angles and comparison to past Raven plays and responsibilities. This is also relative to the steelers and not the rest of the leagues performance.

The fact that Smith sr is better at 35 years then Torrey tells you he will always be a no 2 reciever.

Flacco prefers the reliable veteran receiver who runs the precise route, gains seperation and is consistent. Steve is a lot of what mason was for flacco. I always suspected he would have a bigger year than many predicted.

A very good point, and I thank you. Never looked at it that way!

He moves really well out there.  Fast fluid, breaks down and drives through the ball.  Long athletic type of backer.

I feel really good about this draft.

Nice post. As a Baltimore boy now living in Illinois I was happy that this state voted for us! Earlier today as I went to CVS all the employees and customers saw my Raven "T" and hat and laughed. In good nature they asked where my Rice jersey was. They meant no dis and we all laughed but to a man and woman they were all for the Ravens! I'll take one for the team, but F.Y.I. Illinois is Raven territory, they think our team got jobbed by the media! No, I cussed R.R. as he deserved to be but made sure they all knew that one idiot, did not diminish our team, our players, my home, their friend! Wow, was I surprised! Can't wait to see them again, besides I never dis their Bears. NFC-AFC, don't mean nothing'!

We really needed this! Proud of our team, proud of my home town, always proud to be a Raven fan! "Come hell or high water." one fool does not diminish the accomplishments of so many that came before him! Ravens forever!! :disco:

I just want to say last night's game was Courtney Upshaw's best performance as a pro, easily.

That hit was naaaaasty.  Nantz couldn't even handle it after watching the replay twice lol.

So far my favorite performances of the game came from the play callers. The steelers defensive line played pretty bad, but even if they had stepped it up Kubiak was on fire with his calls and I love how balanced the offense was and how the touches and attempts were spread out. This was Kubiak's bounce back game and he benefited from the offense(and team in general) playing with a passion and intensity that just wasn't there in the first game. Smitty was back to his old sure handed, Yac gaining, ankle breaking self and Torrey opened up things for the offense in a big way and you have to give him credit for the yards he gained us on the penalty and the resulting score. Would like to see a few more screens(especially to get Juice involved) but in this particular game I think Kubiak dialed up a near perfect game with what he has to work with.

Pees takes a lot of heat around here but while the defense forced a lot more turnovers I don't think it was due to any real change in philosophy. The players just played a lot better and the offense had points on the board so Pees was allowed more leeway in dialing up different things. I liked to see the OLB based pass rush(with McPhee and Upshaw) and hope that can develop a bit better down the road to give our other guys a break and really push these guys as pass rushers. This is the second game in a row Pees has delivered a excellently called game. Inb4 the defense was hyper aggressive, I think the players were more aggressive and assertive with an eye for the ball and we didn't have to play overly conservative in pass coverage but it was all within the frame of Pees bend but don't break defense and situation football.

Excited about our coaching this year, they get a mulligan for last year so this determines just how good they are. I think their performance each game will be the biggest determining factors as both sides of the football are just "above average" and "balanced". I hope both these guys are getting job offers as HCs in the next few years, because we'll likely have another ring.

Haha thanks I'm just so frustrated with him. I went Maryland with him and we have mutual friends. I just want him to be the guy so we pay him enough to stay. At this rate I'm worried he'll only prove worth #2 dollars and be overpaid by someone else to leave (see: Dannell Ellerbe).

Like it! All things considered we would have been hard pressed to do better. Nice grades and no slack. A good, solid game, by a good solid team, top to bottom. Unless TMZ has video! Just kidding, Goodell should hire them for security! Step down Rog!!

Might be one of my favorite all time hits for the Ravens, a pity it was flagged.

Wow! Thanks for the feedback, if anyone knows you do. I love his skill set but can't claim to know him as you do! Great post, thank you, much respect and hey, living in Illinois now, welcome to the Big Ten! All my Illini friends are doggin' me, still wearing my Terp gear! Fear the turtle!! Have a great one and thanks, made my day, after the Ravens of course!

Joe and Torrey have never, at any point had chemistry whatsover. Both guys just can't adjust to each other. We have to choose to pay Jimmy Smith before Torrey (a no brainer decision) and we have to eat Rice's cap right away which might complicate our flexibility to pay both players. I hope he proves me wrong and produces starting next week because hes such a tremendous person and i want to succeed but i just dont see it happening.

Too many times Torrey just runs his route and stops and is covered. He needs to keep moving and come up with some kind of signal to get on board with joe. In the new system joe is looking short first...usually its steve

Just got in from the game tonight. Awesome! What a way to put the loss to the Bengals and the media noise about Ray Rice behind them with tonight's win. First, props to the defense. They got some sacks, only allowed 2 FG's and forced 3 turnovers! And, Joe Flacco did his thing! Great job Joe! The offense played a whole lot better than they did on Sunday. And seeing the distraught and dejected faces of steelers fans as they watched their team get beat down 26-6......PRICELESS!

@Mili

They played well on all sides of the ball tonight. There are still some issues that need to be worked on but what an improvement from Sunday!

I just see us knocking all the kinks out and just getting better. Everyone played the entire 60 mins of ball - I'm pretty proud of them all tbh. Tough loss followed by a horrendous week - and came out and did their thing.

Glad you had a good time!

My wife and I had a great time! With this beat down our boys gave the steelers, we're going to have a nice ride home back down to Chesapeake, VA this morning! Proud of our boys!

Great team effort, Ravens!  Credit to Harbs and the coaches for sharpening focus and motivating the players to work hard together given the craziness of the week.  The potential to be a dominant team is there.  Nice to see four quarters of play.  Amazing to hold the Steelers to two field goals while scoring 2 TDs and 4 FGs.  I love my team and my QB!  It will make Sunday a relaxing day to watch some games knowing we have this good win under the belt.
