Merged: Ray Rice Released and Suspended

2,774 posts in this topic

The Ravens NEED to be the first to respond to this and part ways with Rice in order to salvage our Organizations integrity (and, you know, do the right thing). There are many mistakes a player can make and still get second chances on; this is not that kind of offence.

Besides, there is no position in the NFL that is more easily replaceable than running back.

This should not be a hard decision for the front office.

I didn't need to see a video, the writing was on the wall.

Thast the problem with the court of public opinion.

Why did TMZ interlace the part of the video that shows the altercation, but leave the rest of the video progressive? The interlacing creates that blurred after image effect when there's any sort of motion and removes the smoothness of the video like it was shot on a cheap web cam. The blurriness makes it difficult to see detail, like if he slapped or punched her, or if she spit in his face when she turned to face him. Also, the stop/start motion allows the possibility that frames were lost (or purposely removed). Frames that might have shown her elbowing him in the face or chest, or throwing a punch herself after the first slap from Rice.

What is TMZ up to? I just don't trust them, at all.

It still doesn't hide his fist connecting with her face.

As bad as this is ,I feel like the Ravens organization should suspend him for the year

but not cut him.

I do believe people should be given a second chance at redeeming themselves.

He could make a comeback tour eslewhere.

You are looking for a lot from TMZ.  Its a simple elevator camera.  I don't care if she hit him or spit in his face, you don't knock a woman out cold.

I don't understand how releasing Rice helps anything. Taking away his job just punishes Janay and Rayven even more. Very few of us would lose our jobs for domestic abuse. Sitting him is an option since nearly everyone would have a hard time cheering him, but taking his paycheck and leaving him with massive amounts of time on his hands is not going to help anybody.

Its a sad world we live in that money is what binds the relationship.  If he wasn't rich, would Janay have stayed with Rice after he knocked her out?

I'm sure if I knocked out my wife, I'd be sitting in my house by myself.  My wife wouldn't care if I had a job or not.

His hand was open both times, so they appeared to be slaps. But you're right, that doesn't exonerate him from what he did. I'm just wondering if TMZ or their source did some not so creative frame removal to hide what she did to him.

But she and your child(ren) would have your money.

It's a simple elevator camera that becomes crystal clear after the altercation (when he's carrying her out of the elevator), but not during, and you don't wonder why that is?

By virtue of NFL stardom, Ray Rice is in  a position of influence and has to be held to a higher standard.... also, what professional person woudn't lose their job after assault and battery?

Kevin Byrne, Steve Bischotti, John Harbaugh, Dick Cass

I am calling you out.

You worthless pieces of [profanity deleted]! It's pretty sad that I am a huge fan of Byrne and his Friday articles and look forward to them each week.  I am shamed today to be called a Ravens fan. You knew about this all this time and you simply condoned an act like this?

What's wrong with you? Would you be calm if someone did the same to your daughter?

The lack of *any* action by the Ravens is baffling. Byrne, you are just another hypocrite doing his PR job just like a criminal lawyer does his. Have some integrity.

At a minimum, they need to impose a 4-game "conduct detrimental to the team" suspension... I refuse to believe that Harbaugh and Bisciotti saw that video before today.

Me too, I really have a hard time believing that anyone has seen this video prior to today.... If they have seen the video, the response from the Ravens and the NFL is a joke. I would love to see an unedited video just for the sake of seeing it. I have some background in this area and ive seen some pretty sheisty things happen in an editing room .

DO you have a 20 karat Kobe Bryant diamond ring to give her after you knocked her out?

If she did something to him, I don't condone her actions either. Maybe it's because of the way I was raised, but I just don't feel like it's right to hit a woman, let alone knock her out. There are other ways of dealing with a belligerent woman. And I wouldn't put it past TMZ to doctor up the video. They are the scum of the media world.

There's no defense for it. I don't like seeing someone villified for a making a horrible mistake. He has shown to be remorseful. It was a first incdent that he ever had in his life. The video is heinous and disgusting. Two games by the league is already a bad decision. I think the Ravens need to step up to the plate and give Ray a four game imposed sit out. I don't think the Ravens have to announce the suspension or sit out. When he comes back in week 3 just have him as a game day inactive for the next four games. Without the video two games was light but could be explained away by no video evidence. now that the evidence is there. It's going to be very hard for Rice to ever truly clear his name. The only way I can think of it is for him to do some national commercials for domestic violence or become a spokesperson speaking out to either battered wives or youful kids so that they don't make this mistake ever again. This is going to be a tough road ahead for Rice. I don't think we should cut him just sit him down a few games. We should allow him the opportunity to attone for this. We never will cheer this situation but we should allow him the opportunity to make it right. If he has any other blemish come up after this day then we do the outright release.

Without being incarcerated and with being in a diversionary program: almost none.

I agree, though spitting in someone's face tends to provoke a slap from them regardless of your gender or theirs. Just seems to be a natural reaction. I'm curious as to why she was initially charged. Was it for the slap to Rice's face before they entered the elevator, was it for spitting on him or maybe hitting him too. We still, even with this video, don't know the full truth yet, it seems, which is beyond annoying & frustrating.

A video so disgusting it doesn't even bring me the smug satisfaction of being right about the situation the whole time.

Beyond disgusting. There's no defending that video. He is scum, period.

I don't understand your thought here at all..Remember you saying the same thing in previous thread.

Not trying to start a heated debate or prove my thoughts are right. Honestly don't have time to discuss or read about the topic until tomorrow but just making the statement cause it's struck me weird both times

Exactly. Shock and disappointment are good descriptors. "Sick to my stomach" is also a good one.

You do that and the Free agents you covet won't come here. The players that you have here that regard the Ravens as a family will then think that's a lie and you will do more harm to your orgnization by making that move. We didn't cut or release Jamal Lewis or Ray Lewis when they had their criminal cases going on. When you have a family and somebody makes a mistake, you let them get judged by the law and then you make your decision. You always support them if you know that what they did is not their true character and made a mistake. You allow them to atone for the mistake and earn back your trust. We should sit him down a few games but I don't think we should outright release him. Stand with him but show that we don't tolerate or accept that type of behavior. He has to do more than 2 games though.

Ray needs to ride that bench all year. Then join a new team next year.

Those saying they didn't need to see the video, they just 'knew it all along' stop. Avoid jury duty at all costs.
